CourseDuck blog cover: the best SQL courses on Udemy in 2026
As featured on Harvard EDU, Stackify and Inc, CourseDuck rates the best courses, tutorials, providers and certifications from student reviews, public mentions, recommendations and polling Stack Overflow members. How we rank

This list is for anyone who needs to get data out of a database: analysts, developers, and anyone whose job now involves writing a report query. Our catalogue lists 441 live Udemy courses in SQL, MySQL and PostgreSQL. These ten are the ones we would buy for each goal. They have over 570,000 student reviews between them, every one is rated 4.5 or higher, and four of them were updated in September 2026.

Every rating, review count, length and last-update date on this page comes from our catalogue and is refreshed with it. The pros and cons are written by CourseDuck’s editors from the course syllabus and a sample of the written student reviews, and checked against both; no course pays to be on this list. Udemy prices move with its sales, so treat the price on each card as the current one, not a fixed one.

Which SQL should you learn first? The basics (SELECT, WHERE, GROUP BY and joins) look very similar in MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server and Oracle, so what you learn in one mostly carries over, even though each adds its own extras. Pick the one your target job or company uses. If you do not know yet, PostgreSQL and MySQL are free and run on Windows, Mac and Linux.

How to pick

  • You have never written a query: The Complete SQL Bootcamp (PostgreSQL) or The Ultimate MySQL Bootcamp. One is enough.
  • You want a daily plan: 15 Days of SQL.
  • You are heading for a data analyst or BI role: SQL - MySQL for Data Analytics and Business Intelligence, or the 30 hour Complete SQL Bootcamp if you also want a data warehouse project.
  • Your company runs SQL Server or Oracle: the 70-461, 761 T-SQL course or The Complete Oracle SQL Certification Course.
  • You write applications: SQL and PostgreSQL: The Complete Developer’s Guide, then Fundamentals of Database Engineering.

Start here: your first SQL course

1. The Complete SQL Bootcamp: Go from Zero to Hero

Jose Portilla’s bootcamp is the most-reviewed SQL course in our catalogue, with about 258,000 reviews and just over a million students. It is short for what it covers: about nine hours over 83 lectures, teaching PostgreSQL through pgAdmin. You restore a sample database first, then work through SELECT, GROUP BY, joins, timestamps, creating tables and a short section on conditional expressions and procedures, with challenge questions after each section. It assumes no experience at all. Reviewers praise the plain, unhurried explanations and the short videos. The complaints are about scope: it stops at an intermediate level, with no window functions (they are sold as a separate course) and no query optimisation, and it was last updated in December 2022. Core SQL changes slowly, so it is still a strong first course, just not the last one.

Pros

  • Short, plain lectures; a reviewer with ADHD says nothing is explained in a convoluted way
  • Challenge questions after each section, pitched at the right difficulty according to reviewers
  • You restore a real sample database in pgAdmin at the start instead of just watching someone code

Cons

  • Stops at intermediate level: window functions and query optimisation are not covered
  • Last updated December 2022; some reviewers find the second half rushed with few worked examples
  • Only two quizzes and no coding exercises, so practice comes from the challenge videos alone

Coming from a non technical background I found this course really useful. The instructor was really good and the way he taught the course made it look really simple. All the resources provided in the course is of great relevance and help. I highly recommend this course.

Ritik Dhakad

Amazing course with concepts required for corporate usage, though there are a few bugs in psycopg tutorial wherein psycopg.connect method do not take database as attribute (version 2 and 3), instead use dbname. Also, cursor object has no method as commit(), conn object has!

2. The Ultimate MySQL Bootcamp: Go from SQL Beginner to Expert

Colt Steele’s MySQL bootcamp is the beginner pick if you want to build databases as well as query them. It was rebuilt from scratch with more than 325 new videos, last updated in July 2026, and runs about 18 hours over 337 lectures: CRUD, string and aggregate functions, joins, many-to-many relationships, views, window functions and triggers, ending with an Instagram-style database clone and reports against a large dataset. It has about 110,000 reviews at 4.7. Reviewers say the pace is well judged and that someone with zero SQL can follow along. Practice comes from the challenges rather than graded work, since there are no quizzes or coding exercises, and one reviewer found exercise instructions that do not match the posted solutions.

Pros

  • Rebuilt from scratch with over 325 new videos and updated in July 2026, so it matches current MySQL 8
  • Exercises and challenges start within minutes, and code files are posted after each video
  • Covers window functions, views, triggers and a full Instagram-style schema, not just SELECT basics

Cons

  • Some exercise instructions don’t match the posted solutions, according to a recent three-star review
  • No quizzes or graded coding exercises, so practice relies on following along with the challenges
  • One reviewer says some sections are old, and there’s little on ER diagrams or tuning

I originally took this course to refresh my SQL knowledge, and even though I'm only halfway through, I'm really enjoying it. It has helped me reinforce what I knew, learn new concepts, and organize my understanding much better.

Mariana Neves

Amazing course! Very easy to follow, super clear, and easy to watch the short videos. Everything is clear, from the setup to the exercises. There were many practical exercises and clear explanations. Really glad I took this course on. Highly recommend.

3. 15 Days of SQL: The Complete SQL Masterclass 2026

If you need a schedule to stick to, Nikolai Schuler splits PostgreSQL into 15 days of roughly an hour each, plus an extra day on CTEs. That adds up to 15.1 hours over 271 lectures, with 27 quizzes, 22 coding exercises and two projects. Day one is your first query; days 11 to 15 cover window functions, grouping sets, stored procedures, transactions, indexes and query optimisation. It was updated in September 2026 and has about 18,000 reviews averaging 4.7. Reviewers say every theory block is followed by an exercise and that the sheer number of challenges is what makes it stick. Some found the pace fast, one found the last chapter rushed, and the second project is only ten minutes long, so treat the projects as light practice.

Pros

  • Short daily sections of about an hour, each followed by hands-on exercises
  • 22 coding exercises and 27 quizzes keep each topic from staying theory
  • Reaches window functions, stored procedures, indexes and query optimization
  • Updated in September 2026, and PostgreSQL skills carry over to other SQL dialects

Cons

  • One reviewer found the last chapter rushed, with no document and unanswered questions
  • Some students found the pace fast and wanted more revision time per topic
  • The second course project is only ten minutes, so project practice is light

SQL for data analysis

4. SQL - MySQL for Data Analytics and Business Intelligence

365 Careers built this one for analyst and BI work rather than database administration. It runs about 12 hours over 334 lectures, with 157 quizzes and 123 coding exercises, all against one employees database that you load early and use to the end. It starts with database theory before the first SELECT, then works through joins, subqueries, views and stored routines, and closes with indexes, triggers and variables. It was updated in September 2026 and has about 65,600 reviews at 4.5. Reviewers like the lack of padding and the exercise after almost every topic. The complaints: the later sections get much harder, some lectures have audio cut-outs, one reviewer hit a dead download link for the database, and the delivery is scripted, with Q&A replies that can take over a week.

Pros

  • 157 quizzes and 123 coding exercises spread across 12 hours, so almost every topic gets practiced right away
  • Built around one realistic employees database, so joins and subqueries feel like actual analyst work
  • Concise explanations with little filler, according to several 4 and 5 star reviews
  • Updated September 2026 and still actively maintained nine years after launch

Cons

  • Later sections get much harder to follow, and one reviewer says the tutor rushes through the end
  • Audio freezes and cut-outs reported in some lectures, plus one dead database download link
  • Delivery is scripted and impersonal, and Q&A replies can take over a week

5. The Complete SQL Bootcamp (30 Hours): Go from Zero to Hero

Baraa Khatib Salkini, a data engineer and former Lead Data Engineer at Mercedes-Benz, teaches one of the two longest courses on this list: about 30 hours over 301 lectures, first published in March 2025 and updated in June 2026. It goes from SELECT and joins through NULL handling, CASE, four sections on window functions, subqueries, CTEs, views, stored procedures, indexes and partitions, and ends with three projects, the biggest a 36-lecture data warehouse build. A short section covers using ChatGPT and Copilot to write SQL. It has about 11,500 reviews at 4.7. Reviewers say his sketches make hard ideas easy to picture, and one who has taken more than five SQL courses on Udemy calls it the best so far. Practice is thin, with five quizzes and one coding exercise, and a Mac user struggled with setup.

Pros

  • Sketches make complex concepts easy to picture, reviewers say
  • Goes well past basics: window functions, CTEs, stored procedures, indexes, partitions
  • Ends with three projects, including a 36-lecture data warehouse build

Cons

  • Only one coding exercise and five quizzes, and one reviewer wants more tasks to solve alone
  • Mac setup gets little help, and one reviewer needed a developer friend to get going
  • Early chapters use functions and data types before explaining them, some reviewers say

The course was extremely thorough and I loved the insights into how things work under the hood, how databases are created and structured and how they operate. The exercises are extremely useful and the explanations are clear, useful and insightful. I did the course using PostgreSQL and it was still very easy to follow. I would highly recommend it!

George Phillips

It's a good course, my only complaint so far is that it is obvious that the instructor has changed the order of some of the sections because there are frequent references to material that hasn't been covered yet along with references to covering a subject later that has already been covered. This isn't usually a big issue, because each lesson usually stands reasonably well alone, but it is...

6. Zero to Hero in SQL: SQL for Data Analytics

Start-Tech Academy’s course is the compact, practice-heavy option: about 10 hours over 128 lectures on PostgreSQL, with 52 coding exercises and 67 quizzes. It runs from basic SELECT statements through joins, subqueries, string and date functions and window functions, with a short block of interview theory and performance tips at the end. An April 2026 update added practice labs and case studies, and it was updated again in September 2026. It has about 14,000 reviews at 4.6. Reviewers praise the browser practice platform and the joins and subqueries sections. Several found the instructors’ accents hard to follow even with captions, and one says the auto-graded exercises are picky about keyword case.

Pros

  • 52 auto-graded coding exercises and 67 quizzes, plus a browser practice platform a student says is great
  • Joins and subqueries get 100 minutes of dedicated lectures and a reviewer singles them out as well explained
  • Updated September 2026; the April 2026 update added practice labs, case studies and interview theory
  • Runs about 10 hours, so a reviewer says it fits a weekend or office breaks

Cons

  • Several reviewers say the instructors’ accents make the narration hard to follow, even with captions
  • Coding exercises are picky about keyword case, so correct answers can be marked wrong
  • One 1-star review says the course flags after joins and the syntax taught after date-time functions is incomplete

In Section 22: Data Type conversion functions, coding exercises 51 and 52 do not let you use 'to_char' or 'to_date', which were covered in the video lessons.

Sebastian Ricardo Borja Bustamante

Todos los ejercicios son claramente explicados y se demuestra visualmente cada paso. Asimismo, se tienen recursos de las clases para repasar y reforzar lo aprendido en la clase.

The database your company runs

7. 70-461, 761: Querying Microsoft SQL Server with T-SQL course

If your employer runs Microsoft SQL Server, Phillip Burton’s course covers its T-SQL dialect end to end. It was built around the now retired 70-461 and 70-761 exams and runs 28.7 hours over 270 lectures, from installing SQL Server and creating tables through joins, views, triggers, stored procedures, window functions, CTEs, XML, JSON, transactions and query tuning, with 74 quizzes along the way. It was updated in September 2026 and has about 18,600 reviews at 4.6. Reviewers find the explanations clear and the pace comfortable from zero. They would like more than its 12 coding exercises, and some found the delivery flat. SQL Server Management Studio, the tool it uses, needs Windows: Mac users need dual-boot or Parallels, and M1 or M3 Macs are not supported.

Pros

  • Starts at installing SQL Server and builds to CTEs, XML, JSON and indexes
  • Reviewers find Burton’s explanations clear and the pace comfortable for newcomers
  • 74 quizzes, and still being updated in September 2026

Cons

  • Reviewers want more coding exercises, especially after the early sections
  • Some find the delivery flat, with an accent and occasional background noise
  • SSMS needs Windows, so Mac users need dual-boot or Parallels, and M1 or M3 Macs fail

The theacher is little boring, not engement himself, sometmes so flegmatic and chaotic, which makes in general the knowledge really hard to undestand. The course is excellent. I have been working on Oracle many years but now I also need to work on SQL servers as a developer. I turned to Udemy to find a SQL server crash course with details. I believe this is the right one for me. Nice to know DDL statements in SQL server can be a part of a transaction. 8. The Complete Oracle SQL Certification Course

For an Oracle shop, or anyone after the Oracle 1Z0-071 certification, this is the pick. It runs about 17 hours over 79 lectures: single-table queries, single-row and group functions, joins and subqueries, window functions, then DDL and an exam review section, with 53 coding exercises, 55 quizzes and two practice tests. It starts from zero and was updated in February 2026, with about 55,500 reviews at 4.6. Reviewers praise the clear explanations and single out the window functions section. The chapter on Oracle’s free online environment no longer matches the current site, and some students found Udemy’s exercise editor buggy.

Pros

  • Built around the Oracle 1Z0-071 exam, with a review section, walkthrough videos and two practice tests
  • 53 in-browser coding exercises, added in 2025, plus 55 quizzes, so there is practice after every topic
  • Window functions with OVER and PARTITION are explained clearly, a section one reviewer singles out
  • Updated February 2026, and source code for every lecture is on GitHub

Cons

  • The chapter using Oracle’s free online environment no longer matches the current site, so it is hard to follow
  • Udemy’s coding exercise editor is buggy for some students, with flickering and hidden code
  • One reviewer finds the instructor’s self-promotion off-putting

SQL for developers

9. SQL and PostgreSQL: The Complete Developer’s Guide

Stephen Grider’s course is for people who build apps and want the database to stop being a black box. It starts with basic SQL and keeps going into how Postgres stores data on disk, how indexes work, query tuning, recursive CTEs, schema migrations and running tests in parallel: 22 hours over 289 lectures, with 44 quizzes and 24 coding exercises. It was updated in February 2026 and has about 13,200 reviews at 4.7. Reviewers say he makes complex ideas simple. The practice site used early in the course has been down, so plan on installing Postgres locally, and triggers, auditing and production operations are not covered.

Pros

  • Explanations get praised repeatedly; students say Grider makes complex ideas simple
  • Goes well past SQL basics into internals, indexes, query tuning and schema migrations
  • 44 quizzes and 24 coding exercises keep it hands-on rather than lecture-only

Cons

  • The pg-sql.com practice site has been down; plan on a local Postgres install
  • Wide rather than deep; triggers, auditing and production ops are not covered
  • Notes aren’t provided; one reviewer says writing his own wasted a lot of time

Zac Israel

I must give this course five stars. Stephen Grider is an elite instructor-his explanations are clear, and he provides plenty of opportunities to apply what he teaches. I highly recommend this course and will definitely be taking more courses from him in the future.

JMichael

Stephen Grider provides a professional SOLID foundation with insightful examples of what works, what does not and why. Any student of his will quickly learn and advance at light speed, with practical examples and potential solutions. I highly recommend Stephen Grider.

10. Fundamentals of Database Engineering

Hussein Nasser’s course is not a SQL class. It is about how databases work inside, for developers who already know basic SQL: ACID, indexing, B-trees, partitioning, sharding, replication, concurrency control, storage engines, cursors and security, plus a long section on NoSQL architecture. At 31 hours it is long, and about ten of those hours are Q&A and discussion sections. It was updated in December 2025 and has about 12,300 reviews at 4.7. Reviewers praise how clearly he explains hard internals. The complaints are repetition, few visuals and long stretches of talking, so it suits people who learn by listening and do not mind skipping around or speeding up.

Pros

  • Covers B-trees, indexing, sharding, replication and storage engines in one place
  • Reviewers say Nasser explains hard internals clearly, from basic to advanced
  • Updated December 2025, with long Q&A and discussion sections on top of the core topics

Cons

  • At about 31 hours, reviewers say it repeats itself and could be much shorter
  • Light on visuals, with long stretches of talking over a console or webcam
  • Audio bothered one reviewer: mouth noises and sudden volume changes

What students say

Simon Júlia

I think I learned a lot. Since I did not have a degree from computer science, it was a very useful course to fill some gaps in my understanding of databases. I really envy the depth of the instructors knowledge.

Tran Nguyen

update later. i like the backend course of Mr. Hussein, so i'm checking out this one. many advanced concepts, high-level view of the database and its internal workings, content is more about relational databases, can we have more in-depth discussion and demo with nosql?
