Course Description
In the world of programming, one frequently encountered challenge is managing background jobs effectively. These tasks, which operate behind the scenes without requiring direct user interaction, are essential for many applications but can be tricky to implement correctly. Successfully running background jobs without introducing errors or complicating your codebase might seem daunting at first. However, with the right tools and understanding, it’s far more approachable than you might expect.
This course introduces you to the concept of background processes, sometimes referred to as background jobs or tasks. You will explore their significance in modern software development. Specifically, you’ll dive into Hangfire, a powerful, open-source library designed to simplify background processing in .NET and .NET Core applications. Hangfire stands out for its simplicity, persistence, transparency, reliability, and efficiency, making it an excellent choice for developers working with ASP.NET Core.
Throughout the course, you’ll gain hands-on experience and a deep understanding of key concepts. You’ll start by learning what background processes are and why they matter. From there, you’ll explore why Hangfire is a preferred solution for background processing in ASP.NET Core applications. The course will guide you through practical steps, including setting up Hangfire in an ASP.NET Core Web API project. You’ll master various types of background jobs, such as fire-and-forget jobs for one-time execution, delayed jobs for scheduled tasks, recurring jobs for repeated operations, and continuations for chaining dependent tasks.
By the end, you’ll be equipped to implement robust background processing in your own projects with confidence and precision.

Ervis Trupja
Hi everyone! I'm Ervis, and I'm thrilled to be here at Udemy guiding you through the world of building apps by coding along.
My passion for programming is fueled by a strong foundation in mathematics and data structures. While I'm a .NET developer at heart, thanks to the vibrant Microsoft ecosystem, I'm a firm believer in continuous learning and constantly expand my horizons by exploring new languages, paradigms, and ideas.
Outside of teaching, I work as a software engineer and founder. I'm currently building Reslug, a URL shortener, QR code generator, and link-in-bio platform built on .NET 9 and Azure. A lot of the patterns I cover in my courses, clean architecture, EF Core, authentication, multi-tenancy, come straight from problems I solve there day to day.
When I'm not coding or recording, you'll find me lost in a good book or exploring a new corner of the world. Travel and reading keep me curious and feed how I approach problems.
Excited to build alongside you and turn your programming goals into real, working software.

The content provides a solid foundation for understanding the underlying concepts and how things work. However, it would benefit from being updated to reflect the latest practices and technologies. This course is outdated but worth learning.

Videos are well explained to basic of Hangfire but you can check PR for your source code. Because when I run this code and created database, it got an excepiton Invalid object name 'HangFire.AggregatedCounter' error message https://github.com/etrupja/hangfire-webapi/pull/1

Good that everything is not just "smooth sailing" since it's never when it comes to writing code. You need the "what happened there" moments and how to resolve them.

This course and instructor are outstanding. It is intended to be a quick introduction to Hangfire and that's exactly what it is. I really hope Ervis makes more training videos for Udemy. He's is knowledgeable and well spoken and his presentation is complete and well structured !

I liked this course very much, pertinent to my interests, good presentation of the concepts with suitable code examples. I was able to test the examples from scratch while following the instructor (pause button at the ready). I encountered one issue (CORS: Access-Control-Allow-Origin) which can be easily worked around by using the desktop version of Postman. I would recommend my team take this course.
