These videos are extremely slick with clear, confident presentation, music and 'effects'. The artist is highly technically accomplished and I enjoyed watching the demonstrations as an educational experience showing what is possible in the medium. However the subjects and techniques used are too intricate and complex for anyone who is not already advanced to attempt themselves so, although I am not a beginner, I did not find them of practical value.

Very interesting mixed media technique. I have only listened to the lessons but have not done anything yet. I will look at the start again when you showed how to transfer the lines or photo on the watercolour paper. And then try to use the pen & ink fine lines. Thanks for the very inspiring lessons. I hope I can make something nice with this technique. Thanks.

I found Matt on Youtube. I like to follow structured lessons and this course takes me through the process. So far, I am impressed. I continue to be encouraged. I have lots of practice ahead of me, but actually doing the exercises and re-visiting them many times helps to cement the concepts. Learning terminology is also helpful. I did find all the exercises very challenging, but I understand that the only way to get better is to keep practicing. Matt makes it look easy, but an investment of time is necessary and I have picked up lots from this course.

I haven't completed all of the various exercises but I found this course both challenging and fun. The instructor, Matt, is very good at explaining each concept and is easy enough to follow. I like to go through a section and glean the concepts and then go back and try the activities that go with that section.

Matthew Fussell is indeed a remarkable artist and instructor. He definitely knows his subject matter and has the ability to impart this knowledge to others, even to a beginner like me. He speaks very well and is very methodical in his presentation. He wasted no time by keeping the course content and lectures focused on the subject matter. I learned so much in just the first two short lessons. The presenting artist explains concepts very well, using terrific examples, and is pleasant to listen to. The production values of the videos are great, too. As I've advanced through the Basic Techniques section, my impression of the course has only gotten better! I highly recommend this course for people like me, with almost no experience in ink line drawing or watercolors.

This instructor communicates so clearly! He also had us explore diverse ways of doing line and wash whether pen and ink first or watercolor first and each assignment builds on the next until you find your beginner self doing things you never expected to do! My work will never look like his, but he got me hungry to try more on my own. And to me that's the sign of a good instructor.

Line and Wash is a recent interest of mine. I am really enjoying this course and, while the portraiture section will no doubt be a bit above my skill levels right now, it is inspiring and something to think about trying in the future. So nice that I can refer back to these lessons any time I want! Matt is very knowledgeable and easy to follow.

Very good, relaxing and educational course. I learned a lot of techniques you don't really learn just experimenting on your own. It does have a jump in skill required midway through, but since I have some experience with pen and ink it was ok for me. If you're a beginner you can still use what you learn to practice and improve.

This is a very good course but for one minor (hopefully constructive) criticism in that I feel there is too much of a leap from the initial lessons to the much more advanced and detailed nature of the still life and beyond. It is inspirational to me as I love pen and ink as well as watercolor, so to have both combined where the sum of the parts is greater than the whole, is a big bonus. I am not good with either discipline as a beginner but the tutor is great and clearly a gifted artist as well. There is much to recommend in this course.
