Lawrence M. Miller

Larry Miller is now teaching eighteen courses with more than 400,000 students in 210 countries on Udemy.  He is the author of eleven books, and has more than forty years of experience consulting with major corporations on their business performance, culture and management systems. Several of his courses on management and leadership are best selling courses in their category and have been adopted by major corporations as part of their leadership development and lean culture implementation process.

His expertise is derived from hands on experience creating change in the culture of more than a hundred organizations. Among his consulting clients have been Honda, Corning, Shell Oil Company, Amoco and Texaco,  Air Canada,  Eastman Chemicals, Xerox, Harris Corporation,  Chick-fil-A, Merck and Upjohn Pharmaceuticals, United Technologies, Metropolitan Life and Landmark Communications.

He began his work in youth prisons after recognizing that the learning system in the organization had exactly the opposite of its intended effect – increasing, rather than decreasing, dysfunctional behavior. For four years he worked to redesign the prison system by establishing the first free- economy behind prison walls, where each inmate had to earn points, maintain a checking account, pay rent and pay for everything he desired. It resulted in measurable improvements in behavior. This was his first organizational transformation.

LOVED this course! This should be required for all managers. Too often we see management by catch-phrase. And leadership takes backseat to spreadsheet. The historical elements sprinkled throughout the presentation really helped illustrate the principles covered.

A refreshingly honest and practical course that brings leadership back to its essence. Larry gets straight to the point – no buzzwords, no nonsense. It’s all about real leadership, clear principles, and the common sense that often gets lost in modern management trends. Back to simplicity and the core of what leadership truly means. Highly recommended!

This is so far, one of the most practical and uplifting leadership seminars I have ever listened to and it has already helped me have the courage to lead as God as given me the ability in my personality. I don't have to be great at everything just be great at something and get off the sidelines.

In the early stages of the course, the professor asks us each to evaluate our style of leadership and where the company is on the life cycle. There are aspects of all stages of the life cycle in many companies and getting hit with the negatives of a mature company up front without the later context of the positives, was disheartening. I persevered with the lecture and eventually found the positives. I do think though, that the course could be a bit more efficient in timing if the positives and negatives are brought up front with a more concise synthesis of the context. The last part of the lecture on transformational change was worth the wait.

I thought the course was well done and very much enjoyed all the historical ties. I hadn't really thought about business structure in the way that this course presented and it was eye opening to how companies I've worked for and with fall within these different categories.

Another phenomenal course hosted by Lawrence M. Miller. His dedication displayed at his course exemplifies his experience and years of investigation well spend it. I truly recommend this certification 100% for all starter managers and leaders looking to get the experience and knowledge to perform better at their position.

One of the best courses on leadership and organization, short and sweet, eloquent delivery, new perspective of organization's growth and decline lifecycle, great pointers on how a leader can arrest and reverse the decline. Respect to the sensei.

The depth of Larry Miller's knowledge, and analogies to history. e.g The Alexander the Great, story how he made the top Persian general his generals. How Alexander wore Persian attire as a form of integration himself into the conquered people to integrate himself into the culture.

A few years ago, I asked Larry for an online update of his best-seller - Barbarians to Bureaucrats. He has delivered beyond my expectation. The new renewal additions give a valuable overview of whole systems architecture and team issues at various levels of the organization.

I felt like reading the article associated made the majority of the training redundant. Also there were a lot of anecdotes, and on the whole I think the whole thing could have been a bit more brief.
