Course Description
Do you need to make an ebook from a fiction book without using messy HTML code? This class shows you how to use Adobe Indesign to create a professional eBook without touching one line of code. The best part is you can use this layout for both an ebook and a print book using the techniques in this class. This course is for you! Most other Indesign courses teach lots of extra material that won't help you. This course is specifically targeted at people who want to create an ebook using Adobe Indesign without all the headaches of custom code.
Walter: "Your course was so helpful. My staff struggled for a month trying to learn Indesign from YouTube. We just wasted our time and missed critical opportunities. Your easy-to-follow teaching style literally hand-held us, taught my team time-saving skills, and saved us $1,000's of dollars in lost revenue. Thank you!" Walter P., Orange and Blue Marketing
From Aaron: "Hi there, my name is Aaron and I've professionally taught Indesign to hundreds of students. I've created hundreds of layouts in Indesign, from simple fiction books to complex guides and textbooks. Together we'll work through real projects with real manuscripts. You'll learn everything you need to know to be successful. This course is filled with instruction that gets you to success fast."
This course will allow you to create your own ebook and send it out to the market. Many "pro" ebook designers learn from YouTube as they go, wasting your money. Other Indesign ebook contractors charge insane amounts of money. That's why I made this course. It's for people who want to learn ebook creating from Indesign, whether it's for their book or to learn a new skill.
Bethany: "What you just taught me almost made me cry. Before your class, my boss made me change the font in our company book twice. It took me a week. With what you showed me, I could've been literally done in a minute. One week cut down to one minute. I hope others find your course." Bethany R., Outdoor Medical Training School
This course helps you avoid these mistakes:
Improper ebook formatting
Not adding a cover image
Classic manuscript import errors
Incorrectly choosing the wrong file type
Having to table of contents
It's so easy to make mistakes and not see them during an ebook layout. Aaron has seen books by great authors with terrible, incompatible ebooks. Trying to do an ebook layout in code is a waste of time when you can use Indesign to make a great-looking ebook quickly.
This course includes:
Sample files for practice
Sample copyright page text completely free to use
Ideas for adjusting your ebook
Aaron shares the tricks he's learned over years of doing ebook publication. The goal of this course is to teach you how to make your own ebook and not look like an amateur doing it. You'll learn the necessary skills to get the job done.
Manuscript software formatting guidelines include:
Microsoft Word
Google Docs
Even if you used a different program, the instructions for the above software will help you figure out what you need to do. Ask questions in the course forum and Aaron will do his best to help you out.
There are a lot of small but important details in the ebook layout. Avoid making errors with this course. You spent 100's of hours perfecting your manuscript. Don't make the rookie mistake of making your ebook look like it was prepared by an amateur.

I took both the Non-Fiction Book Design and eBook Creation courses. Both were clear, helpful, and well structured for learning print and eBook formatting. Two topics were missing for me: how to properly finalize and package InDesign source files, and how to handle images correctly when creating an EPUB. Overall, very useful courses, but adding these topics would make them more complete.

My only issue is that the information is dated. Aaron is using 2019 InDesign and the functions have changed here and there (2025) though he sometimes acknowledges that this may be the case. Offering an updated course would have been more helpful. This is a general issue of Udemy. It is the second course I have taken that is somewhat dated. Perhaps a policy where the course designer is required to update every 2-3 years?

The course gives a great insight on the topic, given that it is very centred on one specific task to finish. So, on that, it is absolutely great knowledge! However, there are InDesign points here that need an update. Newer versions, for example, have the option to change double-spacing to single spacing for you, and a bit more, making that Find Replace lecture outdated, because you can get the job done way faster. Worth checking some InDesign for beginners course as well you want to master that better.

If you are a complete newbie to InDesign, you will find all of this course very helpful. If you know it well, as I do, you will find much of it unnecessary. I fast forwarded through these parts. However, I do recommend watching all the videos as there are nuggets here and there that are useful. The most critical parts of the class for experienced ID users come in Section 12. I was very disappointed that designing e-book covers was not covered in more depth as that was the whole reason I bought this course. He glosses over it and suggests that you hire someone to design your cover. I am perfectly capable of designing a cover and really wanted that info. Luckily, I found an online source that helped with this. Overall, I would recommend the course if you know next to nothing about InDesign, but if you are experienced then you may find much of this pretty rudimentary.

Aaron does a wonderful job of teaching this InDesign to eBook course. He is clear and careful in his delivery. The course progress is smooth and ease to understand. This is a good match for me. I am familiar with past versions of InDesign, but not for creating books. I wish he would create the same course for paperback output.

This course is well-structured and comprehensive. It has information I couldn’t find elsewhere. It’s not often that I think a course is worth paying for when there’s so much information available online for free, but this course is definitely worth it. Even as someone who has experience with InDesign and with other Adobe software, I learned a lot from it. Aaron teaches you how to prepare your manuscript and design your book the right way so that you don’t come across issues further down the line that you could’ve avoided. This course makes navigating InDesign and designing a book feel manageable—and even enjoyable—rather than overwhelming.

Fabulous course and instructor! I loved his direct, no-nonsense style of instructing this material. I was struggling with many of the free online InDesign tutorials given the vast functionality of the program. But this course narrowed in on just the things I needed to know as a beginner. Highly recommend it to anyone planning to use InDesign for their Independent publishing needs.

I like these courses, however updates need to be made as I have 2022 and my things are a bit different I had to search on line to figure a couple of things out. but over all I know this course will help me to put out successful ebooks!

The instruction is step by step. I love the short lessons. It makes going back to review items much easier than courses with hour-long lessons. The subject isn't super exciting but the instruction is clear and easy to follow. I was able to make a test ebook pretty easily now, so the course was definitely worth it.
