Practical Music Theory 101 For Guitar (Udemy.com)

I started learning guitar year ago,and went through 4 private teachers who charged 50$ and hour,2 schools and 2 online courses. The problem was that they all want you to play guitar, without first understanding the instrument. I find Henry's cours very structured, simple to understand and intuitive, I've seen some 2 stars reviews of this cours saying the lessons are good,I just can't learn guitar, this is not fair to rate the cours, because it is not the problem, the problem is the individual. This cours is 100% gor beginners and if you do uour do diligence you will 100% succeed.

Lot of information presented.. I want to play guitar just for myself, so a lot to take in. But I am glad I took this course because now I have an understanding of the structure of chord shapes, the difference in playing my more familiar country to blues and jazz. I now appreciate the harmony and the skills of skilled musicians. And I can also apply some of what has been taught in this course to the more elementary skill I want to achieve. Better to understand the structure behind chords than just trying to remember them.

Really eye-opening, it's ocassionally a bit difficult to follow, rewinding the video is almost mandatory, but it's very well explained and you get a real understanding of Scales, how to build Chords out of them and how to know which Chords harmonize. Also it is good that Henry encourages to extensively practice first yourself before continuing the course, because there is a lot to take in and a lot of information condensed in a 5 hour course. Highly recommended if you want to get deep into guitar play. For total beginners his Basic course is more suitable, this one might overwhelm you very quick.

I watched many courses before, but using triads and triad islands to get to know the fretboard and building previously hard-to-understand chords was a revelation. Of course, memorization is involved until this whole knowledge becomes part of a "finger memory," but at least the lessons are part of a progressively complex system. I learned more here than in many other courses combined.

This course really helped me to understand the relationships among the harmonized scale, triads, chord variations, and inversions. It has also given me cause to look at chords and the fretboard in an entirely new and informed perspective - no more playing chords by rote memorization. Looking forward to using this information to expand my knowledge of music theory for guitar. Thanks!

I've been playing the guitar for close to a decade now, but never bothered to learn the theory behind all of it. Thanks to Henry now I feel I understand the things I play much more deeply. It has opened up a lot of ideas for me, and has demystified the guitar fretboard. Henry is a great teacher. He has the ability to put himself in his students' shoes, and help you figure out your problems before you even know it! Great course, highly recommended for all guitar players. Thank you Henry! :)

Henry is such a down to earth and a honest teacher. He knows really well the struggle it takes to learn the theory and to put that in to action. I have enrolled for several courses, guitar and non guitar ones on Udemy and this is the first one i ever completed. Henry has explained the course very well. I realised watching a lecture multiple times, pausing it /trying/ copying Henry really helps understand what he is trying to explain. First time ever in a decade I have been able to sustain my interest in playing guitar for this long. waiting for more courses from Henry. Thank you Henry. You are a really good teacher.

complete beginner- like sect 1, 2. Henry explained really well. Only mid of sect 3 and whole sect 4 & 5 i sort of lost. need to slow down/ break down into details of concept-maybe variations could be introduce later once the basics are understood. Overall - good course for complete novice to get idea what music theory is and chords. Learn a lot from sect 1 & 2. Thanks Henry.

It's a great course The first part really got me thinking about intervals and such. I feel like some more time could have been used up on suspended chords, 7th chords, and other added notes. It's there but I felt I needed to go back a couple of times. Another suggestion would be to spend some time on different scale shapes (root note on different strings) as I feel it helps with playing leads while strumming chords and leading up to a chord if that makes sense.

Very good course. I've only been playing for 8 months and I this course taught me an amazing amount of guitar theory (chord construction, triads, scales etc). It was definitely not always easy but Henry explained it as well as he possibly could. I'll have to refer back to the course as I'm progressing with my guitar playing and I'm sure that is when things will start sticking!
