Course Description

SwiftUI was introduced at WWDC 2019 and it has dramatically changed the future direction of iOS, macOS and watchOS applications. SwiftUI provides an easy to use declarative syntax, which allows you to quickly create high performance apps with less code.

In this course, you will learn how to implement macOS applications using SwiftUI framework. This course is a project based course, which means you will learn by building real world applications.

Let’s check out the contents of the course.

Quick Tour of SwiftUI

In this section, you will get a quick tour of SwiftUI framework. This will include different Stack controls, List, Button etc.

State Management in SwiftUI

In this section, you will learn about different state management techniques available in SwiftUI. This includes @State, @Binding, @EnvironmentObject and @Environment.

Understanding MVVM Design Pattern

In this section, you will learn and understand the MVVM Design Pattern. MVVM pattern is the most common pattern used when implementing SwiftUI applications.

Reminders

In this section, you will implement the Reminders application from start to finish. You will use Core Data to persist information into the SQLite database. You will also learn how to set up one-to-many relationships in Core Data.

Maps

In this section, you will implement the Maps application. You will learn how to use NSViewRepresentable to configure and set up maps for macOS applications. You will also learn how to search for close by businesses and display them on the screen. This app also covers how to calculate directions from the user's current location to the destination and how to display an overlay on the map. You will also learn how to implement the preferences screen allowing users to change measurement units.

Stocks

In this section, you will learn how to create the Stocks application using SwiftUI. You will learn how to integrate your app with multiple Web APIs and consume JSON data. The app will also demonstrate how to display graphs and news associated with each stock. You will also learn how to create a lightweight routing engine for your application.

Who is this course for?

  • Developers interested in expanding their skills from iOS to macOS platforms.

  • For developers who want to learn about implementing large applications using SwiftUI framework.

  • Developers who want to move to the senior role by learning advanced techniques for app development.

I had so much fun in creating this course, I consider this to be one of my best courses. Thank you so much for your continuous support. Hope you enjoy the course.

Fantastic course. I'm somewhere at the 1/2 of it, but so far -- absolutely great. Never used Swift before, and never developer any MacOS apps, but followed everything without issues. Code just works. Used ChatGPT to explain me Swift idioms and that is it, wonderful. The single critical observation I have is naming. Author sometimes himself hangs for a moment to digest names of structs he created. `MyListItemViewModel` could be simple `ItemViewModel`; or `AddNewListItemView`could be `AddItemView`. Again, fantastic course, super recommended.

Very good speed in progressing thru the subject and still going into the necessary depth and details. Right pace for learning and very good coverage of relevant stuff.

I like how Mr. Azam points out how to fix certain error conditions that are likely to occur while entering his code. I found his implementation of the Core Data Model and the MVVM design pattern for the Reminders app very instructive. I consider myself an intermediate Swift programmer and I have learned much after only the first (Reminders) app in this course.

Every student has their own unique way of understanding just like every teacher has their own unique way of explaining. I didn't know I was looking for Mohammad's tutorial. Thank you.

TL;DR - A rare macOS focused course. Experienced iOS developers wanting to get their hands dirty with macOS will surely enjoy it! This is a great course for developers to learn about macOS Applications using SwiftUI. As suggested by the instructor, I would recommend having prior experience with Swift, SwiftUI and some AppKit. I appreciated the overview of MVVM, the design pattern this course follows. That said, I wish at times we would connect the code we were writing back to the MVVM principles to help understand better why we were using the approach here. I also really liked how each app explored different pieces of the SwiftUI/AppKit ecosystem (I.e., CoreData, MapKit, Preferences, popovers, etc) rather than just going over one thing many times. I wish the course explored more into CoreData when paired with CloudKit. I also felt that a couple times times the content seemed to be a lot of "watch me code and retype" versus in-depth explanation, but this was infrequent. I hope the Instructor will update this course with additional apps in the future and consider putting together a similar course for AppKit apps!

Lots of doing, no explanation. The instructor seems to know what he's talking about, but he just "does stuff", sometimes really fast, and doesn't explain what he's doing. I'm trying to follow along, but find myself simply copying code without any clue what I'm typing or why. Once or twice would be understandable, I get it, no one likes the dry stuff, everyone like to learn by doing. But there is almost no explanation of what we're being asked to type. Tried to stay with it, but it's really frustrating after a while.

A reasonably thorough introduction to Swift and macOS development. Perfect if you've got experience with other programming languages.

I would say this course is only somewhat suitable for my needs. While I've done some SwiftUI and Swift coding in the past, I've not done enough to understand everything that's going on with the CoreData and more obscure (to me) functions, classes, frameworks in use here. I will need to research more after this to update my knowledge.

Really clear explanations. I have taken several SwiftUI courses now with various instructors and this one so far gives really good explanations of why something is being used and the concepts behind it. Much better than an instructor who seems to be copying and pasting code from somewhere and not explaining what's going on.

As an experienced UNIX programmer who have not done much with GUIs (think a "C" and curses guy) this is interesting.
