Course Description

Knowledge of JavaScript is absolutely essential for a developer in 2018.  You’ve arrived on this page, so you are probably aware of that.

The fact is that JavaScript is a rapidly evolving technology that has grown from a browser language meant only to assist webpages, to the backbone for emerging technologies such as Angular, React and JQuery.

If you want to get into these exciting technologies then you need core JavaScript skills.

Charles E. Brown, the instructor in this course starts at the very beginning, and no previous programming experience is required or assumed. His comprehensive JavaScript tutorial videos will take you step by step from JavaScript basics to some of the most advanced concepts.

What's included in the course.

After learning about the necessary tools, and installing them, you’ll progress to the fundamentals of programming within the JavaScript environment.

Object Oriented JavaScript is covered in detail. You will learn how to create and use objects.

JavaScript Object Notation (JSON) is explored in detail as are classes and prototypes.

You will find out about traditional JavaScript within Html via DOM and move to communicating with other programs to receive data and learn how to store that data.

Something that is not covered a lot in other Java Script courses is Promise and Fetch Frameworks, but they are covered in detail in this course.

You will be learning all of this in the ECMASCRIPT 6 (ES6) environment and also learn about the new keywords LET, and CONST and the fat arrow functions as well as the new operators and control structures.

The course will finish off with a brief introduction to new JavaScript frameworks Angular, React and Node.JS.

Is this course for you?

The course is aimed for beginners with no previous programming experience.

If any of the terms discussed on this page are unfamiliar to you, by the end of the course you will understand them well.

This is a great JavaScript course! I like the way Charles Brown explains the language. It is very easy to follow along and it's the first time that I don't feel overwhelmed about JavaScript. I tried other courses but this is the first course I actually finished. It might be shorter than the others, but it is much more understandable than the others. I enjoyed this course a lot and hope to see a new one soon taught by the instructor.

Charles E Brown presents this JavaScript material in a clearly spoken fashion. He does not rush his words trying to get a course out to the public. Instead Charles uses his clear speaking ability to develop this course presentation in a simple and clear fashion. As a beginner to coding, understanding that JavaScript is one of several very useful languages, this course has been a wonderful starting point to continue deepening my understanding of JavaScript! Thank you Charles, Bob...

This course is indeed very basic and so, it's recommended for any starters that wanted to know the very basic of javascript and combined with html in simple ways. The instructor really putting an effort on explaining of what it is, why and how it's working. The explanation is also in plain English. There's actually some updates coming in later, so the learning hours should be much longer after this review is written.

Coming from the Python course I found the majority of the course that covers using JS as a stand alone programming language to be a little redundant. I was expecting a little more than 1 section of content to involve the use of web servers and building web applications. Overall the information is delivered at a good pace, to not overload the brain, and I feel like I was able to absorb all of the concepts very well.

By Sean Bowers on 8/12/2021

The course overall was fantastic. It was well paced, the materials were presented in a clear and structured way, and the challenges helped reinforce the materials. I learned programming way back in BASIC and moved on to Logo, Pascal and C. JavaScript was never on my radar since I was more on the systems side of UNIX. As my career moved along, it became quite clear that my lack of exposure to JavaScript (and Java) were a hinderance. Lots of what I worked on required me to troubleshoot an application stack made in Java and JavaScript. I can now actually understand what I'm looking at since I'm vastly more familiar with the language syntax and design. I look forward to the 50 hours update to the course!

The course is more technical than I expected, but lectures are well presented and explained. Regarding challenges, it was little bit difficult to track them as you don't see tasks at the time , so you need to go back in video (on some other courses, they keep it on screen till you press unpause + font is bigger (this is important as I am watching course and do coding at the same time, in different windows, but on the same computer)). I was expecting more examples at the end of the course of practical usage, like to build some effects in browser/website. (We are learning to be developers, aren't we? ) All in all, 4.90/5.00 from my side.

I really enjoyed the course and how Charles broke everything down so the subject and its use cases could be understood properly. He wasn't just trying to jam a pretty app in our faces. I really feel like I was able to absorb the fundamentals of programming with this method of teaching. To Charles Brown Thank you for you hard work putting together this course. I really appreciate a good teacher and would like to thank you for it.

By Lefty Pakulski on 2/16/2019

Thank you Charles! I found the course both informative and educational and I really appreciated the pace of your instruction. I appreciate the recommendation also move on to TypeScript. I was about to jump into an HTML/CSS course next but I think that studying js frameworks might be a better next step now. Hope to see you again soon.

By Zoran Lautarevic on 1/22/2019

For someone who's just starting programming, it's just great. Good explanation of the topics and really understandable. It gave me a solid understanding of the basics of JavaScript and its possibilities. The one thing that could be improved is the font size of his code. I use a 24" monitor for the videos so it works for me, but if your screen is smaller, the code font may be too small.

By Peter Fischer on 12/2/2018

Good explanation of the topics and really understandable. Over all the goal was ti learn JavaScript. It is surprisingly not overwhelming but like Charles E. Brown at the end said make sure you understand everything and I will go over the topics again for repetition. I know there is way more in JS but to start pout with the basics and go from there this is a great course. Thank you!
