Ed Foychuk

Hi guys! I'm Ed Foychuk, and I've been a professional illustrator for decades now. Most of my adult life I was based in Asia, so a lot of the work I have from that period is of an animation style. I did however grow up on Canada, so western comic books are definitely my foundation.

I've got a background in Education and Strength Training, and always wondered how I'd combine all of my passions and worlds... and then Udemy came on the scene! I love creating courses for you, my students. I've got 20 so far, and dad jokes aside, I think my passion shines through. My specialties are in breaking down subjects, understanding structures, Anatomy, and story telling.

At 20+ courses published on this site, I've gained a lot of experience. I've learned so much from my students, and really appreciate all of the feedback and support given.

I love working as a freelance illustrator and instructor. It's opened up so many possibilities in my life, and I want to share that all with you.

I have been interested in designing characters for games, animation and comics. When I saw this course I thought I would give this a chance. And let me tell you, it is worth my time with this course. I would like to take the time to thank the instructor for teaching me with every lesson in this course. If you are interested in learning designing characters for games, animation and comics then I recommend this course.

Topics are covered in very simple terms for this course. Teacher is well skilled and he keeps things simple, which is good for beginners. But for all essential topics you'll need to learn designing something, are covered in divided courses: anatomy, face, posing. It feels not good on Udemy which is a platform that there are 100+hr courses. Be aware of this before buying a course from him.

Ed's Creating Characters course brings a simplified approach to making the characters that we all can envision, but can't quite put on paper without some sort of "Aha!" moment or point of reference. He brings concepts of the how why and other key questions in making your character and what it takes to make a fully fleshed out creation. Highly recommended if you want to go with an approach that is methodical and holistic at the same time.

Thanks so much for this beautiful course, Ed! I've always felt like my designs are "incomplete", mainly because I don't have a process/guide I can follow from ideation to production. With this course, I'm more confident in knowing which aspects I need to focus more on to make my characters have more depth in them. This course is well-paced, substantial, and organized. I can't wait to apply these lessons to my designs!

This was a well-rounded course that emphasized YOU. The creator may have his style, but he makes sure that you can come up with the style of your own volition. My favorite sections were simplified skeletons and simplified anatomy.

The course was really great. Helped me a lot in designing characters from imagination. The theory and the practical sessions were really great, was able to create some very rough characters from imagination. Though struggling a little about the clothing. My favourite content was the "origin story". Thank you ED for this great course content, though not very big courses out there it covered everything to the point, from a lame man's point of view.

Another excellent course from Ed. Lots of informative guidance, detail and advise. Good supply of resources for practice too. Highly recommended for people looking for direction on where to start designing characters.

Ed teaches what to do and why to do it when creating characters. There's no guesswork as everything is laid out for you, just like it's supposed to be. I can now make a character from start to finish without feeling like I've left something out. Great course.

I really enjoyed going through. I very much am the kind of person who prefers an overview first before building on top of that. This gave me lots of ideas to work with and now I can start putting my characters together. Thank you for the course, I really enjoyed it. Now to your next one!
