Hello,
My name is Christian Koch and I am a teacher for a range of subjects, primarily Programming in python, economics and maths.
I finished my formal education in 2015 and achieved an MSc in Economic history from the London School in Economics. After that, I went pretty much immediately into teaching and taught at different Business colleges in London and ran lots of different courses that included data science, research methodologies, maths, Economics and history.
I have also worked on several motion graphics videos and recently developed the marketing material for the 'Universities against modern slavery alliance'.
All my courses use animations to explain concepts well and I'd like to think that I am quite good at explaining concepts. Check out my Youtube channel if you want to see how I teach.

The creator's new ultimate introduction to godot course on Youtube was fantastic, which led me to buy this more advanced course of his. Unfortunately, I feel that this course falls short of the quality that his introductory course had. In his introductory course he explained a lot of features clearly, but here it was more 'follow as I do', without as much of the explanation. The way the code was written also felt quite messy towards the end, like he was rushing to finish the project. Instead of writing more modular code that can easily be expanded, he just implemented them into other preexisting functions which would become difficult to manage if the project was expanded. I was also quite disappointed that this course did not cover saving, without which I wouldn't consider the game to be complete. If you only want a course to introduce you to more godot features, then I guess this isn't a bad course. But if you want anything more, such as saving or code management for a larger project, then you won't find it here.

I have taken a fair few courses on game programming at this point, including some of this instructors other works. I have stated in other reviews that I really like the way that his code is written - with a few caveats. Firstly, if you are new to Godot, this probably is not the first course you want to be taking - he moves quite fast, switching between different scripts, etc. and occasionally this can be a little tricky to follow without stopping and replaying. I don't mind that because there is still a lot packed into this course. On the one hand, he does some nice tricks (some of which are very pythonic) to solve some of the more difficult things to do in Godot, which is great - definitely picked up some handy programming skills... on the other, are there some better ways to do things in Godot occasionally? Also, yes. This comes across when there are parts of the code that could easily break (why not use UIDs, for example), and the way the code evolves tends to be a little sporadic at times with some fixes coming in which are ... okay, but could have been better implemented. At parts it feels as though he is rushing through a little (e.g., the shop system, particularly in the unlocking parts were using concepts some folks might struggle to follow the logic). ... However, overall it is a good course, and I would definitely say that overall I have benefited from it, and was well worth the money I paid (true, it was on sale). One minor point is that I think it would have been nice to quickly include a quick start screen, as well as progress saving which would perhaps only have added another two 10-20 min sections and it would have felt much more complete. Also, the way the shop works would have to be redone if you wanted to vary things, or have actual costs for the machines, etc. Anyhow, these are very minor issues and I am being picky. After completing the course, I feel much more confident in my ability to create similar games, and beyond, and that is the point at the end of the day. Well done again!

This was a fun course! It covered a wide variety of mechanics and introduced me to several new ways of tackling solutions in Godot. I loved the use of a signal during various action animations. The rain and fishing game were pleasant surprises. The @tool and randomized apple placement in trees was new for me. Some of the responsibilities implemented toward the end of the course felt like they belonged with already existing components rather than residing in the main level. However, all-in-all this is a small project that packed a lot of enjoyable learning in.

I learned a lot of different ways to apply different concepts! As a beginner godot user with some novice coding knowledge, this was a good stepping stone to learn some cool tricks. I particularly found the use of dictionary with keys (enums) to be extremely eye opening to how flexible that structure to organize any aspect of a game from resource information, shop currencies, tool bars, etc. The exercises were reasonably challenging, felt great being able to complete some of them on my own!

Christian's course was amazing - I was really pleasantly surprised by just how in-depth he goes into the details of designing a game. It was a fun experience and I feel I learned so much about how to use the tools in Godot. I'm ready! Christian did a good job of editing the course and keeping the video time down - not much wasted time watching. This means I needed to stop the video a lot, but it makes it so much better to go back and see something quickly again. So the content is a lot more than many courses with the same time amount.

Just finished the course! I loved the project. I learned a ton about tiling and the functions. I have taken other Godot courses, but I didn't get the chance to go into depth on how to use the tilemaplayer node for farming. My head is spinning with possibilities of how this can be used to make puzzle games (Zelda style). Easy 5 stars. I'm pretty confident I could build my own Stardew Valley now. This is a short project, so it doesn't look as fancy as Stardew Valley, but you learn the core mechanics, and by the end, you should be able to create your own village, farm, bad guys, etc. For complete Beginners(read below) I will say this. I do not think this course is for beginners. The course is fast-paced, and while he does explain everything step by step. He does assume you know how to use plenty of Godot's core functionalities. You might want to try a beginner course before this one. I felt the pace quicken towards the end. Even if you're a beginner, you can get through the whole course. But if you really want to understand everything, you're gonna have to pause a ton, read documentation, and look up some videos for in-depth explanations on Godot core concepts.

Great course, thanks again ! I'm not a total beginner since I've been a web developer for 3 years before landing onto learning Godot, so I wouldn't know if the course is ok for total beginners. I suppose if you've never coded you will be lost at times and it will slower your progress, but I think the same teachers has a previous course of "Learning to code with Godot" so maybe start there first ? That being said: Timing: this is only my second tutorial with Godot (and game dev more generally). I spend about three weeks (doing a bunch of other stuff aside too) to complete the entire tutorial. Quality things are well explained and showed, and the teacher knows when to advise you to pause the video and try to do things on you're own. Hence you really practise and not just copy what he is doing all the time. As I went further into the course I felt more confident to do things on my own, so if you're looking for an up-to-date class that helps you learn the basics and do things on your own, this is it. Q&A: I asked a question and the teacher responded in the 24h, so if you're stuck or wondering about "why doing things this way", you'll get help there too. Maybe the game is lacking start / pause / settins menus but apart from that, if your goal is to learn how to code the game itself (you can focus on the UI another time, if you're starting maybe it's not a priority), the course is complete.

I feel like the video is progressing very quickly. I'm spending a ton of time pausing, rewinding, and struggling to keep up. The content is good but the pacing is very difficult to follow. I also feel like there was a lot of pre-work done here setting things up so I'm missing some of the foundations. That said, there are plenty of other videos to cover setting up a basic level or player scene, so not a big deal. I am finding I'm still getting random tool usage animations playing when I start after finishing the animation trees which may be on me, but I feel like it would have been helpful to clarify why that happens and how to solve.

An amazing course! I think Mr. Christian coding skills and knowledge of Godot are just outstanding, this is such a great way to learn about how to organize and manage a full project. The fact that he includes resources and everything is properly documented is so useful, straight to the point. If I were to add just a constructive comment, is that at some parts of the most complex parts of sections 5 and 6 he skims through the explanations very fast, this is the only times I was taken aback due to the complexity of the code, it took me a while to figure out the issues but mostly why the code was "being coded" that way. These are just little issues and nothing game breaking, I hope he takes more time to explain the code in future tutorials, that being said, I LOVED this course, no doubts one of the best of this platform

The pace is way too fast in the early lessons, which makes it difficult to keep up. I had to pause the video very often. Additionally, the action animation appears to be buggy (tested on Linux).
