Course Description

Note : The Course is updated to support Unreal Engine 5.4 - Auto Retargeting Animations.

Consider using Unreal Engine version 5.4 for this Course if you are a complete beginner.

The Course content is generic and can be applied to new versions of Unreal engine.

But due to changes in the Third person template in Unreal engine 5.6 and above will make it difficult for complete beginners to follow.

In this Course, you will learn the concepts to build a Traversal Parkour System which includes Climb, Hop, Mantle and Vault.

It's a Complete Blueprint Workshop with a lot of Interesting concepts in Blueprints considering the Traversal Parkour System as a use case.

This Course is a Simplified version of the Traversal System which can be easily understood even for the Beginners with knowledge in Blueprints. If you are completely new to Blueprints, you many need to take a Blueprint course along with.

The Unreal engine concepts covered in this course is not only applied for Traversal System. It can be used in a lot of scenarios in Game development. This course will be regularly updated with more use cases in the future.

We will use only Free animations from Mixamo through out this course. Motion Warping and Inverse Kinematics or IK will be used to build the Parkour abilities. This course is designed for Unreal Engine Developers at any level. Blueprints are used through-out this course. We start with a beginner's section covering the Unreal Engine Concepts used in this course followed by the Implementation of Traversal Parkour System.

The Goal of this Course is to Cover the fundamentals of building a Traversal Parkour System using Unreal Engine.

Please understand this is not a Product which can be readily used in games. But, consider this as a Workshop to learn Unreal Engine with a Practical Example of Building a Traversal Parkour System. Once, you understand the concepts covered and build your foundations strong, You will be in a position to develop solid products and frameworks covering all the needs of your Next Generation Games.

The base concepts behind most of the Traversal Actions remains the same. So Learning the basics will help you get ready to further explore and build advanced systems.

There is an Additional Section for Developers interested to try the Traversal System in Lyra.

Course is extremely helpful, however it is definitely not for beginners. It looks annoying from the beginning, not structured in the middle, but at the end of the course everything starting to be clear and reasonable. Just a note, this is only one course I've managed to find on Udemy regarding this topic, so I have nothing to compare with. I can only suggest this course if you want to start with the real traversal actions implementation. Very interesting solution (new for me) segregate traversal block to the separate BP. Tag system is amazing. Unfortunately the pile of functions is not sorted, may be different variables could be combined to the structure, but this is not a scope of this course, this can be done later, since I definitely going to do this course again :) Thank You!

I like the course, i like that you explain why I am doing something. I think you should make them a bit more interactive though. after a few lessons just give a challenge to remember what was just explained, for instance after I got through the vector movement part I erased everything and tried to recreate it from memory and talk myself through what I am trying to do.

It's a good course to start with traversal system, one comment though: I would rather start with simpler ideas first: vaulting, mantling, etc, then move to climbing... since learning climbing as a first thing is a bit overwhelming and definitely not for the very beginner... otherwise, totally recommend the course for those, who understand the basic locomotion and wants to add more verticality to it. So thank you)

It's a great tutorial and easy to follow, and help (in the discord channel) is quite prompt, my question received a response in 6 hours and in general instructor is quite active in the server. This course provides quite a comprehensive deep dive into specifically traversal system. Don't skip the previous Unreal Basics because he makes things that he will use later for the traversal system. I do want to say that instructor does not explains too much on the fundamental or the logic, just the theory, it's quite important that you do actually know unreal (to like an intermediate level?) and simply coming to this tutorial on learning parkour system, not unreal itself, or else it'll be quite difficult for you.

First of all let me explain why I have given you a low rating, you have stated that the course is Beginner friendly, When You say this to people you should be explaining what you are doing And why you are choosing that specific node, you have not even explained what variables are, floats Boolean Integers vectors, when somebody is a new they will not understand any nodes, so you have to treat them as if you are talking to your 90 year old grandma, there has been times in this course that I had to check if my audio was still working because there's been times when you don't speak for quite a long time, this course is aimed more at intermediate level users. You really need to explain what you are doing and why you are doing it to make this course worth watching, for me I didn't understand most of it, I expect most new users will feel the same. There is a difference in explaining what you are doing and talking about what you are doing. Know the difference!

Material, approach itself to actually doing stuff like IK and moving is pretty good, but presentation could be a lot better. I watched up to lecture 78, but giving up from finishing the course. Not explaining how and why whole thing works before doing it makes it hard for me personally to follow material. Bottom-up development, creating pieces without explaining how they fit into whole, and then finishing with "voila! it works" is not my cup of tea when trying to learn something. Suitable if you want to get some exposure to the engine, should be easy to just follow along, but for me it is hard to follow along all the time without knowing WHY am I doing something. Also, feels like videos were recorded separate from audio, which also reduces immersion.

I cannot believe how much I learned from this course. Absolutely exceptional work the instructor has put into this. Easy to follow along with the entire course. Highly recommend this for anyone that is getting started with building a traversal system with dynamic animations!

This is a nice, paced course on a handful of subjects (line trace/motion-warping coupled with animations) that I haven't delved into much. By the end, I not only came out with a decent climbing system for prototyping, but I gained experience in topics I've only marginally scratched before. Now the end product is not perfect, there are hiccups, but it is a start, and I feel I have gained enough knowledge to tweak and refine the system to my liking. The instructor is very responsive on Discord, and if one has an issue, he has a good hunch as to what function/anim is the Root cause. I am taking off half a star b/c the instructor should get a better microphone if he is going to continue to develop videos for Udemy. The microphone sounds like a built-in laptop mic, and this did get me into some trouble while following along as I would be listening to the audio and coding, rather than, double-checking the screen to ensure I was inputting the correct functions or values. And believe me, this isn't a course that you want to have to backtrack looking for your mistake. Anyways, halfway thru I decided to use my eyes more even tho I've never had this problem in any other tutorials. Highly recommend!

This is a wonderful course put forward by a very professional and patient teacher. The teacher's explanation is quite careful, and the knowledge points are broken into simple pieces, easy for students to understand. To be honest, although I didn't fully understand the whole system, I still learned a lot. Some people may feel that the teacher speaks a little too slowly, but for those who don't understand UE that well, this step-by-step teaching gives a rather reassuring feeling. I had a lot of problems in the course, and my teacher was quick and patient to answer them on discord. Again, thank you very much and look forward to more UE courses from you!

This course has helped me to learn to set up helpful functions and understand the theory behind wall traces and hits , I'm looking forward to continuing this course and the information it presents. The instructor is very knowledgeable and helpful as well as friendly ^_^.
