Course Description
Make the next step in your test automation career with REST Assured!
Testing and validating REST services in Java is harder than in dynamic languages such as Ruby and Groovy. REST Assured brings the simplicity of using these languages into the Java domain.
"REST Assured. API test automation for beginners" tutorial is created for Manual Software Testers and Test Automation Engineers that want to learn how to quickly start automating REST API tests.
Every step, from the set up of the rest assured java framework to executing your automated REST API test, is explained in detail.
"REST Assured. API test automation for beginners" course requires some Java or other OOP knowledge.
This course is designed for beginners in REST Assured, but not for beginners in test automation.
More and more Software QA positions require some test automation, and not just UI-level test automation. Selenium WebDriver experience is often not enough to land high-paying SDET and Test Automation jobs. It's important to be able to automate API tests. Using tools such as Postman or SoapUI may be good enough for manual testers, but if you want to call yourself an experienced test automation engineer, you need to know how to develop your tests using code and tools like REST Assured.
At the end of this REST Assured course, students will be able to automate Rest API tests with REST Assured using Java and TestNG framework. Execute every possible REST method and use advanced RESTAssured features. Use TestNG features for better test structure and easy framework maintenance.
And most importantly, be able to receive a promotion at the current job, or get a new job that requires Rest Assured or other test automation experience.
Don't wait, learn API automation with REST Assured!

Dmitry Shyshkin
Hi, I’m Dmitry Shyshkin, a test automation architect and educator with over 15 years of real-world experience in automation engineering.
I currently work as a Principal Software Development Engineer in Test, where I design and maintain scalable automation frameworks for complex web, API, and end-to-end systems. My background is strongly hands-on and architecture-focused—everything I teach is based on how automation works in real companies, not simplified demos.
I’ve been teaching on Udemy since 2018 and have helped 100,000+ students across 9 in-depth courses covering Selenium, RESTAssured, Java, Python, XPath, and modern test automation practices. My courses are structured, practical, and designed to give you skills you can apply immediately at work.
I continuously update my content to reflect current tools, best practices, and industry expectations, so you’re learning approaches that are relevant today—not outdated theory.
Whether you’re starting your automation journey or looking to level up professionally, my goal is to help you build confidence and strong, real-world automation skills.

Based on the knowledge of the instructor on REST Assured I would give a 5 star review. However, there was too much time spent dealing with non rest assured things. I think all the important REST Assured topics were covered, but could have been done so in less time. The bookings website used did not reduce or streamline the course either. Between the 10 minute reset and others updating it, I think removing it altogether from the course is advisable. Instead have an spring boot app that is preloaded, which allows for getting, inserting, updating, patching and deleting. The run the tests against that, this will allow for more predictable results, also some of the objects used could be used within the REST Assured tests and we need not create these pojo's. I created such an app here (the code here DOES lack the authorization stuff): https://github.com/warrengoldman/udemy-dmitry-shyshkin.git The above does NOT have all the REST Assured tests, but does have some important ones. But that shouldn't matter, I would start the course with NO tests, just have the controllers, models, service needed for it.

In genereal the course was usefull for someone who had no previous experience with rest assured. I give 4 stars because the course is based on a public api, which caused some chaos during the course. Also I think that after each topic/lesson. There should be more exercises to pracrtice what the tutor was teaching. For the future, I would suggest adding an additional section containing exercises and anwsers so we could practice more. Other than that, I think that this is in general good course for starting your rest-assured adventure.

Thanks for the course! I have a few comments. (1) As to me the speed of your speech is too low, I was watching the course with the x2 speed. (2) Please use the usual Java naming conventions for your classes and variables, like bookingId or BookingDates. (3) I would create all methods like updateBooking(), deleteBooking(), partialUpdateBooking() inside of the BaseTest - the same way as you did for the createBooking() method. Just to follow the same approach for all the methods. Again, thanks for the course!

I like the way he taught the course and with a little more practice I will be much better at it. I also like the way he was able to use Java in the course, you can get through the course even if you don't know anything about Java and if you decide to take Java you will have some familiarity with it. If I have any Cons on the course I will say using more than one API to test to get a better understanding.

I think the content was right at the level that I needed it to be and explanations were given where needed. However, I found when examples didn't go as expected due to other people changing the API calls to be distracting during the lecture videos and sometimes I would lose the point while these were resolved. Consider a more controlled environment when creating the videos, or to create specific data when creating the videos separate from the public API.

Hi, I find most of your courses very crisp and precise. Thanks for your effort. This course could have covered, little bit of framework creation as well. This course has more of concepts which useful, a simple framework which can be implemented in end to end project would be helpful. There was only one example with BDD commands. I suggest you to add more examples with BDD in-scope. Thanks again!

If you are more experienced it test automation and/or coding, you may be lacking of some things. But it is quite good for start with RestAssured. It would be better to use dedicated test endpoints or at least endpoint that is not affected so much by others (like at the time of recording ;) ) This might confuse slow down the learning (especially for beginners).

It's an awesome course !!!! Dmitry is a great teacher his lecturer are very clear and didactic and the course at all is organized with the topics very well with the access option to any code of each lecture by github in a easy and simple way Another thing Dmitry answer very fast to many of my question (even on the day the question was asked) Definitely this is one of the best course that I take in Undemy

Another good course. However, I spent a few hours trying to figure out how to fix the Serialization and De-Serialization part. Because it keeps failing in my end. Anyway, I still need to redo this course 1-2 more times to solidify everything that I have learned. But for now, I need to create my own mini API rest assured project and use the knowledge I gain so I can understand it better.

Dmitry explains every detail from the beginning to the end, code by code! Furthermore, as I suggest, topics would be covered with a little bit more detail. Sometimes, the lesson starts with so quickly. (especially the serialization part. First, we can learn what it is (just tiny reminder information) and then starting with how we can do it. Besides that, it was a really nice course to learn! Thank you for everything!
