Build type-safe React apps & use TypeScript to enhance your components, state management, Redux & side effects code.

Our take
Based on the ratings of 4,839 students, a sample of their written reviews and the syllabus, as the course stood in November 2025. No course pays to be reviewed.
This is a 7.5 hour course from Academind's Maximilian Schwarzmüller, built specifically for developers who already know React and want to add TypeScript on top. It opens with a TypeScript primer, then moves through typed components, context, useReducer, data fetching, and a Redux module, closing with a small booking-app project. Requirements are plain: basic React knowledge is assumed, prior TypeScript is not. Updated in November 2025, so the syntax and library versions match current tooling.
Reviewers consistently praise Schwarzmüller's teaching, one calls him the best in the business at explaining tech topics, and another points to the screen recordings, on-video annotations, and well-organized downloadable resources. The rating breakdown backs that up: 4,540 of 4,839 reviews land at 4 or 5 stars. Complaints are specific rather than vague. One reviewer found the pacing uneven, sections lingering on small syntax points while others assume more React background than promised. Another flagged that async data handling inside Redux Toolkit isn't covered, and a third wanted a full local setup shown on screen instead of talked through.
At 101 lectures with no quizzes or coding exercises, it rewards someone who learns by watching and typing along rather than testing themselves. The single practice project, a small booking-app build, spans only four lectures and six minutes total, more a capstone than a series of drills, so anyone wanting repeated hands-on reps should plan to build alongside it on their own. For an intermediate developer who already ships React apps and wants to stop fighting TypeScript errors, this is a solid, current pick and one of the more focused options in its category.
Pros
- Instructor explained as exceptionally clear, with annotated screen recordings and organized resources
- Updated November 2025, so syntax and tooling reflect current TypeScript and React versions
- Covers advanced patterns: polymorphic components, Context API, useReducer, and Redux in TypeScript
- 4,540 of 4,839 reviews are 4 or 5 stars
Cons
- No quizzes or coding exercises, just one small project near the end
- Pacing is uneven in spots, slow on basic syntax, faster on assumed React concepts
- Async data handling with Redux Toolkit isn't covered despite being a common real-world need
Mr. Maximilian Schwarzmüller is the G.O.A.T when it comes to teaching any tech topic.
Listed as intermediate, and the reviews confirm it: comfort with React components and state matters more than any TypeScript background.

Who it is for
The instructor says it suits
- React developers who want to improve the quality & type-safety of their codebase
- TypeScript developers who want to apply their knowledge to React apps
What you need before you start
- Basic React knowledge of core concepts (components, JSX, state) is needed
- NO prior TypeScript knowledge is required
Course Description
TypeScript is an amazing technology that helps developers write better code with less errors - simply because it let's you catch & fix type-related errors immediately whilst writing the code (instead of when testing the application).
But using TypeScript with React can sometimes be tricky. Especially when building more complex, dynamic components, defining the right types can be challenging.
That's why I built this course!
This course will teach you how to use TypeScript with React - and, of course, the course will introduce you to all the core concepts & patterns you need to work with components, state, side effects & more in a type-safe way!
This course will:
Teach you WHY using TypeScript in your React projects might be a good idea
Introduce you to the key TypeScript concepts you'll need - when working with React & in general
Get you started with using TypeScript with React - for components, state & more
Explore more advanced, complex patterns & examples
Help you with building dynamic or even polymorphic components in a type-safe way
Teach you how to use TypeScript with React's Context API
Explore how you can enhance code used with useReducer() with help of TypeScript
Cover data fetching & useEffect() with TypeScript
Use the popular Redux library in a type-safe way
Build or improve multiple demo projects so that can apply your knowledge
By the end of the course, you'll be able to use TypeScript in your own (future) React projects and write better, more type-safe code.
Course prerequisites:
NO prior TypeScript knowledge is required - though basic knowledge will help (but the course includes an introduction module)
Basic React knowledge (components, JSX, state) IS required - more advanced concepts will be explained though

pacing is really weird/slow. Some sections seem to dwell a lot on minor things like if statements and other section assume react knowledge. Based on expectations from the beginning of the course it should be one way or the other.

The instructor is very engaging and provides screen recordings of actual work and using the IDE's UI. All markups on the video, as well as hint blurbs for clarifications or edits to the video without re-recording, are also helpful and professional. The downloadable resources are well-structured and planned, and the instructor provides clear reminders of where to find them and how to use them. The one improvement which could be made to the course are quizzes for each section, as those are great as a critical thinking and abilities measurement while psychologically feeling like progress has been made in the subject matter.

This is a great class. I didn't realize when I picked it that it is being presented by the same gentleman whose React book I had purchased before. I recommend this class to everyone.

A lot of if else that is breaking open closed principle, which is a bit messy for this small project and components but would be good to have example of how this could be applied. It was a good walk thorough of how everything works and sample of setting up architecture. Would be good if we also got to know how project can be structured when it gets larger to still be able to find stuff easy.

Typescript concepts with examples explained very well! It's above and beyond in terms of React + TS concepts. The way instructor explain all possible way to achieve some results and then stick to the best one by explaining the reasons for eliminated ones is I feel best way to teach.

Max doesn't go down the golden path when explaining concepts, he purposely forces corner cases where people can learn to tackle the most uncomfortable concepts to prepare for dev work life. I wish this course had included a validation library like zod instead of redux (zod seems to be quite useful for dealing with external interfaces) . I have worked in many JS projects and it's rarely the occasion when we had to use redux (which in my opinion is not for complex data but for data that changes at a very high speed, complex data should always be avoid nesting in react, preferring flat structures). All in all a very complete course, that will take approx a week or two if you study 2hrs a day.!

One of the better courses I've taken, by far. I have ADHD, so auditory learning hasn't always been my strongest skill. I can follow along with this without tuning out, and the exercises help me actually learn what I'm hearing.

This is a very good course, especially if you know React basics and Vanilla JS, and have a good foundation of the Web Development. The instructor has impressive knowledge, but he assumes that the learners have the basic knowledge, and teaches the core TS and React without going into very basic things. The instructor is calm and well experienced. Overall, it's a good course!

All Maximillians courses are very good in comparision to other. I did three of them on React, Next and now Typo. I owe you a lot Maxim - thanks to you I did not loose my job, when my boss wanted me to learn react very fast for the next project. I am working not as next.js dev and now I will also improve my code with typo. I will soon take thr 4th of your course on pure typo.
By Adrien Lamoureux on 11/24/2025
Very good and clear instruction, just a bit behind with how things are today, such as "import type { PropsWithChildren } from 'react';" vs "import { type PropsWithChildren } from 'react';" Both work fine, but the first way is the norm today
