Course Description

Disclaimer : This course is created in Unreal Engine 5.2 version (2023). The new Lyra Framework course in Unreal Engine 5.6 version (2025) is now available. You can check that in my courses list before buying this course.

If you are completely new to Lyra Framework, this course provides an overview of the features in the Lyra Starter Game - Shooter Core. Thanks.

In this Course, you will learn Modern Game Development approaches using Unreal Engine 5 and Lyra Sample Project as a Gameplay Ability System Framework. Only Free assets from the Marketplace will be used throughout this course.

We will be using Mostly Blueprints throughout the course with a little customization to the Lyra C++ Framework in a very few places.

This Course is not intended to be Step by Step. It is particularly targeted to the Unreal Engine Developers who wants to know more about Lyra Framework and the features available. So there will be many use cases covered on how to use the Lyra Framework features in your game development workflow.

This Course is made in Unreal Engine 5.2. But the Lyra Framework concepts are still the same in the Later Unreal Engine version. There are sections in the course to highlight the changes in the latest version of the Unreal Engine 5.3. and I have also added a new video to Unreal Engine 5.4 Auto Retargeting process to get even more better results changing the skeletal mesh.

This course will be "To the Point" and no time will be wasted. We will be exploring the different features in Lyra and How we can use them in modern game development projects. In this course, we will cover the development of a Combat game using the reusable features in Lyra.  We will start with the understanding of the Lyra Framework features and the concepts of Gameplay Ability System. Then gradually start making modifications and add more features to build our own unique games. We will be using the Market place Characters and Metahumans in this course.

We will do some customization to the Lyra gameplay with  changes to the Blueprint and C++. We will also create a photo realistic open world Jungle environment using Procedural tools. We will then extend the Lyra Features and add Archer and Melee Abilities. We will then deep dive into the implementation of some of the Lyra Components and explore the blueprints.

We will start the course very light with Basic concepts of Lyra and slowly start using the Lyra features to develop the game. Modular game development approach is followed. The course is targeted for Beginner to Intermediate level Unreal Engine game developers. We wont cover the Unreal Engine concepts from the scratch, but focus more towards using Lyra in Unreal Engine.

By the end of this course , you will get a good understanding of using the Lyra Framework in Unreal Engine 5.2.

This course will be a good foundation to develop your own virtual worlds for the metaverse and get ready for the Next generation game development.

This Course will continue to grow with a lot more features added on a regular basis. You will get lifetime course updates for free.

Note :  Any reference to the Paid assets (Ultra Dynamic Sky in one of the lectures) are just for reference and a better suggestion and completely optional.

When I first bought this course, it was overwhelming because I couldn't understand what was going on, granted I had only worked with Unreal Engine for 3 months at that point. But I have returned now with a basic understanding of GAS and it really helped. This course will not teach you the ins and outs of Lyra (at least not yet when I'm writing this). What it offers instead is a walkthrough of how you can modify Lyra, like where you can extend things and how you should go about doing it, which is very useful for newcomers as you can easily extrapolate your own modification (which you should always do, don't just follow the tutorial, but make your own changes, even if it's just using different assets) and the fun starts there. You should not just use this course as your sole Lyra resource. Lyra is a huge framework and there is still a lot of tribal knowledge scattered around the internet. I would recommend this course for people who want to start learning Lyra but don't have the time to go through the project/codebase on their own and instead prefer a curated walkthrough on the most common systems/features that you most likely would be interested in.

A lot of large assets to download during this course. If you have a slow connection, be aware that you might have to suddenly pause the lecture (and block the internet) until the required asset from the Marketplace has been downloaded. It might take a few hours depending on the asset. In many cases, parts of the Lyra code are shown, but not explained. Which means you will see the relevant code parts and might still be wondering why everything seems so overly complicated and spread across so many files. Luckily for me, I already had a little bit of experience and am aware of the idea behind Lyra's architecture. What I missed is polishing (the hardest part). A new Lyra Experience is introduced/created, and then immediately abandoned in favor of the next section. Examples are the bow weapon, the melee character, or the Behavior Trees. It is not clear how (or if) these parts are supposed to work together. The enemy (or hero character) is simply replaced entirely each time. This course gives you a decent (albeit generic) overview of Lyra. I can recommend it to anyone who wants to verify his/her experience with Lyra, or who doesn't know where to start.

The course is a great overview of a complex system. Despite the complexity, I think he does a great job of teaching it. Going through all this alone is a very tough task. It took me a about week to go through all this content. I recommend learning ACTIVELY. I made mind maps and documented the lessons to work on the content and memorize it. He is a bit too fast at times and the audio does not always precede the action. So you sometimes see what is done and get the audio a bit later. I sometimes had to go back and stop the video when he switched between windows or menus too quickly. He also does not always announce the exact goal of a section in the beginning. What I like are the diagrams that show how things hang together or show multiple components next to each other. I takes time until all those abstract things like "experiences" make sense. So I would appreciate even more diagrams. I think of diagrams about the entire system (Game feature plugin, experience, experience definition, etc). For future updates, I would appreciate more single player content and covering how the Animation system works. I also feel that there are still a few things unsaid about these abstract ideas. Can several experiences be active at once? Why are certain things in the Plugin folder and others not? I wouldn't want to mess with the Plugin folder, but it seems to be necessary if I understand it correctly. Unfortunately, Udemy seems to downscale the resolution when I make the window smaller to put it next to the Unreal window.

I wish I found this course sooner, it is quite literally exactly what I needed when trying to use Lyra, and even just UE5 and onwards. The teacher helps with questions and explains things very well, shows exactly what you need to do and is very good amount of depth to everything being taught! If you're looking to learn UE5 and onwards, and especially how to utilise Lyra and the features Lyra brings, I highly recommend this course!

This is more like a "unboxing" video, where the instructor is just saying what's in "the box" of lyra. There's little discussion of why something is the way it is. The instructor declares "By the end of this course , you will get a good understanding of using the Lyra Framework in Unreal Engine 5.2." This is not true. You can do your own unboxing for free and there are likely better courses to learn things like Gameplay Abilities System and gameplay plugins.

Be sure to start a new project as he doesn't work non-destructive. It's really dangerous to try and implement this workflow into existing projects as he doesn't duplicate assets but overrides Lyra's existing stuff. Like the Cine camera where he deletes one camera to make the menu, if you replicate his workflow there is no going back explanation. I tried to delete the other camera as explained then implement the sequencer in another level where I wanted to rebuild it but he sequencer seems attached to the camera regardless of the levels. So long story short, now I have sequencer with no camera and no introduction to how I get it back. GG.

This course is exactly what i was looking for to learn about Lyra Unreal Engine framework for game development. It was very informative and detailed. Its very rare to find such detailed course where the instructor covers each and every aspects of the course. When i initially heard about Lyra, i didn't find much information and need to search in various places. This is like one stop solution for that. Its really worth every penny i spend on this course and feeling happy about that. I thoroughly enjoyed the course and looking forward to next courses by Braveior Studios.

This course starts off with a good Lyra walkthrough before actually jumping into anything. I like this approach because it helps one understand and feel comfortable with the content. Personally, I have been waiting for a course like this to come along. Since I'm interested in using the Lyra framework, but don't always have the time to figure everything out on my own. I believe this course is a worthwhile investment.

I have been thoroughly impressed with this Udemy course. It is the first one I have come across that focuses on the Lyra Unreal Engine framework for game development. When I first heard about this framework, I was intrigued by its capabilities. Finally, I found an instructor who not only understands the intricacies of Lyra but also takes the time to teach it in great detail, allowing us to fully harness its potential. One aspect that I particularly appreciate about this course is its concise and easily understandable structure. The instructor covers a comprehensive range of topics, leaving no stone unturned when it comes to successfully releasing a game with Lyra. Although I am still in the process of completing the course, I am already convinced that it is a worthwhile investment for anyone interested in creating an impressive third-person shooter game.

I believe this is the first course I have seen that covers the Lyra Unreal Engine framework for game development. I remember seeing this framework announced and thinking it was an amazing technology. Finally, we have someone who understands this framework and is willing to teach it to us in detail so that we can take full advantage of it. I like that the courses are short and easy to digest. I appreciate that the instructor covers just about everything, if not everything, that is needed for us to successfully release a game with Lyra. I am still going through the course and will update this review once I am finished, but so far I must say that this is worth purchasing if you want to make a cool TPS game. I am curious if we can apply this to other types of game design, but I will hopefully know by the end.
