Course Description

Do you want to make your first fully functioning game but feel overwhelmed by coding? Well, don’t worry — this course is designed exactly for you!

In this hands-on, beginner-friendly course, you'll learn how to create a complete First Person Shooter (FPS) game using Unreal Engine 5 and Blueprints — Unreal’s powerful visual scripting system that lets you build games without writing a single line of code .

You’ll create a zombie survival game  where enemies chase you and attack in waves, testing your skills as you fight to survive. The game will feature 7 switchable weapons, each with its own purpose and personality:

AK-47 — the iconic assault rifle, reliable, fast, and perfect for mowing down enemies at medium range.
USP Pistol — a sleek, semi-automatic sidearm for when you need quick backup and precise shots.
AWP Sniper Rifle — slow but deadly, perfect for picking off zombies from a distance with one powerful shot.
Axe — when the ammo runs out, nothing beats the raw satisfaction of getting up close with a heavy melee weapon.
C4 Explosive — plant it, step back, and enjoy the chaos as you blow up groups of enemies.
First Aid Kit — your lifeline in the heat of battle, quickly restoring health when things get rough.
Flashlight — not every good thing is in plain sight; light up dark areas and uncover valuable assets.

Each weapon comes with its own custom-made animations  for shooting, reloading, and equipping — all of which we’ll create together inside Unreal Engine 5. We’ll also add ammo pickups, win and lose conditions, impact visual effects, and ragdoll effects to bring the world to life .

This course is organized into three structured sections, designed to take you from complete beginner to building your own playable game step by step:

Section 1: Unreal Engine & Blueprint Basics
We’ll start with the foundations. You’ll learn how to navigate Unreal Engine 5, understand the basics of Blueprints, and create your first simple game functionalities without writing any code. We’ll also import all the assets we need for our project, so everything is ready for development.

Section 2: Unreal Engine Animation Framework
In this section, you’ll dive into Unreal’s animation system. You’ll learn how animation assets work, and more importantly, we’ll create the animations we need for our game ourselves. That includes equip, fire, and reload animations for each weapon, so you won’t depend on any external animation packs — everything will be built from scratch.

Section 3: Putting It All Together
This is where it gets exciting! We’ll combine everything we’ve built and bring the game to life. You’ll learn how to set up weapon switching, shooting and reloading mechanics, enemy AI, the game HUD, and a wave-based game mode. We’ll also implement win and lose conditions, and finally, package the project, so you have a complete, polished game ready to play or showcase.

  • This course was created using Unreal Engine 5.4. If you choose to follow along with a newer version of Unreal Engine, you may encounter differences in asset importing, First Person setup, animation workflows, and Control Rig features.

  • To ensure the best learning experience and avoid unnecessary issues, I strongly recommend using Unreal Engine 5.4 while taking this course.

Enjoying the course so far, nothing to complain apart for small things which new student's might struggle with. The textures weren't all a factor of two, some were 2,048x1,024 and I had to manually open them up in paint, force them to 2,048x2,048, reimport and that was it. But honestly, it's these small things I personally don't mind as it teaches you to think further and you learn out of it BUT this is not true for everyone. Some might give up cause they're struggling and can't figure it out... Anyways, I'm now at the point where we're creating the new map for prototyping... Excited to see what's in store :)

A solid tutorial! I gave it 4 stars because this was made before a few sweeping changes in Unreal version 5.7+ and I kind of wish the course was named "Unreal Engine 5.6: Making a…" and not just "Unreal Engine 5." That said, I'd say that 95% of this course still works very well with 5.7. For instance, I ended up using the free character asset "Adventure Female" by Bugrimov Maksim on FAB instead of the recommended Survival Character, and the rigging still worked well. My biggest recommendation to Alireza: Much like the Weapons, Items, and Factory files, you should upload the files no longer available in 5.7 that are needed for this course. I had to download the starter content from another website (because downloading gigabytes of an older version of Unreal wasn't an option for me), but I would have appreciated the particles and sounds being included in a resource folder. All that said, I'm very glad to have taken this course and will happily follow Alireza for future content! Thanks so much

The repitition in this course is very smart. After the first gun, I was just copying if I'm being honest. However, bye the time you learn how to setup 5 different items, skelital mesh, control rig, sequence animations and bakes, you really start to learn the whole process. This weapons solution could be added to any other environment , to bring the levels to life. PS, i accidently deleted one of my bone sockets (USP Pistol), but re-doing it on my own was a re-learning, and rewarding experience.

Instructor says to use the latest version of unreal if you want, without addressing all the issues that will come with. Assets are missing from the resources can't follow along cause they are absent. Assets downloaded from fab used in the course are not compatible in my version. The importing functions work entirely different in my version compared to his (this caused allot of frustration had to import 3 different times). This course is suppossed to be for beginners and I believe the careless execution of this course will cause beginners to get discouraged and quit. This all could have been avoided by simply telling the student to follow along with the version the instructor is using instead of setting them up for failure.

great introductory course. End to End guidance and very practical delivery. Statisfying experience. For people with prior experience in programming, it will out you at ease with FPS development logic. For others it is fairly decent to just get an introduction about end to end completion of the project along with the use of logic and UE functionality

The tutorial is beginner friendly but the pace is very slow especially in videos 13 -17. The people working on unreal (even beginners) are either developers or collage graduates they are not computer illiterate. The tutorial starts going through basic computer science basics like Variables etc. 2-3 min video would have been fine, I believe every who will start unreal will be familiar with those concepts. I really like the teaching style and the content but I got soo bored because of slow pace that I had to get coffee twice so I dont sleep. Students enrolling in a Unreal engine tutorial are either gamers or game developers and need to learn the game engine quick. The tutorial can be much better designed to keep pace and the extra content can be made optional or a separate section for complete beginners. I would have given this a 5 star if the pace was not soo slow. A game developers wants to move fast and get to results quickly.

If you debating this course DONT just get it. I absolutely loved this course! Even with zero prior experience, I found it easy to follow and I mean Zero, i have now added my own flare to it as well which feels awesome. The instructor goes above and beyond with queries and any issues that came up—most of which were my own mistakes—but it turned into a great learning experience for me. You don’t just follow instructions; you gain real skills that allow you to develop further on your own. The voice and tone are excellent, instructions are crystal clear, and it’s obvious the instructor is highly knowledgeable. I can’t wait for more courses like this in the future! Thanks again wished more courses were like this.

This is a well-structured course. The approach of guiding learners through an FPS project provides both a solid introduction and a strong foundation in Unreal Engine. The use of Unreal Engine 5.4 is a great choice, modern enough to stay relevant while being close to version 5.6, ensuring smooth compatibility throughout the tasks. Overall, I highly recommend this course.

I'm only in the 1st section (Lesson 17), but this has been an amazing course. The teaching style is perfect. The instructor makes it easy to understand and learn. I never really understood materials until now. I'm looking forward to the animation section. Definitely going to take his course on environments after this course. Highly recommend this course if you want to start your UE journey on the right track and not feel overwhelmed.

Go for it! Project-based learning has always been my approach to mastering a software. There's no point in learning everything at once when you rarely implement most of it, right? I'm halfway through this course, and it checks all the boxes I look for. It's project-based, teaching the most-used functionalities of Unreal Engine 5(with good practices) without overwhelming you with unnecessary details and functionalities. The instructor's teaching style is fabulous. This is an excellent start for your game development journey!
