Course Description

**Updated for 2019**

I've updated this course to be more updated as technologies have changed over the last couple of years. The old course (based on Frontend Web Developer) is still available as a bonus module at the end (there's tonnes of great knowledge in the old course).

This course now includes the secret way to get a job interview without submitting a resume. It's not really a "secret" it's just a technique that nobody talks about — until now. It'll change the way you look for a job as a web developer!

------------------------------

*** If you're interested in becoming a web developer, this course IS for you! ***

This course is the result of a web development job study I did and I ended up getting 12 interviews in 12 weeks. Yes, I'm serious. Of those 12, most of them offered me a job and in the end I was able to pick which company I wanted to work for.

The goal was to learn what skills companies are actually looking for, and I found those... and much much more. I found a formula for getting interviews quickly.

I even had The City (that I live in) interview me. Twice!

Update: I'll teach you how to bypass submitting a resume to strangers, and how to get an interview with your dream company.

This course goes over everything I did, in a simple step-by-step guide. You'll learn:

  • The secret way senior developers get job offers so quickly

  • The hidden coding tool all developers use, but nobody talks about

  • How to stop blindly submitting resumes and get a real interview

  • How to work your way into your dream company

  • How to find what skills are ACTUALLY in demand in your city

  • How to filter the noise and bad advice in Facebook groups

  • The REAL truth about crazy job postings with insane qualifications

  • The REAL skills you need to get a job as a web developer (hint: it's not necessarily coding)

  • If you REALLY need a GitHub account and a portfolio website

  • How to NOT get stuck on small things (hint: stop being a perfectionist, it's holding you back)

  • How to find companies that are hiring in your city

  • Why remote jobs are NOT as awesome as people think (this is a common trap people fall into)

  • How to apply for your first job

  • How to manage your first interview

  • How to manage your nervousness in interviews

  • How to get TONNES of interviews. I got 12 interviews in 12 weeks.

  • How to negotiate your salary and how to deal with the dreaded "how much money do you want?" question

  • What companies are REALLY looking for (hint: it's not what you think)

  • Can't get any interviews? There's a lesson on how to climb out of that hole

  • Soft skills vs. technical skills -- which should you focus on?

  • How to get a job by making friends

  • What to do once you land your first web development job

This course is action-orientated. If you are willing to do the work, this course WILL work for you and get you a job soon.

All the techniques I'm teaching in this course I have actually used. There's no smoke or magic, and I'm not preaching without experience.

You will learn about some nasty truths about getting an interview in any industry and how to handle them. Don't get discouraged when somebody doesn't call you back.

But most importantly, you'll learn the secret to always having a job in web development. Actually, it's not a secret, it's just something nobody openly talks about.

If you're serious about getting a job as web developer then this course is definitely for you.

Honestly, I wasted my time and money with this course. I am looking at all my other courses, every cent worthed, but not with this course.

By Maria Donahue on 3/17/2020

Absolutely fantastic and honest description of breaking into web development. I have experience in a related field, and I'm looking to make a switch into this area. His description and strategies match what I've heard from others in web development. I'm so glad I found this as this course lays everything out in one place.

The course is very informative sprinkled with age old wisdom on what to do regarding the dilemma of securing job interviews as a web developer. The instructor passionately handles questions such as; what programming language(s) should new web developers focus on, skills that employers value, securing interviews, handling rejection or worse not getting response after sending cv. The course also touches on bad advice and misconceptions in the social media that may or may not be true for web developers and are in most cases a set up for disappointment to those that believe everything blindly and so forth. The course offers practical solutions, tips and personal insights that are gems all based on the instructor's candid personal experiences until he found his first job as a web developer. Honestly, the principles the instructor gives and how to go about implementing them is invaluable, and can easily be applied not just by those searching for web developer job interviews but also in other professions as well. Please, go ahead and have your take! Thanks.

This course clears up a lot of confusions/concerns I have had starting to look for work as a web dev. He provides a great structure for the process of what to do, how to keep track, and press forward when job hunting. I certainly would recommend this course to anyone unsure of which direction to go when starting to look for work as a web developer, his structure and advice is right on and undoubtedly it will help me in my future efforts. Thanks!

Great course with the right combination of brevity and insight. I regret not taking this course at the start of my job search process - instead I paid a lot more money for a career coach who gave a lot of the same information about job hunting. I'd recommend this course to anybody seeking to break into the industry and become a frontend developer. There's a lot of good advice for anybody trying to break into any industry truth be told!

Great course, it only took a few hours to complete. Zero fluff and I learned a few new things that I wasn't doing before. Plus... There were a couple of things that I always knew but up until now didn't understand how I could apply them to my circumstances. Kalob showed me how this could be done, and made it very obvious that they can be applied to a lot of other aspects of my life. This for me, really was a no nonsense approach to correcting a lot of bad behaviors which I have picked up in the past by "winging it". #preparation is key Well worth it

He got some really good points in this course. If you are a just starting out or a junior dev looking for more opportunities as a front end developer, then this course is for you. The course is super straight forward and I love how the instructor is extremely honest about all of his views on interviewing.

By Jeremy Mwangelwa on 2/28/2018

I've enjoyed this 2-hour course. I started last night and I got done tonight. But it needs to be practical and applicable, right? I listened to Kalob's advice. It seems reasonable. So, yesterday I made a list of 21 companies looking for web developer jobs in my town. I found that outside of HTML/CSS/JS, which is what every one will want, the most in-demand skills were jQuery (52%), Git (52%), PHP (48%) and Bootstrap (38%). I was surprised! If you Google PHP and whether one should learn it, the answers are usually negative. People out there say PHP is dying. Learn Node, learn Angular. But Node here is only wanted by 10% of the companies! Angular is at 33%! For the last year I've been working hard taking all kinds of courses to learn to become a full stack developer. I was planning on learning Node and Angular. But I got so tired and overwhelmed. I was also planning on learning MongoDB. After a while, all this becomes overwhelming. So, I cried out to God to help me because I was feeling lost. So, I believe He answered with Kalob. Now, I'm focused and I know exactly what skills I should be working on. Also, the nice part is that I've been doing a lot of PHP lately because I was building a web site for our church. I had to learn MySQL, PHP, and databases. All the while, in the back of my head I was feeling like I'm learning a dying skill. I also had to improve my PHP skills to work with Wordpres custom themes. But now I'm so glad that PHP is demanded skill where I live and I feel quite comfortable with it! I also realized that I have taken so many courses already so I have some projects under my belt. So, this morning I went and found most of the courses I've done and uploaded them to GitHub (jeremycoder). There were a lot more there than I expected. So, now I'm going to continue my list and try to get to 50 and see what the picture is like. My goal is to apply to all of them as Kalob said. I feel a lot more relaxed now because I don't have to wonder which courses I should take. But, the ultimate goal is to get a job. So, I hope I can come back here and share my experience. So far, it's true what Kalob said. You can't believe everything said online. PHP might be dying where some people live but where I live, it's still needed. I can't wait till I finish the list, create a portfolio site, create a resume, and start applying. Thanks Kalob! Let me know if I can improve my GitHub account (jeremycoder) could use an improvement. God bless you!
