GenAI Application Architecture: Scalable & Secure AI Design (Udemy.com)

Build scalable, secure, and efficient GenAI applications with AWS, MLOps, monitoring, and cloud-native architecture

Created by: Paulo Dichone

Last updated November 2024

Our take

Based on the ratings of 881 students, a sample of their written reviews and the syllabus, as the course stood in November 2024. No course pays to be reviewed.

This is a 2.7 hour overview of how to design GenAI applications that run in the cloud. It uses the LGPL idea (Layers, Gates, Pipes, and Loops) as a frame, then walks through scaling, containers, load balancing, resilience, disaster recovery, security threats and cost. There are 44 lectures across 12 sections, with no quizzes and no coding exercises. The requirements list asks for intermediate Python and some AWS familiarity, but the material is explained rather than built. It suits architects and engineers who want the big picture first.

Paulo Dichone gets credit for clear, unhurried teaching. Reviewers say he breaks topics into manageable pieces and builds from one to the next, and one calls it useful for senior architects. The complaints are consistent, though. Several reviewers say much of it is general cloud architecture with little that is specific to GenAI, and one adds that the GenAI topics near the end feel rushed. Others miss worked examples or demos. A few found it basic or superficial, and one 3-star reviewer questioned how it describes what LLMs generate.

The rating is 4.4 from 881 reviews, and about 88 percent of them are four or five stars. The last update was November 2024, and at least one reviewer calls it outdated, which matters in a field that moves this fast. As a short, low-commitment look at the architecture side of GenAI on AWS, it does the job and fits in an evening. If you expect AI-specific patterns, code or diagrams, look elsewhere.

Best forCloud or software architects who want a gentle, high-level map of hosting and running GenAI apps on AWS.
Skip it ifYou want hands-on builds, real architecture diagrams, or deep GenAI-specific design rather than general cloud principles.

Pros

  • Slow, clear delivery that reviewers find easy to follow
  • Short at 2.7 hours, so it works as a quick overview
  • Covers disaster recovery, security threats and cost control alongside scaling
  • About 88 percent of 881 ratings are four or five stars

Cons

  • Much of the content is general cloud architecture, not GenAI specific
  • No demos, worked examples or coding exercises, so it stays theoretical
  • Last updated November 2024, and some reviewers call it outdated or rushed at the end
The course is easy to understand and get high level understanding of the architecture as well as infrastructure required for Gen AI application.

Labeled intermediate. Requirements list intermediate Python, AWS familiarity and ML basics, though reviewers describe a slow, high-level pace.

The course was more in to Theory no practical demo on how it will be real application scenario

By Nilesh Chaturvedi on 3/14/2025

A great cloud architecture course but light on GenAI. Great instructor. Great breakdown of lectures/sections. I think I just expected more GenAI concepts to be called out in the architecture. While it starts with LGPL and takes about GenAI, half of the course is about cloud architecture that was fairly general. All good stuff but I suppose I was expecting more focus on Gen AI. The Gen AI topics at the end seemed somewhat rushed. I would go deeper into those topics and perhaps slightly rush through the cloud architecture portion or increase the length by 30 mins and do justice to both.

By Anonymized User on 3/3/2025

Good course for quick overview on GenAI architecture in simple terms. Lot of architecture models were based on common cloud application architecture principles . It is better to emphasize the specific ones for GenAI to compress the course and go little deeper on those concepts.

By Marcus Mabee on 11/16/2024

This course is very well done. The instructor does an excellent job of breaking the topic down into manageable pieces, explaining each, and building from one topic to the next in a way that is easy to follow, and to understand.
