Java 11 For Complete Beginners (Udemy.com)

Bravo, Mr.Purcell did a wonderful job in creating a course about Java 11, containing all the love for bits and bytes. Formidable course in a sense, which honors any dedication to computer science. I only can think of three flaws in this superb course and I do mention them in the same spirit. 1. The file writing section wasn't structured enough. 2. The MIDI example needs refactoring, because it needs a sequencer, to work properly. 3. The section about generics must be crystal clear and comprehensive because it serves as a strong foundation for later sections and topics. It was good, but not perfect, imho. This is probably the best Java Course on Udemy up to this day. Thanks a lot.

This course was a truly good choice to start learning Java. I am a complete begginer but John makes the lessons easy to understand repeating the content and focusing in what's more important. I recommend this course to anyone who wants to start learning Java for the first time.

What can I say, it's a great course, John has a good voice and a nice sense of humour, the course is perfectly fine for beginners (I was one when I began it), took me about 1.5 months to get through it all doing all exercises, not rushing through if I didn't understand a subject, usually doing 3hours per day after work. Already got the Advanced course John made, because I enjoyed how he explained things.

As for person who had no previous experience in programming or knowledge about programming at all, i like this course. It is easy to understand, especially at the beginning. Sound and video quality where perfect. John is very good in explaining complicated stuff in a simple way, i had only few videos where i wish i had more explanation of the logic behind. If you are complete beginner like me, this course will make you love programming and give motivation to learn further. Thank you John Purcell.

It's an excellent course! It really is. I've learn so much theoretical but also practical knowledge. He's an excellent teacher and I would recommend this course to anyone who wants to learn Java. I've done half of the course already alongside with lots of practice from each video and I'm starting to feel comfortable writing basic programs.

This is a good match. The course doesn't have any quizzes or tests of code you're learning, which I'm used to from other courses (and find value in). However, the teacher is moving along at a good pace for me and I'm absorbing the material by taking the time to write all the code he demonstrates.

This course is interesting for beginner java programmers and provides a good basement. It is however regrettable that certain important subjects such as lambdas introduced by java 8 or modules by java 9 are not sufficiently explained. In wanting to do a general and complete training, we find ourselves not dealing sufficiently with certain essential points in depth (yes of course, this would have multiplied the duration of this course anyway). It is, however, a pity.

The only Java course you will need if you are a complete beginner! I took John's previous Java Tutorial for complete beginners before I bought this course. This is a revised and COMPLETE version and you will have all the basic syntax and understanding that you will need if you wanna move on to something advanced like Data Structures and algorithms. The way John teaches is very practical, no power point slides, not much theory, no copy paste code and will actually implement the code and solution so the student can easily catch up. I like this style of teaching, very engaging and not boring. The only con I can think of is I CANNOT enjoy other courses taught by different instructors anymore as I've been spoiled to his style of teaching, pure technical and none of the BORING stuff. Highly recommended and if you took this course seriously, by the time you're done, with a little more practice, you will have a very GOOD shot at being a junior java developer.

Many Udemy courses I've seen focus on the step-by-step, which is fine, but it's rare to find an instructor that's thoughtful enough to elaborate on the why's (underlying concepts). The inherent flaw with a step-by-step approach is that if you miss a step or in the case of software, something doesn't quite "jive" at a technical level, the student is lost because he/she does not understand yet how to fill in that gap because he/she lacks conceptual understanding. Mr. Purcell is considerate enough to divulge as much as he can from his experience to bridge many of these gaps and his sincerity is evident.

John delivers information in an easy way with tons of examples, so you can understand whats the purpose of using it. Amazing content, no regrets after buying it. I was so inspired, so I bought another course "Advanced Java" by John.
