Course Description
Welcome to the Make a 2D Action Platformer in Unreal Engine 5 Course.
This course will teach you everything you need to know about Unreal Engine and Blueprint Visual Scripting to become able to make your own games!
Through teaching Unreal Engine on YouTube and also in person at a Japanese Game Dev school for the past couple of years I've gained an understanding of what students are really looking for and designed this course to teach you the process of making games with Unreal Engine.
By making a 2D Action Platformer like Mega Man you'll first learn how to import 2D Sprite Sheets and how to use them to create a character that feels fun to control!
We'll use the Enhanced Input System to bind actions such as moving, jumping and shooting to the keyboard and then update the character animations accordingly by using the PaperZD Animation Graph.
After that we'll implement the projectiles and shooting system for the player and also create a health and damage system that will be shared between the player and enemies and is created in a modular fashion.
We'll also add more and more abilities to the player such as a charge shot, Wall Jump and Ground Slide.
Not only will you learn how to implement these abilities using best practices, but you'll also learn the way of thinking and problem solving that is necessary to create similar abilities for your own games!
We'll also create 4 different enemy types that all have different AI behavior.
We'll handle things such as turning around when walking into a wall or before falling off a ledge, detecting if the player is close and chasing them and much more.
Lastly we'll look at how to build 2D stages using Tile Sets and Tile Maps and then put everything together we've learned so far to create a complete action platformer level!

Greetings, everyone!
I'm a professional Game Developer and Authorized Unreal Engine Instructor.
My passion for games and computers ignited at a young age, but I started to seriously get into Game Development in 2018 and have been using Unreal Engine on a daily basis since then.
Throughout my journey, I've had the privilege of working on various professional projects as a game programmer. Additionally, I took on the role of an Unreal Engine instructor at a Game Dev college in Japan. This invaluable experience has honed my understanding of the challenges learners face and the specific areas they seek guidance in.
In 2021 I started a YouTube Channel called 'Cobra Code' where I also teach about Unreal Engine and my main focus has been making 2D and 2D/3D Hybrid Games.
It brings me immense joy to witness the growth and success of my students as they embark on their own game development journeys.

I really enjoyed this course. The lessons are easy to understand, even for beginners like me, and the explanations are clear and easy to follow. I only wish the course had covered some additional elements beyond the core game mechanics, such as a game over screen, title screen, menus, etc. It would also have been great to learn how to add animations or cutscenes between the stages and at the end of the game. Overall, it was a very helpful course, and I would definitely love to see these additional features covered in a future course!

If you're new to game dev or are just doing this as a hobby this is a great place to start. It starts off a bit daunting but actually Cobra explains things in a way where after a while you understand what's going on, particularly with BPs. . You may find yourself after a while pausing the video before he says things to take your best educated guess at the answer (And feeling a sense of achievement when you got it mostly right lol). The course is longer than 13 hours because you'll find yourself lost at points and grappling with yourself to find where you went wrong, and when you do it's a great feeling. 10/10, loving this, and will be taking so much away from it in the future, I even plan to take inspo from bits and try to implement it in my own projects. Thankyou Cobra

Very interesting, useful even for a complete beginner. You come out with a full functioning game and a deep understanding of not only the what's, but also the why's of every decision. Eager to try their next course.

Generally, this course is excellent for active 2D platforming: the enemy variety is especially commendable, despite a simple, unacknowledged AI bug for the chasing eye. But perhaps because the course offers SO MUCH UTILITY, it does unfortunately include several edge-case bugs that slightly detract from the ability to extend the implementation of the concepts learned herein. In particular, the "slide" action in this course is a workable but clunky basal implementation that fails to recapitulates the desired traditional behavior of such actions, and the ladder climbing also has edge-case buggy behaviour.

I have had problems with working with other game engines, because of my lack of coding knowledge. Blueprints is more accessible to me, and I feel like I've learned the most about basic programming in this course with Blueprints. I feel like this will help me when I try to learn true C++ coding. Cobra Code has allowed me to truly feel that making a game is within my grasp. Thank you Cobra Code!!!!

Really love how Cobra explains everything. Following along with him I could finish the game and got the perfect result. Now I'm gonna use this course and what I have here and try creating my own stuff and implementing new features to my own game. Thanks a lot for this experience :)

One of the best Unreal courses I have ever done. Absolute top. Many concepts shown are applicable beyond just Paper2D - so I would recommend this to anyone wanting to learn game dev in unreal.

This course is very good and loved it. There are some parts of it that are kind of difficult but nothing impossible. I as a programmer had no problem following the various steps. I think it's very useful for entering the blueprint world of Unreal Engine. Now I have a way and a template to use for my future personal projects. I recommend this course to everyone who is interested in videogame development!

It's a really good course but there was one core topic that was missing which was the enemy respawn upon player death (and returning into their original spawn points which is something I would have wanted to learn. But I appreciate how detailed and concise this tutorial was. Thank you cobra code.

This is is amazing!!!! Looking forward for new courses, perhaps with using advanced systems and methods that were mentioned during the course or on the Youtube channel, as also creating games in other styles. Only one suggestion that the course should have moments where students are up to make certain mechanic or task by themselves, and an explanation is on Discord server, that will make people collaborate
