Ed Foychuk

Hi guys! I'm Ed Foychuk, and I've been a professional illustrator for decades now. Most of my adult life I was based in Asia, so a lot of the work I have from that period is of an animation style. I did however grow up on Canada, so western comic books are definitely my foundation.

I've got a background in Education and Strength Training, and always wondered how I'd combine all of my passions and worlds... and then Udemy came on the scene! I love creating courses for you, my students. I've got 20 so far, and dad jokes aside, I think my passion shines through. My specialties are in breaking down subjects, understanding structures, Anatomy, and story telling.

At 20+ courses published on this site, I've gained a lot of experience. I've learned so much from my students, and really appreciate all of the feedback and support given.

I love working as a freelance illustrator and instructor. It's opened up so many possibilities in my life, and I want to share that all with you.

I've recently (re-)discovered the importance of finding your own way, while learning various instructors. No course is really going to be the comprehensive panacea we seek as beginners. But, especially in art, it's so important to take the climb onto the shoulders of teachers who are capable of waving you on in your path. I appreciate Ed's style of teaching and desire to pass on what he knows. This course definitely marks a milestone in my development in that it demonstrates to me that the practicality of what we learn is as important as the knowledge of fundamentals.

Pozdrawiam T.

This is the third course I've bought from Ed Foychuk. As always, Ed does an awesome job simplifying his lessons in such a way that they can help the absolute beginner hit the ground running. The teaching style is light-hearted, by straight to the point, not wasting any time with a bunch of boring information that doesn't help with understanding the techniques. My drawings have improved dramatically with Ed's courses, and I'm looking forward to checking out the rest!

I’m a homeschooling dad, and we use all KINDS of online resources for education, but Ed’s drawing courses are one of our absolute favorites! He’s entertaining and easy to watch, but even more importantly, ALL of our drawing skills have improved immensely. Everything is well thought out, the resources he provides to work with are awesome (we just slap all of them into layers on Procreate!), so you really can’t go wrong with Ed’s stuff, it’s all fabulous! Best of luck on your drawing journey!

Another great course by Ed here. Drawing heads and faces is something I have always struggled with, and is arguably the most important aspect of the figure. The tips and exercises in this course helped immensely. Drawing over photos is an interesting method to understand the structure of the head and also to mentally dissect what you are seeing. It's funny, every time I draw a nose now I always think "draw three circles". Thanks Ed!

This course and teacher is absolutely amazing! The homework that he gives you is also crucial. It’s explained that the importance of learning to draw is to learn from real life and he shows you exactly how to do that so you can do it on your own after you’re done watching the video rather than only learning while watching the video. As long as you do your homework, you should see incredible improvement. Thank you for releasing this course. Looking forward to learning more from you.

Ed has helped me since day one. And this one really helped me understand the human head female and male and all angels. Now a little bit about Ed first and foremost he cares and will help you and show the way you need to go to reach your goal in this art class. I know because he helped me. For those who may not understand his method is universal can be used with the Loomis method and still have the 3 sections its looked at differently all styles use the same path and its easier than the Loomis method. If the Loomis method does confuse you then try this. and he does update and so do I when he adds let me say you get more than your moneys worth because has Ed gets better so do you and plus if you need help he will help thanks so much Ed

I found this course more helpful than in person classes I've taken in the past, and loved how in depth it went on faces - not just what we see, but the muscles and skull, too. The narration throughout the course keeps it interesting as well as providing extra guidance. The only thing that I would have anything negative to say about was that in some lectures I felt we were given less guidance - for instance, the hair lecture. Less guidance isn't always bad, but in this case (I'm terrible at hair) I felt that I didn't grow very much in that area. Overall, I would definitely take more courses in the future from Foychuk. P.S. I was following along on paper throughout the lessons and despite early concerns that Foychuk was drawing digitally, the lessons work just as well on paper.
