Course Description
In this course you will learn to use Control Rig in Unreal Engine 5, with a focus on creating procedural animation systems.
This course is suitable for complete beginners, all the way through to professional animators and experienced game developers. It begins very slowly with detailed explanations and instructions to take you through creating procedural animation systems, which gives us a chance to explore and become familiar with various features of Control Rig.
After creating a procedural walk system, we take a general look at some useful features of Control Rig, and experiment with systems that allow you to create characters that interact with the environment and move realistically.
And finally we will create a procedural turn in place animation system, including troubleshooting, tweaking, and working through the logic step by step.
The project file includes the completed versions of everything we create for Unreal Engine 5.2 and 5.3. This will be updated to include a 5.4 version when that version of the engine releases.
The techniques and methods explored are suitable for single player and multiplayer projects. The techniques used within Control Rig are also suitable for UEFN. This applies to the fully procedural sections and the specific functionalities we explore inside of Control Rig (at the time of writing animBP access is not available in UEFN, preventing a combination with keyframed animation - but the majority of the concepts will still work).
This information in this course is not available elsewhere, and is the result of many years of experimentation with Control Rig and procedural animation systems. My goal was to condense all of my experience with Control Rig into an easily digestible and understandable course, with explanations and diagrams at every step, so that you can learn a full mastery of how to use Control Rig for your own procedural and dynamic animations.
I look forward to seeing you on the course, and for you to share your creations and ideas. I'm always available for a discussion of concepts/ideas/help with any project, even if your specific use-case isn't covered directly in this course.

It's clear Lincoln knows what he's talking about. The deepest control rig information I saw, and the approach of the final chapter - solving a problem as-is and recording it, is bold and educative. I do think the rythem of the course is fast, so I wouldn't say it's for beginners, however Lincoln compesates with good explanations and the examples we end up with are super useful for future projects. Totally recommended!

Awesome, the course expands what learned in the previous course of procedural walking. Very usefull to get more used to the control rig logic and vectorial maths. As he says at the very end. Practice is what will give us the full understanding of what is happening. Awesome introduction to the awesome world of procedural animation! Thank you!

Just a brilliant course in general. Each step is well thought out, and I appreciate how 'short' each section is - makes it easier to go back to review something later on.

This is by far better than any tutorial I've seen for understanding Animations. He doesn't just have you follow him, he explains why he does it one way when there is another solution. Then explains the other solution briefly. He draws some pictures for absolute beginners like myself (it helps). Then once we get a hang of it, he challenges us to guess what will happen before we review the changes. (I didn't realize how important the calculations would be for top tier animations, THANKS!) Great instructor, amazing course, I feel more confident in places that were daunting. A few thing were obviously outdated, but I was able to figure out the subtle changes and everything worked great.

Thank you very much for creating this course. I was looking into learning procedural animation and found an introductory tutorial on YouTube, and then ended up here. I have experience with Control Rig for rigging, but it was insightful to see how I can use it for procedural animation. I have one feedback. It would be helpful if you also added more drawings or illustrations while explaining some concepts, like cycles and stuff related to movements. You already did that at some points, and it would be helpful to inlcude more.

Gotta say this course was very clear, intuitive and I never got lost. Still relevant for 5.7 despite minor node changes that nothing a google search wouldn't fix. 5/5 you change my views on unreal CRs change from "absolute witchcraft" to "I think I may actually manage to make a thing out of it"

This is a pretty good course. It's definitely not for beginners. You should be at least intermediate with normal blueprints, understand the basic math of Unreal, have at least a basic competence with using normal animations in AnimBP's, understand skeletal meshes etc. That being said it's so worth taking this course and the skills introduced give you enough to start implementing basic procedural stuff to improve your existing character animations or start a new project. The one criticism I'd give what that there wasn't quite enough explanation in some parts as to what various settings on certain nodes were really doing but I'm sure it's easy to figure out with further experimentation and reading the docs.

The course is not up to date for the newer UE 5.6 , some stuff not working as the course presenting . I have learned some good pointers from this course but a lot of stuff that the instructer was using he didn't fully explained a lot of them. also was hard sometimes to follow the flow of the blueprints.

Just finished the course and I really enjoyed it and learnt a lot. I was impressed at how clearly every single step was explained making it easy to follow even for someone relatively new to Unreal. After finishing the Scorpion procedural animation I was hooked. So cool! This course has inspired me and given me the confidence to start making my own procedural animations. Highly recommended!

Thank you! I learned a lot from this course and now I have the knowledge to implement my starfish-like walker creature for a personal project, the reason why I bought this course. I really enjoyed the process of learning and experimenting. I have spent quite some time implementing my own solution for the last section and although it became much more complicated than yours, I managed to solidify my knowledge while iterating towards the desired end result.
