Course Description

In this course, we are designing and implementing cloud-native distributed architectures using the .NET Aspire framework, while integrating Generative AI capabilities (GenAI) through Microsoft-Extensions-AI and Semantic Kernel.

From microservices fundamentals to Advanced AI-driven features, you’ll gain hands-on experience architecting an E-Shop system where Catalog and Basket microservices work in tandem using PostgreSQL, Redis and RabbitMQ for messaging.

You’ll also discover how to incorporate intelligent features such as Q&A chatbots and semantic product search, powered by Ollama’s Llama/Phi models and RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) flows.

Throughout the course, you’ll learn:

Cloud-Native Distributed Architecture Essentials

  • Dive into microservices architecture, containerization, and the Twelve-Factor App methodology.

  • Learn best practices for resiliency, scalability, and DevOps workflows.

.NET Aspire Framework for Cloud-Native Development

  • Understand how .NET Aspire simplifies building distributed services.

  • Set up new projects, manage configurations, and apply cross-cutting concerns like logging and observability.

Catalog Microservice with PostgreSQL and RabbitMQ:

  • Store and manage product data in PostgreSQL.

  • Publish integration events (e.g., ProductPriceChanged) to RabbitMQ.

Basket Microservice with Redis:

  • Maintain fast, session-based data using Redis.

  • Syncs with the Catalog service when adding items to the basket.

  • Consume integration events from RabbitMQ to keep basket prices in sync.

  • Secure basket endpoints with Keycloak using JWT Bearer token.

Messaging and Event-Driven Patterns with RabbitMQ

  • Explore publish/subscribe patterns, exchanges, routing keys, and best practices for handling retries.

  • Implement robust error handling and ensure reliable event-driven communication across microservices.

Deployment, Security, and Observability

  • Containerize microservices and deploy them to Azure Container Apps using the azd up and azd down commands.

  • Follow .NET Aspire’s project structure for streamlined CI/CD workflows.

Introduction to .NET GenAI with Semantic Kernel

  • Discover the foundations of Generative AI and large language models (LLMs).

  • Integrate Microsoft-Extensions-AI and Semantic Kernel to power advanced AI functionalities.

Ollama, Llama, and Phi Models Setup

Install and configure Ollama locally or via containers.

Run Llama or Phi models for inference directly within your .NET microservices.

GenAI Use Cases in E-Shop

Customer Support Q&A Chatbot:

  • Leverage semantic kernel and prompt engineering for context-aware Q&A.

  • Integrate Ollama to deliver real-time responses to users’ questions.

Product Semantic Search with Vector Store (RAG Flow):

  • Generate embeddings for product data using Ollama’s All-MiniLM model.

  • Use a vector database to retrieve, rank, and deliver personalized product recommendations.

By the end of this course, you’ll have built a fully functional, AI-powered E-Shop platform that demonstrates the power of event-driven microservices coupled with .NET Aspire and GenAI

What was really good: All the sections up to before deployment to Azure. All the prior sections were well thought out, and it was easy to understand and appreciate the benefits of using Aspire. Thank you. What went wrong: [Disclaimer] I skipped deployment to Azure as I had assumed that if I proceeded to finish the remaining sections, I would get to deploy a "complete" solution. I was wrong. [Another very important disclaimer] DO NOT (and I repeat, DO NOT) start the final two sections (Gen AI & Semantic search) without going through his "GenAI for .NET: Build LLM Apps with OpenAI and Ollama" course. The current sections are outdated and can very easily discourage you from completing this course. I was lucky to pause and head there before coming back to finish this course. There you will also find a more complete microservices solution which he uses to deploy AI functionalities very well.

Amazing course by Mehmet Ozkaya that walks you through how to use cutting-edge technologies in your next AI Cloud-Native application. Mehmet is an amazing teacher both in explaining the theory without overdoing it and showing us how to implement it afterwards, again without overdoing it. One of the best courses I have followed recently!

I dont think anyone will deploy an application to production for enterprise workloads. Instead, If this course if based on Azure AI Foundry or any other Cloud based Gen AI platform, that could have been more usedful for the targetted audiance. Similarly, Like the authors other courses, here also the same problmen of too much , repeated theory present. Hope he will take this feedback and making corrections in future.

The course on .NET Aspire is really well structured, the main focus on all the sections is only related to how things are working with .NET Aspire Instructor explained topic very clearly with real world examples. This is going to help me a lot in my professional career. Thank you

This is a new concept. Even when you have problems in proper english pronunciation ,which makes it really problematic to follow what you are saying. Over that not sure why you are running like you have promised to complete the videos within minimum time limit. You have good knowledge on the subject but the course becomes poor if you do not work on pronunciation and proper delivery. Please speak at a bit slow pace.

Outstanding course. Learnt lot of new things. This is a must-have course if you want to integrate AI capabilities into your existing .NET Application. At the same time, it gives a very detailed look into .NET Aspire that Microsoft is really pushing for developing microservices. Great Job Mehmet and look forward to more courses from you

This was an excellent course on integrating a number of technologies via Aspire to develop micros services and implement Gen AI. Material was well organized and well presented in a manner that was easy to follow. It could be useful in the future to have material on embedding vector data into a persistent database, perhaps SQL Server 2025 or qdrant. Also, the technology is fast moving so changes to newer versions of nuget packages can break the existing code. Just something to be aware of.

This course was truly amazing! I especially enjoyed the sections on Ollama and Vector Databases—they were incredibly insightful and well-explained. Looking forward to seeing more content like this in the future!

By Prasad Senadheera on 5/15/2025

This course provides a solid foundation for understanding the capabilities of Aspire and, more importantly, demonstrates how Microsoft.Extensions.AI can be integrated into modern .NET applications. The hands-on section on semantic search is especially useful, showing how it can improve search and retrieval features in your projects. Note: The Microsoft AI-related packages are still evolving. Frequent breaking changes between versions can make them tricky to adopt and maintain. More stability and clearer versioning would definitely help.

By Ain Mor on 4/15/2025

The course was basic and easy to follow along, making it ideal for beginners. However, I wish there had been more hands-on web development content to practice what was taught. Overall, it's a good introduction to .NET Aspire and GenAI for those starting out.
