Course Description

What are we building?

In this course, you will learn how to build an MVP version of Instagram with strictly Swift UI using the MVVM architecture. This is the only course on the market that builds a fully functioning app as complex as Instagram using nothing but SwiftUI. We will be building this completely from scratch, starting with the User Interface skeleton, and working our way up to integrating our API with Firestore and data models. This course WILL take your development skills to the next level, using the latest and greatest techniques in modern programming.

We will be building all the core components of a social network. This includes following users, uploading/liking posts, a notification system, creating a user profile, and registering users. Throughout the process, you will develop high level programming, app design and app development skills.  We will be building this without the use of storyboards, fully programmatically.

Prior Experience?

Some programming and basic Xcode experience is preferred. The course will move a little fast if you're a complete beginner, but you will pick things up along the way.

Why take this course?

Learning advanced development skills should be taught using real world examples. This course will teach you how to build a fully functional social network, from complete scratch. You will be learning advanced front and backend development skills, from a real life professional developer. You will learn how to code like a pro, and everything will be explained in detail along the way. This will teach you to build production ready applications, that are easily scalable and maintainable. This also makes for a great project to add to your portfolio, which you can use to show off to potential employers if you're trying to become a pro.

I liked working on the Instagram Swift UI App with Stephan. He explained most of the concepts and the code pretty well. The App seemed to cover most features of Instagram as the Search, The Upload Profile and The Notifications. I liked the coverage of topics in the course. Only, Stephan changed his monitor, toward the end of the App, so couldn't view the code well. I look forward to working on more Swift UI Apps with Stephan in the future.

A great course, with really great explainations and deep dives into concepts. The lack of GitHub repository was a little dissapointing, because sometimes you get stuck and want a hard copy to compare to. There were downloads throughout the course available, however it did not show you the full picture as it was code snippets for sections. All in all, a great course and I would highly recommend it to anyone wanting to get their hands dirty with SwiftUI or wanting a brush up on MVVM. Stephan really knows his stuff, and has a great way of teaching it.

Overall, the course was great for learning how to interact with Firebase Firestore. However, it would be even better if the instructor removed some of the unnecessary sections such as spending time on figuring out bugs. Although it's useful to see how the instructor approaches fixing issues, the course would be more effective if the videos were more closely aligned with the course content.

Loved this course, Stephan! Great personality and content. As an experienced iOS developer, I wasn't sure how much I would get out of this course, but I picked up a lot of new tips and tricks. Really useful for learning fundamentals of SwiftUI, MVVM, and using firebase database/storage. Thanks for putting this together!

Amazing course! Great explanations and thorough code! It helped me learn everything I needed to know in order to code in Swift and build a social site.

Four stars only for a pretty big application in a new technology (Swift UI). The instructor puts off explaining the code for later or doesn't explain it enough, he also burps (seriously), and I am sick of the fact that he keeps advertising the "complete source code" to buy on his website. An UltraWide monitor may be good for him, but because of it I can't see much on my MacBook screen.

By Eduardo L on 5/2/2021

I knocked a star off from five down to four stars. Here’s Why: What's good about it? 1) The app clone itself is a good idea, everyone will know Instagram and it has good features that are fairly omnipresent in many apps these days. 2) Instructor doesn’t beef up lessons with loads of repetition and bloat for the sake of having a long running course. What could be better? / Why I knocked a star off: 1. Biggest gripe. 3/4 of the way through Stephan has purchased a new widescreen monitor. Suddenly you can't see the code / text on the screen even in full screen mode on a 15" MBP. The widescreen format does not work well for the Udemy video player and he should have used a far larger font size. It looks like he hasn’t checked the format after buying a new monitor and this is detrimental to the overall quality of the course. 2. The repeated reminder of the monetisation / paid source code was perhaps a little too regular to avoid registering a slight annoyance, but hey, it IS the guys business so no biggie I suppose. 3. A couple of throwaway features (NavLink to user name) being behind the paywall felt a little bit cheap to be honest. 4. There's a fair bit of belching and the odd f-bomb in the lectures. I'm sure some folk would gripe at that so while it's not problematic for me, it could easily have been avoided and kept a ‘better’ professional edge. 5. Sometimes the explanations felt a bit convoluted or not fully thought out. 6. Note the app you will build is not responsive to screen orientation. That feels a little bit amateur these days as you’d expect layouts to handle the landscape format. 7. Dark mode, it’s on of the big UI topics these days and isn’t featured. Summary: Overall there’s nothing to warn anyone away from buying this course, just a few niggles that stop it from being in the elite of Udemy courses/tutors for comprehensive coverage such as Stephen Grider or Max Shwartzmueller who are taking you to the stage of production ready apps without additional monetisation via courses outside of Udemy. I have bought another course from Stephan. The only deal breaker would be the widescreen monitor and code/explorer font sizes in future courses.

I'm two thirds into the course, I'm going to learn a lot! I was an intermediate "learner" going into this. I was most interested in the MVVM pattern and how he'd solve the View Models. And I learned a lot from this. The instructor is very engaged and explains things reallt well. (He does use some words a lot. Like "guys", but it's a very small thing. I recommend the course! I will be able to write my own first proper app after this (and I can't wait)

Stephan is one of THE best instructors I've come across when it comes to SwiftUI. He explains everything and the explanations make complete sense. He doesn't go too fast leaving you typing at a furious rate to keep up. The pace is perfect. From what I have watched so far, the project hasn't become bloated either. It's concise and to the point which helps you think about how you can apply things to your own ideas.

Great course. Its his second SwiftUI course. I did all his UIKit course which were all ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. His twitter course was a Four ⭐️ but it was his first SwiftUI course. The course is great but it is not a course where they teach you swift. If you know swift with anything else this course could be down in a couple days on 1.75 speed. Im experiences so it worked great for my skill level. Especially the backend with firebase. I think he literally is the best when it comes to that and thats what i really needed. He uses SPM to add Firebase also, which is great. Again not for beginner beginners. Meaning If you never coded before in general, id take a swift basics course first...
