What you will learn

  • Know basic and advanced techniques needed to dive into VR game development
  • Extend the standard assets, such as the FPSController or simply the MainCamera, with your own scripts
  • Use the direction the player is looking in while playing for different purposes such as aiming, shooting, selecting objects, trigger functions by looking at objects and more
  • Use techniques such as raycasting or instantiating objects
  • Know how to deal with graphical user interfaces in virtual reality

Course Description

This course tackles the hot topic of "virtual reality". This tutorial is not a guide to implementing a specific game, it rather gives you the tools and knowledge to implement your own VR games. Unlike other courses about the oculus rift, this course does not stop after the setup. We take a look at the things that really matter for VR development. Without wasting time we quickly proceed with interesting and important topics that go beyond setting up a simple character to walk around in VR. Besides using the headtracking for shooting objects, we see how raycasting can be used to analyse and trigger functions at an object which is being looked at. Further topics are dealt with, such as user interfaces and more. Get a head start by taking this course.
In the course, we take a look at different techniques that are crucial to VR development, such as:-using the headtracking for aiming and shooting-raycasts to analyse an object which is being looked at-retrieve the world point, at which the player is looking to send a character there-teleport the player to visit interesting sites of a model-various controls for user interfaces (look based input and more)The length of the course is about 1 hour, but as the course is rather dense, you will get much more content than you would expect from an hour long tutorial.
Who this course is for:
If you are interested in Unity3D or virtual reality, then this course is for you. Participants of this course are thereafter able to develop their own applications with the Oculus Rift. This course covers everything from the basics, such as using the headtracking for aiming, shooting and selecting objects up to alternative movement models, namely bird's eye camera controls or teleporting. Useful programming skills can be picked up along the way as we practice the new techniques with several training examples in the Unity3D environment.

I've aquired my master degree in computer science in 2016 at TU Braunschweig / Germany. I've been using unity since the beginning of 2014, mainly for just-for-fun game projects and for some of my courses at university. Virtual reality is an interesting and upcoming field and therefore interests me in particular. I hope to share some of my knowledge about the oculus rift and about programming with it.

I Liked it very much but it's old version of Unity. I haft to do lot of work that I understand this system, but I will. :)

I assign 3 stars because the course is aimed at those who are learning VR. Lessons were made for a VR without Oculus Rift controls. With respect to Oculus Rift, there is almost nothing, and almost zero. Neither is mentioned the 2 controls and their features !. If you take "Oculus Rift" from the course title, return and assign note 5.

It would be helpful if the scenes and the scripts shown are already included in the resources of the course.

Clear and Easy to follow

Great course and easy to follow. Just wish there was more content! (Specifically how to perform network calls from within your game, and how to parse and use JSON data to dynamically change UI elements)

Great

Sharp clean and concise info. Give him 20 minutes and he will give you a world of opportunity.

OUTDATED, works with Oculus DK2 and old Unity version.
Very short course, 1 hr.
Handy for me for only because it explains some Oculus basics, just a few things, that's why I gave it more than just 1 star.
Not worth full price !!!

There is lots of relevant content in this course. However, the instructor goes at what is, for me at least, a very fast pace. I have found it quite difficult to follow the techniques and explanations on a first and even second viewing because of the rapid speed of both the verbal delivery and the screencasts.
I am going to persevere because the Instructor is very knowledgeable and the techniques he describes very interesting and relevant, but I am having to replay many segments until I can reproduce the necessary actions.
A very useful follow-up course would describe how to program the Touch controllers.

This is a great course if you previously work on Unity and want to start VR.
This said, I personally would've not put under "Skill Level: All Level". In my opinion the pacing of this course is a little bit fast, mostly for people that are not that use to work on Unity. You need to have certain level of knowledge about the Editor, and a little bit of knowledge programming as well to understand what is happening on the course.
Beside that every tip and info is very well showed and explained. Maybe a little complicated in the GUI part. And try to update the videos to newer versions of Unity (OVR and FPS controller differences).
Great course

A good course for learning the basics of VR interactions. While there is much more to learn, this course offers a solid background and information on the basics, giving code and explanations for how to do several aspecs of VR Game design (such as shooting, menus, movement, and so on).
There is much more to learn, but this course gives a good solid foundation for future lessons.
