I wasn't even planning on doing this course but got sucked in as I started the videos. This was a FANTASTIC course and I learned a ton! Well done. Thank you! I enjoyed it much more than I expected to. With that said, there is some constructive criticism to be had. I would like to have seen an alternative way to move the character other than using physics and force, but maybe actually just moving the location of the character by adjusting it's location. The 'feeling' of using the physics and applying force to the rigidbody doesn't feel right for a platformer and it needs to be much more sensitive/dexterous and less slippery/floaty. I don't feel using the physics engine is the right choice for a platformer. During the entire course the fact that movement came to a stop when the player landed from a jump and then had to regain momentum drove me INSANE! I tried to fix it myself, but could not find the right mix of physics settings to resolve the issue. I really wish you would have addressed this bug, because it most definitely is a bug if we were releasing this commercially. But as I said before, I don't think the physics based movement is right for a platformer anyway. Your variable and method naming convention practices suck. You name some private variables starting with a capital letter and others small, you name some variables 2 letters instead of something descriptive (rb instead of rigidbody) etc. You named method endGameWithFailure() with a small letter. You really need to adopt a proper naming convention and use it. Most annoying was the bug I got at the very end of the course that I couldn't find a solution for where the loss condition ran after the win condition. Beside the small criticisms, this is an amazing course for beginners and I enjoyed it thoroughly.

This course really got me going :) It's my first course in Unity and I'm almost finished with it now. It isn't very long, but it is a really good starting point. I don't understand it all, but at least now I have worked a little bit with scripting and with Unity so I know what I am trying to learn :D

The scripting was good, and there is enough here to start building a basic platform game. But the game itself looks very basic and not really that inspiring. It would have been nice to have seen a completed game that featured more advanced mechanics. Overall, a relatively good tutorial that covers some basics of platform layout in unity.

While I'm not very far in at the moment, the instructor is a little less... animated then I would prefer. The course content however seems pretty solid. I'm hoping as I get farther into the course and deeper into the actual material the instructor gets more involved in his presentation. We shall see.

It definitely does what it says and has you making a 2D game fairly quickly. However, now I only know how to make very similar games. I was hoping for more explanation with the coding and I have another course that will hopefully supplement that a bit. What is covered, I think is done very well. The topics are focused and explained step-by-step. Anyone with a computer, who can type, will be able to complete this course with a workable game.

The course was very well done despite it's short length. It's a great way to get exposed to all the core concepts and utilities you'd need to build a 2D platformer. I especially enjoyed scenery randomization. Creating parallax backgrounds was also a lot of fun although the effect isn't 100% perfect. Hopefully, it will be addressed in future video updates.

Fantastic course. Neil's relaxed delivery style is incredibly refreshing. This course is packed with lots of excellent content. Covers the basics of Unity and C-Sharp, as well as lots of great high-end tips that show he is a veteran. I particularly enjoyed the info about storing persistent data across scenes. Thanks Neil!

This was a pretty good course for my first experience in Unity-2D! Lots of basics using examples from a simple platform game. I took this course because I was impressed with the instructor's other course on IOS SpriteKit but there were far more details and extras in that course. The same great teaching technique but without the flexibility and depth. I believe expanding on Scripting would help. I would also suggest a session on a simple 3D build and this course would have been all I needed. Maybe he will add that later. He did in his other course.

One of the BEST COURSE that I never seen..My first impression was bad at the beginning but by following the course until the end I am totally satisfied and hope the instructor will made a new unity course , this time including some others features like background music, locking level systemI, monetizing the game, deep UI... I think this is best best course because the author try to teach with simplicity, the basic of unity and even video game theory. The coding is at the minimum , that is very good for me. It is good for a beginner who could learn fast unity but better for someone like me who have already a little background but not professionals and not enought self confident on making a game:I hope this will help me a lot! Thanks a lot Neil

I first discovered how great Neil was as a teacher in a previous course. He is a very knowledgeable programmer who integrates diagrams and theory into a very hands on approach to learning to program. This is an excellent course for those starting with Unity and even those who have being dabbling in Unity for sometime. This is a must for your Udemy course collection. Thanks!
