Course Description
In this course you will learn how to draw : in 10 exercises, you will learn the most important skills that you can use to draw anything. From there, you will have a foundation on which to build a lifetime of drawing.
If you think you can't draw, or you don't know how to draw; if you've never even drawn anything before, or if you'd love to get better at drawing, then this course teaches you how to confidently and consistently draw anything.
You will learn how to draw : learn pencil drawing : learn still life : learn figure drawing !
This course focuses on a set of 10 drawing exercises. These are divided into 3 sections.
The first section is all about seeing shapes - I teach you how to tune into what’s called a drawing mode, and see complex things in terms of their shape, instead of the way you would normally see them.
The second section is about seeing relationships of size between shapes. You’ll learn about rules of perspective and I teach you how to use the artists' method of sighting in your drawing.
The last section teaches you about form. For me, form means the whole thing, and the exercises in this section are aimed and giving you an understanding of how to bring your drawing from being flat 2 d rendering to a fully finished drawing of substance.
My approach to teaching drawing doesn't focus on showing you how to draw one thing really well; you won't learn how to draw a specific thing like a nose, or eyes, for example. In fact, my main goal isn't really to teach to draw. Instead I teach you how to observe. "Drawing is Seeing" - Edgar Degas. This is the most important insight to have when it comes to learning how to draw. In order to draw anything, you need to be able to observe correctly. Only then will shapes, edges, size, shading, weight, space all make sense within your understanding of drawing, and what drawing is. With this knowledge you can build your own drawing skill yourself.
And that way, you have the chance to really bring something unique and valuable into the world: your very own vision and expression through drawing.
I’m a figure drawing instructor, artist and animation professional with close to 20 years experience making drawings as a professional, and in my personal drawing practice. Drawing is my passion - it’s something I think about every day and it’s something I’ve been thinking about how to teach other people. This course distills everything I know about how to lay a solid foundation for drawing. I believe that being able to draw in a way that is natural to you and in a way that will prove consistent t no matter what it is that you draw, has the power to completely change things in your life for a very simple and often overlooked reason: the right way to learn how to draw allows you to express yourself. That can't be undervalued.
If you can draw, then wherever you are no matter what, once you have something to draw with, and something to draw on, then you can be an artist. That is all it takes. You don’t need anything else. But even if you don’t necessarily want to be an artist, learning to draw is a deeply creative endeavour that helps you to see the world differently and naturally feeds into all aspects of your other work.

This course is so eye opening. I never could have thought I could draw yet this class changed that. I always want to get into background art for gaming (bought her class), but don’t know where to start. This class serve as a foundation for everything I want to pursue. Thank you so much for showing me how to draw properly and naturally.

This course was excellent, if you never knew how to start drawing or how to improve your art, Shiobhan gives you lots of tips and easy to follow steps that will really enhance your way of drawing right away, I always loved drawing but I never had any fundamentals, mostly I was a bit messy with my drawings, but now I got plenty of different ways and approaches that I can put into practice that make my drawings look better :D

I got most of her classes and while I may only have just started, I can already tell my drawing has vastly improved over just the starting things such as using the egg for body, hips and lining everything up. It's truly marvelous. Her classes should be the first stop for everyone.

Its a great course for teaching you how to learn drawing and giving you a foundation to build upon. If you come in here expecting to finish a 2h course and suddenly be transformed to a good or even half decent artist, you will be surely disappointed. Its lays the foundation as stated by the title and you will have to use the foundation to improve yourself. As a person who is absolute garbage at drawing, I can say that I have improved by a margin but definitely not to a decent level, but I can see there is a path that was built to being a decent artist but its up to me to practice and use the techniques she has taught me. She is also a very good and understanding teacher. It might be that compared to other popular courses, this does not have much student but due to this, you can ensured that she is always contactable for assistance, and will ensure that after every lesson, she will be available to answer your questions and doubts.

Still great; coming along well, and still learning. The only art training I've had before this, was in secondary school. I loved it and always got "A" grades. Then, as an adult, I've stopped drawing, and art in general. I am hoping to re-spark the passion for it, in this class.

The course is a good match for me so far. I started reading The Natural Way to Draw book by Nicolaides & found out a lot of the why drawing wasn't enjoyable like it was as a child & probably a lot of the reason I stopped drawing. This course so far seems to take the same approach as the book which is what I was after. The book has a pretty rigorous schedule that I would not be able to follow all the way through so I'm using this course to replace some of that & get me going.

I'm about half way through the course. The exercise and instructions are excellent and I feel like I've already come a long ways. The instructor's responses to my questions have helped enormously. Highly recommend this course.

I loved this course so much! Siobhan is a really good teacher. The course gives some strong basics to beginners. I could not believe the sketches and drawings I was able to create after only a few hours of practice.

I was pretty tensed about this drawing course. Siobhan's explanation about how drawing is perceived broke my false idea about it. The left brain vs right brain theory is new to me as well and made so much sense. Feeling quite at ease right now. Hopefully I will improve by the time I finish this course.

This is an excellent introduction to classic drawing techniques. It is presented in a friendly and encouraging manner and the exercises are manageable and well structured and explained. Thoroughly enjoying working through this course. Also a good refresher to start drawing again after an extended break.
