Course Description
Nearly every product made from metal -- from simple fasteners to complex structural elements to airplane parts -- has undergone some sort of heat treatment process. After all, the mechanical properties needed from a component like strength, hardness, ductility, or corrosion resistance, can rarely be achieved through material selection alone. Choosing the right material selection is only the first step. Engineering and metallurgists then need to apply the appropriate heat treatment processes to that material to achieve their desired results.
So if you are just getting involved with heat treatment processes, the design or manufacturing of steel components, or the purchasing of heat treated components, then this is the class for you!!
In this course, Fundamentals of Steel Heat Treating, licensed professional engineer and metallurgy instructor, Garry Pace, will share with you the basic concepts of heat treatment. And this course starts at the BASICS ... no obscure terminology or chemistry to wade through.
You will learn:
The basics of steel metallurgy
Fundamentals of heat transfer
The major types of heat treatment like annealing, quenching, tempering, normalizing and case hardening
How carbon affects the ability of a steel to be heat treated
How time and temperature interact to heat treat a part
An overview of mechanical properties
How heat treatment can help achieve those properties
The major furnace types
The major quench media types
And tons of practical insight
And in addition to the wealth of knowledge this course offers, you also get:
Lifetime access to all course materials
A Certificate of Completion showing your name, the course title, and length of course
Q&A access with the instructors through the Udemy platform
So if you're looking for a high-quality, low-cost way to understand the basics of heat treatment, then this is the class for you. SIGN UP TODAY!!!

Good in general. However, some voice recording issues make it diffcult to understand some sections. Some parts too waffly.

It was a very good introductory course. It covers the different types of quenching media, but not in the detail I was looking for (hoping to understand better the types of defects seen in steel when quenched, and what types of defect correlate to which types of process issue). Probably more of a specified course, which I am more than open to taking if anyone knows of one.

Easy to follow. Well structured. This is the third course I take with them. It is well done and I learn a lot watching them.

Course is design with basic knowledge which is good to make base knowledge initially & move forward to detailed knowledge.
By Angel Fernando Ramirez Landeros on 9/3/2024
Explanations are crystal clear, straightforward and concise. Very educational and not boring at all. I enjoy it much better than reading a book full of technical words that I need to look up in Wikipedia. Excellent!

Very helpful course. Now I'm looking for a detail course about microstructure & metallurgical

Great course, cover all basics of metal forging and gives some useful materials. It's nicely explained, has a couple of quizes and in general is fun course.
By Ginger Begnaud on 1/15/2024
I have zero background in this area and liked the simplicity of explanations. I will definitely have to view it more than once to absorb some parts.
