Embark on a journey to mastering modern web development with our comprehensive video course on building applications using Next JS 14 and the OpenAI API. This course is meticulously designed for beginners and intermediate developers who are keen to elevate their skills. You'll start from the ground up by learning how to create a new Next.js app, understand its files and folders structure, and explore the intricacies of routing including link components, nested routes, and dynamic routes.
Immerse yourself in front-end design with TailwindCSS and DaisyUI, and learn to craft responsive layouts, manage themes, and create a unified look for your entire app with layout components. Dive into the backend mechanics with server vs client components, fetching data in server components, handling loading and errors gracefully, and implementing nested layouts
Discover how to enhance your app's functionality with CRUD operations using Server Actions, manage user interactions, and validate data using the Zod library. You'll also learn to integrate a database by hosting with Planetscale and add essential features like authentication with CLERK Service.
By the end of this course, you'll be adept at deploying your NextJS application on Vercel, setting up and toggling themes with DaisyUI, and enriching your app with powerful APIs from OpenAI and Unsplash. Learn how to send prompts, receive responses, and even generate images within your application.
With a hands-on approach, tackle numerous challenges throughout the course to immediately apply your newfound knowledge. This is not just a tutorial; it's a transformative learning experience that will arm you with the tools and confidence to build cutting-edge web applications.

Hello John, first and foremost, I love your work. Your courses regarding JS and React are so well created and accessible for newcomers in programming; they helped me a lot in my journey to becoming a developer. My next step is to learn Next.js in order to become a full-stack developer (at least I hope so). Naturally, I bought your course (this one). But I’m sorry to say this: I am a bit disappointed in the quality of this course. Your explanations regarding Next.js itself are on point, but while following this course, I feel like I am mainly following Tailwind extensions (or plugins) like Chadcn, and the Next.js content feels secondary.

I am a beginner React developer and I wanted to take this course to learn about a fullstack use of Next.JS. I learned much more than expected: A bit of Typescript here and there, React Query, Cleark, Shadcn-UI. All in all a great course from an experience developer. Only drawback for me was that this is more of a follow along course. A few more smaller challenges here and there would help to catch up and repeat concepts. All in all: a great course! Thanks, John!

This course is a goldmine of information on how to use cutting-edge technologies. He does so much with so little code thanks to very clever and creative use of various libraries. I was not able to understand all of the code, but that's just motivated to do the course again and research some of the more advanced concepts.

Great material, great explanations, great presentation. Three very useful projects. The best was the final Jobify project as it included TypeScript. I certainly will be looking at John's other Udemy courses. I love discovering great instructors so that I can delve into their other courses for other learning gems.

John is truly an outstanding teacher. Having learned JavaScript and React.js from him, and now diving into his Next.js all i can say is this course is an absolute gem in web development education. With his trademark clarity and expertise, he navigates through Next.js concepts, making it accessible and enjoyable. A must for any aspiring developer.

John Smilga so far is the top lecturer on Udemy. It would be inappropriate to call names, but I am going through the most popular courses from the most popular authors on the Udemy and John always stays one level above them. I learn the most from his lessons. There is a great balance between deeply explaining the core ideas of the technology and practical examples. John updates his courses to make them up to date and improve them. This course is definitely 5 stars for me! Initially I thought it was a small project course, but it covered much more than I expected when buying it. For example, he finally included a TypeScript project. Usually what he teaches in the current lesson is based on knowledge he explained or referenced in previous ones. There is another very popular author (again, not telling the name) that always starts with some great explanations and then in the second half of a course he starts talking about things that are mega complicated and I have no idea what the hell I am looking at. John prepares his courses very carefully. Again, comparing to another very popular author with high ratings, who also is fairly good as a teacher, but he does not estimate how practical his course is and pretty lazy to make finish every single project I tried to learn from him. John does not have it. From this perspective, his lessons are really top quality. The course is great, but I will mention the things that I missed the most. I miss the concept I enjoyed very much in John’s “React 18” course – watch the frontend continuously. In React course when creating the component, he first checked if it works and kept checking the front end while adding more code, so if there was a problem, you could figure it out immediately. John, it HELPED SO MUCH then!!! In “NextJS & OpenAI” it often became a disaster for me. I have spent about 20 hours catching those problems as here John sometimes was making changes in several components without checking the front end and if you missed some detail, you are on your own to find that problem. In the second part (Chat GPT) it became a total failure for me after he connected PlanetScale. There is no free tier in my country and while trying to deploy myself on Render (I believe there was no video for that second project, so I followed the tutorial for the first project), I could not get it working and then the rest of the project I could never test what I am doing. Just blindly trying to repeat what he is doing without being able to make my own tests or creating my own examples. The course keeps growing and I would ask John at least to consider making it a global course that would go deep into Next.js concepts, like the React course (that was a masterpiece in my opinion with all those JS nuggets and deep explanations it was way ahead other courses on the topic). Jobify project (the third one) is fantastic (really really great). The only thing I missed is different field types, like numbers, uploading images etc. I failed to do it myself so far. Also, why all instructors (not just John)) do detail page by id???? Because it is easier? In real life it’s always “slug” or some kind of combination.

Took me a while to wrap my head around Prisma, useForm, Clerk, and Zod library. This is not my first rodeo with John’s courses, but this one is by far the most challenging and comprehensive. Oh boy, it was worth it. I really love these libraries, and I’m gonna use them on a regular basis. Top-notch course as always! Thank you, John
