This course will introduce you to the Basics of OOP with C#, followed by a Project to Practice - Warrior Wars!

Our take
Based on the ratings of 6,332 students and a sample of their written reviews, the syllabus, the course as of September 2020. No course pays to be reviewed.
This is a short, free introduction to object oriented programming in C#. The syllabus shows 22 lectures over 100 minutes, split between quick lessons on classes, constructors, fields and properties, const and readonly, static classes and enums, then a 39 minute project where Tod Vachev builds a small console game called Warrior Wars. It's labelled All Levels, but the requirements list asks for prior coding experience and some C#, and reviewers agree that's the honest bar. Around 116,000 students have enrolled and more than 6,300 have left a rating, with the average sitting at 4.5.
Students like how much ground the course covers in so little time. Several reviewers say the instructor explains things clearly and that the project made concepts click that had felt abstract, and more than one mentions being pleasantly surprised by a free course. The complaints are consistent. The pace is quick, especially in the project, where one reviewer missed new fields being added to a class. A few say the explanations assume knowledge a true beginner won't have, one found the accent hard to follow, and an intermediate learner wanted more on how the pillars of OOP fit together. Inheritance, interfaces and polymorphism are barely touched.
The last update was September 2020. That matters less here than it would for a framework course, since classes and properties in C# haven't changed much, but don't expect newer language features. Beside the Unity game development courses and the paid C# fundamentals courses it sits with, this is the smallest commitment by a wide margin. As a free warm-up before something like C# Intermediate: Classes, Interfaces and OOP, it's an easy recommendation. As a standalone OOP education, it isn't one.
Pros
- Covers classes, properties, const vs readonly, statics and enums in under two hours, for free
- The Warrior Wars project ties the concepts together in working code rather than slides
- Reviewers say the explanations are brief and clear, and the project made abstract ideas click
- About 81 percent of the 6,300 plus ratings are 4 or 5 stars
Cons
- Pace is fast, especially in the project, and several reviewers wanted fuller explanations
- Not truly All Levels: it needs prior coding and some C#, and beginners say it assumes too much
- Skips inheritance, interfaces and polymorphism, and was last updated in September 2020
I didn't have high expectations coming into this course since it was free but man, was I glad I watched it. This guy goes over some OOP concepts and explains it in ways I can thoroughly understand.
Listed as All Levels, but the requirements ask for prior coding and some C#. Best as a second step after a C# basics course.

Course Description
This course will lay the foundations of Object Oriented Programming (OOP) in your mind, allowing you to progress to more complex, systematic and cleaner Programming methods.
The course is aimed at students who have at least some coding experience, preferably with C# (but Java or any other similar language is also acceptable).
In the course you will learn:
- What is an object and a class
- What is object oriented programming
- Class Constructors
- Namespaces
- Should you or should you not use the "this" keyword
- Fields and Properties
- Different ways in which Properties can be used
- Const and Readonly constants, the difference between them and how to use them
- Static Fields and Static (Singleton) Classes
- Enumerations
- And more...
At the end, we will create a project to practice everything that we have learned in the course, by using a clean and systematic way.
We are going to ask ourselves a series of questions and we will answer them with code, this will produce a beautifully written high quality code, that you will fall in love with.

I have graduated at Technical University of Varna as a Robotics Engineer. With several years of experience as a Passionate Developer and Engineer, I am now an Online Entrepreneur. Teaching is one of my passions, and what better and more impactful way to teach, than to do it online with thousands of students?
Currently focusing on providing quality education to tens of thousands of students across the globe, on subjects including:
- Programming, focusing on the C# Programming Language
- MATLAB, because this is a scientific tool that no scientist can do without
- Running Online Businesses that Earn Passive Income
For the past four years I have focused on the above and I have never stepped into the 9 to 5 world, I have worked in a company only once in my entire life and it lasted only 2 months. That's when I realized that, I can't learn the things that I want and I can't buy the things that I want buy working for someone else. You should start working for yourself aswell!
It does not matter if you want to become a developer or to run niche sites around the web, you can do both of these things in your own time as a freelancer or a business owner. And I can teach you how to do both of these things.

I didn't have high expectations coming into this course since it was free but man, was I glad I watched it. This guy goes over some OOP concepts and explains it in ways I can thoroughly understand. Well worth your time if you are trying to learn OOP.

The tutorials are easy to follow through with great examples. I learnt a lot of things from these tutorials and now I have a clear understanding of what Object Oriented Programming is all about. I can't want to dive in for more. Thank you Tod for these well explained concepts.

Thank You so very much for conducting this course. I have extended my knowledge about the OOP and C# with the acquired knowledge. I have called my good guy Conan and I must say that most of the times, Conan is victorious. Again, thank you for explaining everything in details, it was a nice trip!

My only real Issue with this course is that it specifies it is for all levels however to a beginner it really isn't. I knew a fair bit and didn't struggle to understand the topic at hand but at the same time I believe some people would as he is explaining it as if you should already be aware of certain things. That being said I did learn a few small bits here and there that increased my knowledge of certain aspects from this course and am grateful for that.

Sometimes he edits code off screen, so if you're not careful you could be scratching your head on why your code isn't working. Other than that it's a great course for learning about class's, and its free!

Good examples to follow. Since I'm completely new to Visual Studio and C#, I didn't know what type of app he was making so that took some searching around online (Console App (.NET Core)). Otherwise, it was great. I actually stopped doing the course until I had a better grasp on the basics and came back to it to improve my understanding.

Excellent course as an introduction for OOP, i've never formally studied OOP before this course and i could get everything that was explained smoothly, the only thing in the lectures that i think that could be better is spending a little more time talking about the abstractions themselves, i think that this could be "too fast" for someone who has very little experience programming at all. The other "downside" of the course is that the instructor could give more room for people to go and try out themselves to code and play with the things they're learning, even though you can always pause the videos and do things preemptively, it's always nice to be challenged in testing your understanding of something you've just heard about; even if it's a very silly and easy-to-understand topic, i think that it always benefits the learning process. Nonetheless, i strongly recommend this course for anyone trying to learn OOP by themselves or as a reminder for those who already learned it.

Good to help understand the basics of Classes and Enumerators in C# and how they are used in a real-world example. Easy to understand and follow, a little fast paced at times and some shortcuts aren't explained but definitely a good course to build on.

Very good and comrehensible style. A bit fast in some areas, but there's this thing called pause button. The super russian accent may be a turn off for some, but i didn't mind it at all. Actually i thought it's better than a chewing gum american accent.
