Course Description

In this course you will learn how to make games using Unreal Engine 4/5 without writing any lines of code.

You will learn how to use the powerful Visual Scripting Language: Blueprints.

This course is created for Beginners and Advanced Students.

The goal for this course is to ensure that you will understand how each and every Blueprint works, so I am explaining every lesson in great detail with a lot of repetition.

The techniques you are going to learn in this course will help you build your own unique gameplay actions and player abilities for any type of game such as Third Person Shooter, First Person Shooter, TopDown, SideScroller, RPG or any other type.

After completing this course you will be able to:

  • Understand how Blueprints work

  • Create an exciting and cool Gameplay Actions

  • Create unique Player Abilities with a Cooldown system

  • Create a game with powerful and optimized Blueprints

  • Detect, reproduce and FIX common errors during programming

In this course I will explain why some of the commonly used Blueprints can be bad for your game, such as:

  1. Casting ( e.g. "Cast To Third Person Character" )

  2. Event Tick

  3. Event Bindings ( in Widget Blueprints )

  4. Delay

  5. Get All Actors of Class

You are not going to just follow the videos and copy what I'm doing, but you will actually understand how everything works, so after finishing this Course you will be able to program with Blueprints on your own, with a very little to no help from other Tutorials.

Vlatko Chankulovski

I'm an Unreal Engine Senior Gameplay and UI/UX Programmer.

After many years of experience as a game developer, I have successfully created 10+ Full games and 100+ game prototypes and counting.

After completing my Courses, you will be able to create a fully functional, optimized and production-ready games!

Here's why:

Many important things for game development are not being taught on Youtube and other learning platforms, and some of those things are Game Optimization and Best Practices.

That's why I've decided to address these problems by creating Unreal Engine courses and Tutorials that will teach you how to create games with proper Blueprints and best practices.

I want to teach you how to understand the Blueprints - not just to COPY/PASTE from the videos and not knowing what is going on. You will actually learn HOW and WHY the Blueprints are working that way, so after finishing my Courses you will be able to create games without watching Tutorials non-stop.

I want to make YOUR Game Development journey as smooth as possible and to pass on my skills and knowledge to YOU who want to create high quality games, and to people who are struggling to find proper courses on YouTube or elsewhere, and anyone who wants to improve their programming skills with Unreal Engine Blueprints.

The first part of this course contains factually wrong information. I would suggest anyone who has either completed or is thinking about taking this course, as well as the instructor, to watch this official Unreal Engine talk on YouTube: "Myth-Busting “Best Practices” in Unreal Engine | Unreal Fest 2024", where they treat these topics with more nuance. I would have also liked to see some discussion about how to use the Profiling tool for proper optimization during runtime, rather than focusing only on checking the size maps. The second part of this course is good enough for a beginner who wants to move beyond very basic YouTube tutorials. Including a section on packing is also very valuable for beginners. The instructor is overall a good teacher. Unfortunately the promotion material for this course made it seem like it was targeted towards more intermediate/advanced users, which I don't think is the case. I cannot recommend it in general due to the incorrect information on section 1.

I Highly Recommend this course for anyone using Unreal Engine, i've been using it for about a year and not only did this man show that the practices I've been using were counter-productive for optimization he gave great alternatives at every point, not only that he shows the fundamentals that everyone looking to learn the engine should know with well-reasoned logic and even shows how the game handles the code after every iteration to show how the project should look at every stage in comparison to the course which many instructors often don't do. Honestly, I wish I used this course when I first became interested in Unreal Engine, this would have sped up my learning a lot faster. I'll definitely look forward to future courses from this guy!

This course clicked for me in a way most others do not. The relatively brief runtime (by Udemy gamedev course standards) packs a ton of information into a lot of hands-on examples. He does a great job explaining what everything does, and the blueprint nodes you start learning early on are used many times throughout the course to help you memorize what does what. I even had a few moments where I paused the video because I realized what method we were probably about to use (based on earlier videos) and, using the blueprints I had made as a reference, was able to work ahead. It only happened a few times, and when I did figure it out my prediction wasn't always 100% accurate. Still, was cool. Great course. I feel like I learned a lot, instead of just following a tutorial series where I can't apply any of it to a new project by the end.

The instructor is very well-versed in his knowledge of the material, and how to use the program. His methods can be used universally (throughout the software), and he is easy to follow. I do have a complaint however: he says to never use the Cast nodes, since they increase the memory usage of the blueprint. He does highlight this at the beginning of the course, and shows you the workaround that I am talking about. Also, the workaround does work, I use it for a vast majority of my blueprints. However, in my project, I have run into some situations where using his method to have the player character activate other blueprints causes bugs. I was developing a portal system where the player would enter a portal, do the level the portal is associated with, and upon completion of the level, the portal to the next level would open. Using his method, the portal would appear active (due to the portal looking different from the ones that were not active), but the game would say the portal was not active, even though it was. When I undid his method in the blueprint for the portal, and casted to the player, that fixed the problem. So, while I can say, with confidence, that his method does work, and it does reduce memory usage, there are some instances, that I have noticed, where casting is critical. A great class, nonetheless.

I don't normally review a course until I have finished, but the value I have received from less than half a course so far is immeasurable. The instructor is an incredible teacher and already used my new skills to optimize my game. I feel like this definitely helps level you up to a higher professional standard. The course is gold, and the teacher is amazing. I am very happy with the course (and only done less than half)

I highly enjoyed this course and recommend this to anyone who wants to improve their skills with Unreal blueprints. Going into this course I had absolutely no expectations except that the instructor introduced himself as a senior Unreal developer. I wanted to understand and learn best practices for Unreal blueprints in my projects after 1 year of learning Unreal Engine with some C++ as I feel this was a missing component in past courses I took. I was impressed by the way the information was presented in a slow, clear and easy to understand format. I have taken several courses from other instructors which the instructor did not explain very well and went extremely fast with complex subjects as if the student would understand completely get on the first try. Vlad understood during the explanation that it also takes practice and repetition to develop skills in Unreal and he explains this in many of the lessons. I look forward to further courses from this instructor. Thank you!

Great course! I really needed to understand the basics of blueprints and now it all makes sense. I highly recommend this course for people that are really serious about development, quality "code" and good practices. If you are brand new to unreal engine, it might be smarter to learn how to use the engine first before digging into blueprints but if you already have the basics and know how to navigate across the engine then you can totally follow this course. Highly recommended!

For me this Course is the best beginner Course here on Udemy. Everything about Blueprints is very well explained and easy to follow up. I can highly recommended to do this Course as your first Course here on Udemy. I had just one question and this Question was replyed withing 1 hour. @Vlatko for your first Course here you do a very well job. Please keep on it. Thank you, I have learned a lot and understand now the Basics of this.

Amazing course to take as a beginner but after a different tutorial to make a "game." He explains common nodes and their shortcomings that other tutorials do not. It really is a valuable course of "good to knows" that is essential in all games. Unlike other tutorials , everything is explained and often times alternatives are given. Must have course that focuses more on mechanics and efficient use of blueprints. This course is not a cookbook recipe to make a game with tons of assets. This course is perfect after doing "cookbook" game making.

By Marc Maniscalco on 6/25/2024

This was one of the best course on UE5 I have taken. What I loved is that you do not just tell us what to click and put for blueprints, but also show us why it is important to do things a certain way. Your examples are clear and make perfect sense. While I do see the benefit of courses that end with a finished game. I kind of like yours better where we are learning different patterns that we can apply in our own games. Great job and I look forward to more courses from you.
