Complete WordPress Theme Developer Course With Bootstrap (Udemy.com)

Bruce is great teacher and very much love and thanks to him. I am doing lot of courses on Udemy. This course is my thorough learning to become a wordpress developer. I loved this course, and build a working template. I dont find a reason, in my case, to give this course a rating below 5. Now, I also have the confidence that I can create some good working themes, that can at least help me setup my own websites and get me going into web development through wordpress. I seriously wanted to be into web world as a developer. This is course gets me going there. I think this course ensures that I am now very much interested into wordpress, its development and using js, html, css, php.

Feels like the chapter order has been mixed around so the code samples suddenly appear extra code snippets and some end of chapter quiz asks questions about code that isn't shown or discussed until later chapters. Also the screen capture has problems as the instructor has to describe buttons or fields that are off the visible part of the screen. It also seems to take awhile for the course to get going in the case that the student has their WordPress hosted on the internet ( I know you can skip ahead but there is important information that would be missed such as the file and path structure of a basic WordPress site). Apart from that the knowledge is very informative and clearly given with a good voice.

I wanted to leave a review to this course just after I've worked my way through all the lectures which I've done yet. I read all the emails by Bruce regarding some low star reviews claiming that there is no structure in this course and you don't get what you pay for. Bruce is right saying that you get a lot and the order isn't important since you can simply use the serveral pieces of code whenever and whereever you want. But it makes no sense to jump around. It should start at a white page and end with a complete theme. Sometimes you watch a new section beginning with the first lesson, the next one is totally different and the third one continues without saying that there have been some changes in between. Bruce is giving advices about proper coding but isn't following them himself. Another point is the window size which is too small to see everything. I've had a lot of course which managed to cope with udemy restrictions. I believe that there is lots of information in this course but you need to find them. With a bit more of a structure this could be a good one.

This course is great. I recommend it because many wordpress courses promise and never deliver teaching "how" to create a wordpress theme. Specifically, how php works with wordpress in detail. This one does! Some lessons could've been condensed in to one (do we really need 3 lessons on dummy texts and posts plugins?). Another suggestion is that the text editor that is used in the course. I understand it's just text, but staring at a white screen for hours tires the eyes. Most text editors now come with a darker background by default. There are a lot of new, free, and better looking text editors, including one from adobe called brackets. The recording could benefit from some editing. The video is static, there is no "zoom in" to appreciate areas of interest. Overall I like what I've learned which is more important to me. The instructor knows and is patient to explain. Im glad there's a course that finally teaches from the very start how to create a wordpress theme.

I love all Bruce courses,he is one of the best Wordpress development teacher around,I can build a theme to use or to sell with my own plugins build in,all the techniques from Bruce teaching,thank you Bruce for creating this course,compare to some other courses around his course cover many useful tips and techniques,I am getting better everyday.Thank again Bruce and wait for your next courses.Best of luck.

I've made my living as a coder (ColdFusion) since Feb 2000 and just now transitioning to PHP development. I will admit it took a bit to get used to Bruce's teaching manor since he was associated with Rob Percival but now really appreciate his style. He absolutely knows his stuff and now thoroughly enjoy the videos. It's just honest coding. Gotta love that. Highly, highly recommending this and his other two courses. He's the real deal.

This is definitely not a Rob Percival course. Video and sound quality varies from section to section. I find it a little hard to follow at times. I have learned a great deal of very helpful and useful information but I am a little upset that the PHP best practices were not taught from the beginning. Many people use these courses as references of the correct way to code. I understand the need to teach how to clean up code, and to know what the best practices are, but it should not have been so far into the course (Lesson 80) after an entire theme had been taught that contained so many errors to clean up. I know the course is new and will improve with time as missing pieces are filled in. I am 75% through the course and, through dialog with Bruce, I am confident that my concerns are being taken to heart.

So far it's a great course, I'm able to keep up with it, sometimes I will redo lectures just to recap and correct mistakes.I have just asked the instructor a question so will see what the response time is like. Yes, the instructor has replied to my query in a timely manner and he has explained it in a non-jargon way. Would have no problem recommending this course to anyone who wants to have a working knowledge of the backend of wp-themes, who like me are not expert in all thing WordPress. (Update) I have got as far as I can in this course (Lecture 90-odd) it's just got way to technical for a non-expert, but I still think it's great value for the money I paid . Alan Kelly

First what you really want to know: Is this course worth the money? 100% yes if you are new to making WordPress themes. Is it the end all and covers everything in WordPress? No. Wordpress is a really big program. I don't think a miracle worker could cover everything in 20 hours. Mr Percival does however cover a ton of ground with examples and repetition. As of the day of this review, he is answering questions and updating the course. One gets the impression that he is a man of integrity who cares about the student experience and the quality of his work. Some things that I haven't seen in the course so far being just over half done, in my opinion should have been by now but I'm very happy overall.

The course is thorough and super user friendly. The instructor patiently goes into every stage of theme development in a very clear way, and keeps reinforcing the information during each video and in a final review of each section. The material is great for beginners, but it also progresses towards more advanced topics such as the WordPress Customizer and integration with theme builders. At last a WordPress theme development course that doesn't stop at the plain vanilla WordPress theme. In fact, this course teaches how to build fully featured themes that can compete with most marketplaces. Warmly recommended.
