HOW IS THIS COURSE DIFFERENT FROM OTHER PROOFREADING COURSES?
Proofread Like a Pro is a comprehensive course that digs deep into the skills you need to be a successful proofreader. But what really sets this course apart is its practicality.
Proofreading is a skill you learn best by doing. That’s why, in Proofread Like a Pro, you won’t simply be bombarded with information about proofreading. After almost every lecture, you’ll be presented with a proofreading exercise designed to test your understanding of the material – and hone your ability to catch typical errors.
What’s more, as a professional copywriter, Dr Clare Lynch understands time is money. That's why the most often used words in reviews of her courses are 'clear' and 'concise'. So every lecture is punchy, pacey and packed with easy-to-grasp advice. No fluff. No padding. No repetition.
WHY SHOULD YOU CHOOSE THIS INSTRUCTOR?
Dr Clare Lynch has a PhD in English literature from the University of Cambridge, where she also now teaches writing skills.
Clare is also an editor, proofreader and professional copywriter with 20+ years’ experience of helping big-name corporate clients get their messages across clearly, accurately, precisely and compellingly.
Clare is also a qualified and highly experienced corporate trainer and facilitator. So she’s been trained to communicate even the most complex, technical ideas in a way that’s memorable, entertaining and addictively engaging.
That's why, in October 2019, Udemy bestowed their Student Success award on Clare for her dedication to her Udemy students.
A WORD OF WARNING: WHAT THIS COURSE IS NOT
This course is not a superficial beginner’s guide to proofreading. It’s designed to give you the skills to proofread professionally.
Although the course covers some aspects of grammar, spelling and punctuation, it is not a comprehensive guide to the correct use of English.
To get the most out of this course, you should already have a strong grasp of English grammar, spelling and punctuation.
If that sounds like you, enrol in Proofread Like a Pro today!

So far, I feel that the course is a good match for me. Having an exercise at the beginning of the course is beneficial because I learned that I am not as spot on as I think I am. However, it is encouraging to know that even professionals make mistakes. With that being said, I trust that the course is a good start to my proofreading journey.

The course is a good match for me. I have 30+ years as a technical writer but I have been laid off and need to expand my job skills.

The course is very helpful as a revision tool for me. I know most of what is being presented, which gives me more confidence in my skills as a proof-reader. It has been years since I used proof-reading marks; I have not used them since I started using a computer. Thank you for the lessons.

I was not sure what to expect when I started this course, yet it exceeded what I wasn't expecting! As a retired senior with a strong and varied English language/communication background, I am hoping to find part time work as a proofreader. The lectures and exercises helped me to recall past knowledge and retrain dormant skills. In addition, the listings of recommended resources and sage advice is priceless! Hopefully, I'll be able to report back that I am being paid for something I love to do - read!

This is an excellent course on proofreading. My interest in the course stems from the fact that my work involves reviewing legal agreements and providing feedback to my team. I would have given it five stars if it had focused more on the types of legal agreements and scenarios relevant to my work.

I enjoyed Clare's proofreading course very much. She presented topics clearly and provided a lot of practice and resources for students. My only suggestion on future courses would be to include lectures and exercises on using word procession applications like Word, Pages, etc. with "track changes" functions.

This was the first proofreading course that I have done and it really did highlight the various areas that I do well in and others where I need to place more focus. Clare presented the content in such a lovely and engaging manner which made the course all the more enjoyable.

Very good and very clear. All useful. I am really enjoying the course. Update: I have now finished this course and went back over it again as I enjoyed it so much and found it so instructive. Thank you Dr Clare Lynch! I'm now going to do your 'Complete Punctuation' course.

I would strongly recommend this course to anyone wanting a better understanding of proofreading as a career. As a retired English (and Latin) teacher, I wondered how much I would actually learn. Well, I not only learnt a great deal, but the course also rebuilt my confidence by reassuring me that certain rules I had become unsure of, still apply no matter how often one sees them broken in print. The course is packed full of practical guidelines, useful tips and excellent resources. I loved that there were so many opportunities to practise what was being taught but I have to admit that some memos did leave me with questions around apparent ambiguities and inconsistencies. That said, a course definitely worth doing!

So far I am really enjoying this course, Clare is an excellent teacher and always holds your attention as she makes the course so interesting. I have now reached the end of the course and I was very impressed with the course. Clare really makes it a very enjoyable course and gives us excellent lectures, which are very thorough. Also, she gives us plenty of resources which really help a lot. I would definitely recommend this course to anyone who is wanting to be a proofreader.
