Siobhan Twomey

My background spans the disciplines of drawing, painting, filmmaking and animation. I studied Film in Dublin, and spent a semester on a scholarship at the Tisch School of the Arts, NYU in New York. I later studied drawing and animation. Since 2005, I have worked in studios in Vancouver and Dublin as a professional Background Designer and Environment Artist. I've also worked as a storyboard artist, concept artist, and I have directed a number of short animated films.

All in all, I've worked for over 15 years as an Artist, Illustrator and Animation Professional. I've provided artwork for studios whose clients include Disney UK, Sony Pictures Animation, HMH Publishing, to name a few.

I also have an ongoing painting and drawing practice, and I paint portraits on commission, and exhibit my work in galleries. My passion is to teach others the whole spectrum of art skills that I've learned and developed over the course of my career.

I like how articulate the instructor is. I think her reasons for making this course are very sound and I am excited to try the techniques and ways of thinking she will introduce.

The teacher has a lovely, clear, and encouraging way of teaching, but as an intermediate level artist I didn’t find too much new to learn from this class. It would be great for a beginner and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to others. In hindsight, I should rather have tried her figure drawing class because I am looking for more explicit tips/instruction than can be found in this one.

This is the 3rd course I've taken from Siobhan. I've been struggling with gesture drawing, but by following the techniques this artist demonstrates, Siobhan encourages and enables you to find and explore your own unique way of drawing.

The instructor is naming all of the things I am interested in - hearing and finding my artistic voice, observing and capturing the energy, just to name a few!

Advertised as beginner level, but I can't see how someone with zero knowledge of drawing can follow along. The instructor makes a few scribbles and creates some amazing works as a result, but is unable to convey the technique behind the scribbles. If you follow this instructor on youtube and was hoping the course would offer some more detailed instruction, you'll be disappointed.

Second course from Siobhan i am taking. Once again, her explanations dimistifys drawing in general. It makes us grow as artists and calms some of our fears, at least mine. Very helpful in my case. Just finished the course :) I have to say that you are now best best freind ever. On top of making me better understand the, thinking or philosophy behind gesture and figure drawing, you have converted me to charcoal and i love it. Thanks you very much.
