The course is good but a little bit outdated. Some outdated parts are mentioned by the instructor but there are also not mentioned outdated parts. For example Shadcn forms no longer exist and also for the npm packages you must stick on the old versions mentioned in the course and not the latest (and improved) newer versions. For example the used otplib package is outdated. So you need a little bit of programming knowledge to handle those outdated parts. Also the email validation part is missing when subscribe as a new user. So you need to implement this on your own. But the overall course content gives you a good start to implement user management.

I have learned a lot in the course. The course covers all aspects of situations. I've started using Next.js v15 and React 19 and noticed some areas where the code needs updating. e.g., prepopulation of email address on the login input. But overall, I liked the instructor's teaching style. Appreciate all the effort put into the course to educate the students.

Very good and detailed step by step instructions on how to implement login and authentication with Next.js. However I would have loved some more background knowledge about Next Auth, like how is it actually creating and handling the session.

Another excellent course from Tom! Very clear explanations. You end up with a perfectly functioning auth flow that you can re-use over and over again. So it's a great value with no time wasted. I did shave off half a star, as my only criticism is that there is a ton of code duplication (that I ended up refactoring myself), and I've been told that putting auth checks in layout files is not the best practice. I would rate it full 5 stars if Tom could address these issues! Either way, I highly recommend this course, Tom is an excellent instructor and offers clear, concise instruction. I now feel comfortable with authentication in Next.js in a way I hadn't before taking the course. Thanks for the knowledge, Tom!

This course is exactly what I was looking for. I struggled with Auth.js and in addition got drizzle (PostGres) and protected routes.

I really enjoy this format of specifically drilling into one concept - in this case, Next Auth - while stripping out the tedious grunt work of making a "complete" project.

Authentication is a difficult topic. I have watched almost every course and every YouTube video. This course is one of the best. This course uses Drizzle-ORM and not Prisma. Drizzle is a much better choice than Prisma for 3 reasons... (1) The Prisma library is too large and does not work on the edge (2) Prisma performs joins in memory and not in the DB, so it must retrieve the entire tables into memory which makes it much slower and memory intensive (3) Prisma will incur higher costs because the database and the network providers bill you on the amount of data you retrieve. Also, Drizzle syntax is much cleaner once you get used to it. This course also covers 2-factor authentication. This course does not cover Google Auth, but it is still one of the best courses you can buy.

I recently completed Tom Phillips' NextAuth v5 Credentials with Next App Router & TypeScript course. The course was exceptionally well-structured and easy to follow. Tom explained complex authentication concepts in a clear and accessible way. I learned a tremendous amount about implementing NextAuth in my projects, and the hands-on approach helped me grasp both the fundamentals and advanced techniques. Highly recommended for anyone looking to master authentication in Next.js applications. Thank you, Tom, for creating such a valuable educational resource!

I'm not very good at English, but more than that, the instructor explained the code very well. I have taken about 100 courses so far, and to my knowledge, this is one of the easiest courses on Udemy. I have taken about 100 courses so far, and to my knowledge, this was by far the most comprehensive course on Udemy. I have been to 100s of Udemy courses so far, and to my knowledge, this was by far the easiest to understand, I've never had anyone else explain it in such detail. This deserves 5 stars. For me, this politeness was the most amazing thing since antonio on youtube. The type setting was precise and easy to understand without running away with ANY. There was no clutter like installing all the APIs at once, no matter where they will be used first. The flow of the explanation was very thorough because he knew the structure of the system. The only thing I am concerned about is that the type setting on my side was an error in next15. I doubt if the following was correct, but other than that, there were no stumbling blocks. =============================== app\(logged-out)\update-password\page.tsx interface Params { searchParams: Promise ; } export default async function UpdatePassword({ searchParams }: Params) { let tokenIsValid = false; =============================== It was like reading a fun short story. I was able to understand it step by step. I look forward to more easy-to-understand lectures in the future.

Very helpful, especially in (which was new for me) the alternative way to protect routes in Next.js Edit: This is officially the first course (of many!) where I've not had to ask one single question. Great explanations of all concepts, very clear. Thoroughly recommended!
