Course Description
Understand the Fundamentals of Welding—Fast.
If you're a manufacturing engineer, production supervisor, industrial engineer, quality technician, or plant manager who works near welding—but never received formal training—this course is for you.
You don’t need to become a certified welder. But you do need to understand how welding processes work, why they matter, and how they impact your production goals, quality standards, and safety responsibilities.
This course gives you the foundational knowledge you need—clearly, quickly, and without overwhelming technical jargon.
What You'll Learn
In just 2.5 hours, you'll build a solid understanding of:
The major types of welding and where they are used
Core welding concepts (like why "oxygen is not our friend")
Critical safety principles for welding environments including the basics of fire prevention, burn prevention, inhalation risks, short- and long-term health effects, extraction equipment, PPE, UV rays, types of eye protection, and more.
Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), also called "Stick Welding"
Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), commonly known as "MIG Welding"
Flux Core Arc Welding (FCAW)
Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), also known as "TIG Welding"
Submerged Arc Welding (SAW)
Whether you're writing work instructions, managing welders, inspecting welds, or improving upstream/downstream processes, this course will help you speak the language of welding and make more informed decisions.

I am a Quality Engineer woprking for other things than welding, and I found this course quite helpful and easily understandable. The lecturer's language is easy to track, and I feel that I have gained the essential knowledge on welding process. My reccommendation would be that the slides could be in a better-structured visually for both images and texts. Some images were not quite easy to understand (such as the b&w ones). More actual photos of each process could help. Some videos could help a lot for us to comprehend what the process looks like. Exam was only after the first section, SMAW, and I believe it would be helpful to have it after each. Other than these, I loved the AI Assisstant provided by Udemy which worked well and helped a lot.

As always I like the way Gary condenses knowledge and delivers it to learners in a way which is easy to grasp the fundamentals.

Its good for a first step, would be nice to have more examples of when to use the different processes, specifically looking at the FCAW and GMAW. Neverthless its a good first basis

I've learned a lot more about welding and the process and have a better understanding of what's happening then just being a welder without understanding. I did not realize that there is a lot to welding then i thought but i most certainly have learned a whole lot more then i expected. Thank you

Garry is a great instructor! The guy knows his craft and frankly sounds just like the average cool neighbour next door. He is funny and down to earth. Thanks Garry, I am learning lots from you and I’ll be taking more courses from you.

the course has been a very interesting one, with much clear explanations which leads to better understanding, safety knowledge about welding is equally a big advantage within the time of this lesson. thanks

Some repetitious detail and a bit choppy at some points, but overall it seemed like a good overview. Since I know nothing about welding, I learned a lot of good information.
By David Bramwell on 1/9/2024
Is good infoirmation but seems to jump from topic to topic then back to previous topics a bit. Could maybe try to bunch everything together so that the explanation of the processes are with the processes themselves.
