Our take

Based on the ratings of 2,653 students, a sample of their written reviews and the syllabus, as the course stood in April 2023. No course pays to be reviewed.

This is a short, lecture-based course on everyday negotiation. It runs about 2.2 hours across 30 lectures and 10 sections, covering general tips, buying and selling, salary, assertiveness, dirty tricks, body language and, since the 2023 update, handling complaints. Dr. Roy Naraine, a medical doctor who has run self-improvement training for twenty years, does the teaching. The syllabus shows no quizzes, exercises or assignments, so it is something to watch rather than work through. It is aimed at ordinary people facing a raise talk or a car purchase.

Reviewers like how relatable it is. People mention examples from buying a car and from office life, and a couple say the delivery is clear and easy to follow. Close to nine in ten of the 2,653 ratings are four or five stars. The complaints are consistent, though. Some want more scenarios and support material, such as a graph to explain BATNA. One reviewer struggled with the accent. Lower ratings call the tips basic, one finds the focus on bad behavior negative, and another says the sections change abruptly.

At 2.2 hours it is a quick watch. It was last updated in April 2023, and the syllabus shows nothing on negotiating virtually, which one reviewer missed. It works as a good first pass for someone who has never thought much about negotiating, especially ahead of a salary conversation. Anyone with experience, or anyone after frameworks and practice, will likely find it thin. Treat it as a primer and follow it with something more hands-on.

Best forBeginners who want quick, everyday negotiating tips for salary talks, car buying and office life in about two hours.
Skip it ifYou want advanced strategy, role-play practice or guidance for negotiating over video calls.

Pros

  • Relatable examples, like car buying and a co-worker's remarks
  • Short at about 2.2 hours, easy to finish in a sitting or two
  • Has a dedicated salary section and a separate dirty tricks section
  • Reviewers say the delivery is clear and easy to follow

Cons

  • No quizzes, exercises or role-play, just a series of lectures
  • Nothing in the syllabus on remote negotiation; last updated April 2023
  • Some reviewers find the tips basic and want more scenarios
Very nice course, trainer speak in understandable way, a lot of real life use cases, I learn couple of important things.

I enjoyed what the speaker taught, but sometimes I find it difficult to understand a person with an accent. I did my best to take in all the information, but at times, I was lost with pronunciation. If you're going to teach a course, find a person who speaks English without an accent.

While studying this course, it is immediately obvious that Dr. Roy knows what he is talking about. I especially liked the stories from his professional experience, these stories are worth their weight in gold. Personally (like any of you) I disagreed with some of the topics because I think it is a strong generalization. But on the whole, learned a lot of new Stuff and broadened my Horizon. Thank you!

Subject was given theoretically, but will need much more examples to help us understand. Otherwise, we will need a lot of trial and error, combined with going back to the lecture in order to understand what the appropriate reaction would be most appropriate in each situation.
