Course Description

Remix is a strongly growing React framework that (vastly!) simplifies the process of building feature-rich, interactive fullstack React applications and websites.

With Remix, backend and frontend code work together seamlessly, and, as a developer, you don't have to worry about managing multiple, separated projects or codebases. Instead, you implement your backend logic next to your frontend code and let Remix handle the rest.

In this course, you will learn how to build fullstack React.js applications and websites with Remix from the ground up. All key Remix concepts are covered in-depth and taught step-by-step, slowly building up on each other. By the end of this course you will therefore be able to build your own Remix fullstack websites!

As part of this course, you will build two major demo projects, including an "Expenses Management Website" where users can sign up, manage their expenses and view expense analytics. As part of this project, you will learn how to perform CRUD (Create, Read, Update, Delete) operations with Remix and how to connect your React app to a database.

The following concepts are covered in great detail in this course:

  • What Remix is & how it works

  • Remix vs NextJS

  • Adding routes and pages

  • Working with nested routes

  • Managing (potentially nested) layouts

  • Combining pages with non-page components

  • Styling pages and components

  • Fetching data (also for nested pages)

  • Submitting data - via forms & programmatically

  • Handling data submissions on the backend

  • Storing data in databases & fetching data from databases

  • Validating user input

  • Authenticating users (signup & login)

  • Managing sessions via cookies

  • Optimizing Remix applications

  • Deploying Remix applications

  • And much more!

I recently completed the Remix.js course and found it to be highly informative and practical. The course does an excellent job of explaining the fundamentals of the Remix framework, with clear concepts and practical examples that help you get up and running quickly. The knowledge imparted is solid, and the hands-on approach makes it easy to grasp the core principles. However, there have been numerous updates to the Remix framework, including changes in CSS, routing, and TailwindCSS. It would be beneficial if the course included new lectures that cover these updates in detail. This would ensure that learners are up-to-date with the latest changes and can apply them effectively in their projects. Overall, it's a great course for anyone looking to learn Remix.js, but it could use some updates to reflect the latest advancements in the framework.

Pretty cool course, but there are a lot of outdated information. Experienced programmers will be able to handle it without any problems, but beginners may have a hard time completing this course.

The course is well structured, and Maximilian explains things clearly. Finished CSS files are prepared beforehand, so as to focus on the Remix specific concepts. A great course for learning Remix. One thing to note is that Remix v.1 is used and not v.2. Downloading an older version gets you through the course, and then you can migrate the projects if you want. Or just look up the differences in the Remix docs.

Amazing lectures, nice and clear explanation. However, I would much appreciate if Max reviewed the code to give recommendation/instruction related to migration from v1 to v2 and/or update depreciated functions. all-in-all the training covers the most important aspects in app design, it's especially useful for beginners, e.g. for me who stared working with Remix few months ago.

The instructor explained perfectly each concept. The project created throughout the course was amazing. The application is prepared to cover all the different topics (even for the deploy), which is a really great work done by Max. The only thing that would be nice to have is some lectures about the v2 of Remix. I decided to take that path (use the v2) and some parts were a bit different, specially the way the routes are defined. It is a super recommended course to learn all the fundamentals about Remix and deep dive into some of the main concepts by working in a project created for it.

The course was very well structured, I could follow the explanations very well. Overall, I find the course very well done and helpful! I would have liked to see more information on the differences between v1 and v2 routing. I used v2 routing because I couldn't get v1 routing to work at the beginning due to error messages and therefore had to learn some things myself. However, this should not be included in the assessment, as it did not prevent me from working on and understanding the course topics.

A bit of a hassle not doing the course in typescript. I did the first half and added typescript types, but I lost it when all the react components got copied from course resources. To quote one of my colleagues: "You would have to be mental to do a professional project in javascript". Really wish more courses did it with typescript.

He always makes great course content, this one is no different. I am only giving four stars because I believe it doesn't address a very common use case where there is already an existing backend, the Backend for Frontend scenario. If a section were added to highlight the implementation differences for requests and auth, then this course would get 5 stars.

A very good overview about Remix's main features taught via a solid, non-trivial hands-on project. Concise, precise, straight to the point! Highly recommended if you want to start with Remix! Kudos to Maximilian Schwarzmüller - I've taken many of your courses already and you never disappointed me.

Max is a Rock Star and always keeps you in the game seeking additional thoughts that can extend what you learn. He follows the proper teaching principal of "Tell them, Tell them what told them, and then Tell them again". This allows the student understand not only how, but why. Thank you Max. This course saved me from the NextJs rabbit hole. Remix seems to adopt the KISS method that is lacking in Nextjs. It also feels like there will less frequent breaking changes which while nice frameworks, Svelt and Nextjs lack. Both try too hard to create a new paradigm when existing old school paradigms are far better for long term commercial SaSS development. Change is good, but to do so too quickly creates uncertainty where is uncertainty is unwelcome. It would be awesome if you could a deep dive in the full stack implementation by combing all the aspects of your React course and Remix course using MongoDB/Postgres as the back end storage facilitator. Also adding a UI framework such as MUI, or Bootstrap vice using fully custom css integration. Like a zero to hero course. Beginner to expert course if you will. Until next time Max. I wish you well and thank you for your continued work making developers better.
