Course Description

IMPORTANT NOTICE:

This is a course for learning the Qt Framework. It was commissioned by Felgo, an official Qt Technology Partner.

Learn all the basic concepts, tools, and functions that you need to build fully functional cross platform apps using Qt, QML and Felgo.

Felgo is an extension for Qt that allows you to build fully functional cross platform applications on Android, iOS, Windows, Mac Linux and Embedded Linux using a single code base, with increased efficiency than the plain Qt framework.

This course will show you how to create ‘Property Cross’, an application that taps into an API on the web to download available real estates to buy nearby.

Via this one app, you will learn everything you need to know about creating apps. User interfaces, web API calls, programmatic events and more!

Build a Strong Foundation in QML and Qt with this Course for Beginners

  • Learn how to use QML to create desktop and mobile apps in ultra fast time

  • Understand how to structure a Qt application correctly

  • Learn the Qt Framework

  • Discover how to make asynchronous requests to a server without slowing down your app

  • Display asynchronously downloaded images in a single line of code

  • Create infinite scrolling lists of real estates

  • Save favourite real estates

  • Learn about app navigation basics

  • Create fully functional apps using 10 times less code than other frameworks!

  • And so much more!

A Rapid Prototyping Technology Awaits

Learning the fundamentals of Felgo places a powerful and useful tool at your fingertips. It comes with many tools and features that native mobile developers don’t have immediate access to, including the ability to download asynchronous images without plugins!

In fact, Qt and QML are used by over a million developers worldwide. Chances are extremely high that you've used software built in Qt. VLC is but one of the well known examples.

Content and Overview

This course is suitable for beginner to intermediate programmers (although you should have some experience in any programming language prior to starting).

Throughout our time together we’ll create ‘Property Cross’, a fully fledged property search app that shows you real estates at a chosen location. What’s more it also allows you to browse based on location of your device as well as saving your favourite real estates!

Along the way you’ll learn most of the Qt and QML fundamentals that you need in order to become a fully fledged cross platform developer.

How You’ll Proceed

Starting with the installation of Felgo (and the free Qt Creator IDE), this course will take you through creating fluid interfaces using the powerful yet simple QML language.

After mastering the basics you’ll learn how to do essentials such as listening to events and responding to button clicks.

Following that we’ll deep dive into how you should correctly structure an application in terms of fetching internet data and relaying signals to the main view. This knowledge will benefit you immensely as it is useful across all software development frameworks - not just Qt and QML.

You’ll also learn another fundamental - an infinite scrolling list of data. You’ll learn how to show rows of images, text and more as well as allowing users to click through to a new page and see the details of a chosen property.

During this journey you’ll gain a thorough understanding of how mobile apps are constructed - an extremely useful skill that can be transposed to any other development framework, in any other programming language.

On completion you’ll be able to create your own fully fledged cross platform apps ready to publish on any popular platform!

I look forward to working with you!

Yes. There are some disconnects; namely, there are only three templates in Felgo Apps, by default, and none of them match the V-Play template name that the course mentions. Why not put another correction before this lecture, or redo the lecture?

Needs updating for the latest version and re-brand (now Felgo). Unfortunately, the API of this project produces a 404 for me, even when I run the finished code from the app demo folder. I would prefer that course's comment section were enabled, so at least another student has opportunity to answer why something is not working, even if the developer is not able to so. I've studied other Udemy courses where this interaction proves very useful in gaining understanding.

This is new experience for me. I tried to enhance my skill set using this course for my future developments. I like the tutor gives the explanation very well and easy to understand.

Cours tres complet, vraiment merci ... 4 etoiles parceque je trouve personnellement que parfois ca allait trop vite, mais ce n'est qu'un avis personnel. Pour le contenu, bravo... Seulement dommage que l'API ne fonctionne plus ...

Solid course. Thank you. A few hickups as if the course was prepared somewhat in a hurry. However, considering that it was just an introductory course, I am happy with it. I would prefer a longer course though (for my needs).

The "highest" video quality available (720) is quite low. The video is a somewhat confusing as it is using an old version of the software "vplay". There are many references to libraries to that old version and it takes time to figure out how to tailor it to "Felgo"; the new version.

By Tom-Inge Nilsen on 4/30/2019

Great course, but it should be updated to reflect the changes from Vplay to Felgo. All the source code should be published, so one can check for typos and other logical errors.

By Junaid Siddiqui on 4/9/2019

Awesome Course, but could have included some more details. (Though not required as both felgo and qt have a pretty good documentation) I wish the author decides to make a course on using felgo (vplay) for android games.

This is a good introduction into the use of v-play, qt, qml and javascript to develop solutions for all platforms. Instructor was straight to the point in explaining the concepts of the course and in scenarios where a deep dive was not necessary he was quick to clarify. Would look forward to more courses from instructor in this space and probably more real world applications being showcased. Overall, the course was worth the spend.

By Ruedi Aschwanden on 2/2/2019

Very good introduction to V-Play and Qt. I think the course was both time and money well spent. Initially, I was leery about what I thought to be an outdated version of Qt Creator being mentioned, but that never became an issue. I'm guessing the lessons are version independent, and each lesson has enough meat on the bone for making the student familiar with important concepts of V-Play. Even the typos (and how they are being corrected) are fun (and have some educational value in showing how things might be tied together over multiple configuration files). After completing the course, I have a sense that I received enough practical advice to have a starting point for turning my own ideas into reality. I'll probably watch some parts of the course again to review, extract and adapt some of the approaches presented. About the only thing that could be improved would be providing beginners with more guidance for what to define in which file (in some examples, I thought "hmm, shouldn't that be defined somewhere else" to maintain a better separation of concepts). There seems to be quite a bit risk that page (as part of navigation), model (data structure), logic, and appearance (styles) could be defined in locations that create an inelegant and difficult to maintain code base. But then again, as a beginner'c course, it's more than good enough to become familiar with the core ideas of what is presented. The course gave me the feeling similar to be watching over someone's shoulder while they work.
