Course Description
Course update March 2021: I've added a new guide that shows how to automate project management tasks utilizing GitHub's Kanban board.
Are you ready to launch your own freelance development business but don't know where to start? I used to be the same way and I spent years refining my system in order to run a successful freelance business. My name is Jordan Hudgens and I'll be your instructor for this course. In addition to being an instructor I also have a freelance development business that generated over $295,000 last year alone. In fact, in one month I made over $43,000 in freelance work. And in this course I'm going to walk through the exact process I used to build my freelance service so that you can learn from it and launch your own business.
I have spent the last year putting together this curriculum based on my own real world experiences with clients. This includes discussing the good, the bad, and the ugly when it comes to becoming a freelancer. Many other freelancing courses are filled with 1-2 hours worth of theoretical concepts. I took a different approach and focus 100% on practical real life experiences so that you can truly use this course to launch a freelance business. The result is that this course gives you 2 to 3 times more material than most other freelancing systems.
I've organized the course into practical sections so that you can follow along, this includes:
Preparing for the launch of your business. Including how to schedule your launch, how to create a portfolio that actually gets clients, how to craft a list of template proposals, and every other component you'll need in order to start your business.
Next we'll move onto the top challenge freelancers come across: how to get clients! This was the most difficult obstacle for me to overcome when I started my freelance business and I walk you through my marketing system that generated so many clients that I had to hire additional freelancers to help take on all of the new clients that were signing up.
As important as getting clients is when it comes to launching a freelance business I don't end the course there. I dedicate sections to the topics of managing projects, testing for code quality, working with legacy applications, and how to manage client communication to ensure that your clients become your biggest fans.
If the idea of hard work doesn't scare you off and if the concept of making your own schedule and being able to work from anywhere in the world is appealing, then this is the course for you.
Since these concepts are part of my life's work, I didn't simply record myself discussing the material. I also wrote a full book on how you can launch your freelance business called: The Freelancer's Manifesto, and I'm giving every student that signs up for this course a copy completely for free (sold for $30 online and in stores). The book is a great companion to the video lessons and includes additional stories and examples from my own freelance experience.
In addition to the book, when you sign up for the course I will also send you all of the documents you'll need in order to become a freelancer, including: the legal agreements I give to clients, my full list of template proposals, and as with all my other courses you can message me anytime with any questions that you may have.
Please feel free to review the course curriculum and I look forward to going through the material with you on your freelance journey!

Emphasizes the strategic and logical side of achieving success and, above all, happiness in self-employment. In addition to presenting the basic tools and techniques needed to become more effective, the trainer shares some very pertinent anecdotes revealing the importance of human skills, communication and respect for who you are and what you really want.

Great course to prepare the jump to freelancing. Even if it is from 2016, it is still relevant today for the most part. The only things that could be updated are the design software recommendations (No mention of Figma) and other newer project management tools (Monday, clickUp... ), but even then it is easy to understand the key useful features to look for in such software. Thank you Jordan!

I bought this course when I was preparing to leave corporate America to start a freelancing business. From pre-launch to post-launch, this is a course I kept coming back to, over and over, to get valuable information as I progressed on my journey. It covers the essentials and goes in depth on things like getting set up, marketing, proposals, bookkeeping, project management, and the touchy subject of managing clients. I found he was extremely candid and relatable when he explains his past mistakes with clients, and what he learned from them to help the viewer not make the same ones. I would recommend it to anyone wishing to start a freelance business, particularly in the tech field.

I did enjoy this course. There are many useful tips and tricks. However, there are some points that could be improved. 1) The video feels a bit like 1:1 conversation, which is good. but sometimes it would have been great if the video space is used to show the bullet points. In particular in the beginning, multiple things are mentioned. I would have helped to see the bullte points on screen for longer. 2) It sometimes feels to vague. I know it's difficult to bring such a topic to a wide area of potential freelancers. But sometimes, it feels a bit too vague (leaving more questions than answers) 3) It would be interesting to hear a bit more about time management (not just tools) and other experience. For instance, how many hours/week do you offer to companies if they look for a freelancer, how many (if any) contracts are you working on in parallel, ... Overall, it's good and worth the money and I would recommend it to ppl who want to get a feel about it.

Jordan is a stand-up freelancer, and I feel certain that by following the advice he's so carefully presented through this course, that I'll be off to a great start. His sections are always engaging and full of information with little to no filler. Going into this course, one of my goals was also looking to decide whether or not freelancing was something for me; Jordan gives off a level of assurance and confidence that transcends to the student, and I couldn't be more thankful for that. Understanding what it takes, and having all these resources to back me, I'm sure of beginning this venture.

Very recommended to anyone that wants to get into software dev freelancing! This course was exactly what I was looking for. Jordan does a great job at sharing his experience as a freelancer and going over the exact steps that you need to get started. The only suggestion to the course is to go over in more detail on how to determine the fee structure that we should charge. Other than that, great course.

This is course is everything described and more! Not only have I gained valuable insight on transitioning to being a freelance developer but the tips that Jordan also mirrored very well and has grown on my development skills. The course was concise as possible with no repetition and never felt long-winded at any stage. Whether you want to sit down a do the course in one whole chunk or over time I would highly recommend it.

This is a very well put together course. I took this not a Developer but as a Product Manager. I have to agree with lots of content when it comes to managing clients' expectations, organizing, gathering requirements and prototyping. Jordan offers tons of real-world examples. It's worth the price just to hear someone with real-world experience share the hard lessons they learned and also how they become better. Even if you are not a developer this course allows you to know how to find good devs that understand best practices, TDD and also other tools that htey use to be more effective.

I am a graphic and web designer who is just starting out freelancing. I bought this course despite the fact that I didn't read the overview (about how it was for devs lol). Even though I wont necessarily use the development parts, the sections on creating proposals, invoices, and client relationships are extremely valuable to ANYONE who wants to be a freelancer and have a freelance business. The instructor Jordan is awesome and really gives detailed info about presentation that has already helped me to land my first client on Upwork. Thank you, Jordan!

Great lessons on how to handle the day to day tasks to do as a freelance developer. The Good: - Not spoonfeeding. Jordan gives concepts and not actual "to-do lists". I like that it makes me think on how to "personalize" and grow as a freelancer because of it. - Based on actual experience The Cons: - Developer focused. While most topics can be applied to other freelancers, e.g. SEO, Consulting, etc., you'll get the most out of the training if you're a freelance developer. Summary: Take it if you're a starting freelance developer
