Good course. Very down-to-earth instructor. This serves as a very good survey of BASH programming. Gives you a good sense of what is possible. I have been using this to prepare for an interview to fill in gaps in my previous knowledge. I will still need to do a good deal more reading, but this has got me to the point of feeling more confident with knowing what additional information I need to seek out. The following comments are just some constructive feedback and wishlist items. These aren't huge marks against the course, just hopefully helpful to the instructor going forward! (Thanks for your time and effort on this, man!): - I was hoping to get more detail on some of the more advanced regex data manipulation commands like awk and sed, but I understand this was more of a general overview. Definitely more in-depth than most freely available videos online. - Would have liked some more real world examples to provide more context for when each command is most useful, but again, this was probably not part of the intended scope of the course. - I would have liked a more comprehensive breakdown of the various uses of parentheses, brackets and curly braces though. They were introduced pretty well, but it just would have been nice to have seen a visual "build up" of these as they were introduced as the tools available to the programmer, with refreshers over time on why one would use one over another. This is especially because there are so many syntax alternatives for various tasks.

The course is comprehensive. The instructor really made a good selection of the topics. The explanations were in general good and clear, but sometimes the examples were a bit more complicated than necessary, in my opinion. There were some topics for which the simplest cases were mentioned for the first time in a section whose topic was another one. It was said that there would be another section in which that would be examined with more detail, but in the corresponding section it was said that the concept had already been shown, so the simplest cases were not explicitly discussed. I would have liked that each section had contained the corresponding topic from scratch up to the more complex aspects of it. In conclusion, it was a good course. In the end, what was shown in the lessons was sufficient to understand the topics. I would recommend this course.

A very good course. I found it really useful while preparing my first real bash script. It can seem a bit difficult at the beginning, but it is well structured and comprehensive. After a while everything becomes clear.

The instructor seems to use clear examples and covers small enough chunks that you can follow what he is trying to convey. He has a very small accent, which doesn't distract enough to be a problem. He keeps the listener's attention. I like how he covered the installation of virtual box so that the student would have a learning environment if they didn't already have a hypervisor available to them. The presentation, in general, of the subject material was well done. Like how he tries to limit the videos to smaller sizes so that you don't have to sit through a long video recording. Although the videos are short (no more than 16 minutes), maybe slowing the pace down and doing a few more videos on a topic to explain things that were missed would be helpful. Also think having at least one basic exercise or challenge per video to have students practice what was learned would be helpful. The examples were very good. The instructor seemed to put enough time in to creating short examples that illustrated concepts. I liked this the most out of this class.

I am not novice when it comes to bash but I find course very useful. There are multiple ways of doing things in bash, I get that but for beginners those things should be explained better. fl=`ls ~` fl=$(ls ~) You can easily google it but this is one detail that people can get confused when they see someone's code. This one is one that caught me: I am used to if [ a -gt 5 ] || [b -lt 10] or if [[ a -gt 5 ]] || [[ a -lt 10 ]] where Ermin uses: if [[ a -gt 5 || a -lt 10 ]] all three of those are the same but can catch you. As I said I am not novice, I still learned few things. I think this is one of the best bash scripting tutorials on the net.

Done over 70% so far and learned a lot. The instructor's English is funny though: oops not ups* ;) He keeps bidding farewells too which I can get used too haha At least, I appreciate the informal and comfortable way of communicating ideas. The obvious addition to improve the course that I can think of is to include homework projects. My experience was that unless I wrote my own scripts, just following the lectures (and even typing everything on my own) wouldn't teach me much. Learning at least for me takes place in the process of going back and forth.

Author shares valuable information. In a few cases explanations weren't completely clear, but quick search on the web clarified them (mainly matter of exact meaning of expressions used), that's why I rate this 4.5 not 5. I definitely recommend this course for anyone willing to begin using Bash or extend their knowledge.

Personally for me, tutorials are good. Despite few mistakes I noticed. But IMHO it's aimed for people who had some basic experience in scripting or programming, otherwise I believe some nuances is hard to understand without basic understanding about the variables, loops etc concepts. UPD: finished this course and I can tell that author didn't track accurately of what he told in previous lessons - for example he says "About sed command I told in previous lessons", however nothing was told about sed in previous lessons. I noticed such behaviour 3 or 4 times along the whole course. In general course is good and I would recommend it to people who wants to start scripting! Thanks!

OK! I'm done with the course and I love it! Erwin is a wonderful teacher! The tuto is really complete and it'll definitely need a lot of extra work on your hand but the bases are there! What I especially like is the fact that the tutor appears as really "human" and shows how to debug and think like a programmer rather than showing a perfect world where everything is smooth and gentle! This is one of the best course I have ever taken in CS and @10EUR I already enrolled the python, C# and hacking courses as well! "I bid all farewell and hope to see you" in the discussion section! Nice work Erwin! Thanks a lot!

Lots of valuable content and information. The author is very knowledgeable about the subject. There are many examples and explanations. On the down side, the presentation of the course feels very chaotic. The examples don't seem well thought out. The first time he introduced an 'if' statement he uses the complicated single line syntax and doesn't show the easier to read multi line syntax until a few videos later. There is little attention to the naming of variables, functions and strings which would help make examples more clear. There is a lot of unneeded commentary by the author. Likely the course would be 20% shorter if he didn't include statements about why he's recording at 1am or discussing how he has no idea why he choose something. If you can power through the fair presentation skills, you'll learn a lot of great information.
