Tons of valuable information in this class about writing your own plugin that extends the features of the block editor. I understand more about the inner workings of WordPress and the many possibilities for extending and customizing. I didn't give 5 stars because when I took the course, the latest version of WP was not always being demonstrated in the videos. Custom block registration has changed a bit. Tom has done a good job of explaining his code, but not going into extreme detail that would make the course a lot longer. I have some previous experience of custom WP theme and plugin development from other tutorials I also did a lot of reading (WP dev docs) and asking Copilot to explain things. Tom's guidance helps you keep going and not get lost in the process. I do highly recommend this course. I'm excited to try adding my own variations to the blocks and styles we created!

I can't recommend this course enough! The instructor has done an amazing job of breaking down WordPress Gutenberg Block Development using React JS and PHP. What I truly appreciate is how the course covers everything you need in one go, without any unnecessary fluff—just the essentials. The lessons are clear, concise, and straight to the point, making it easy to grasp complex concepts like React and WordPress block development. As someone who has been looking for a way to merge React with WordPress, this course was exactly what I needed. It not only helped me understand the technical aspects of block development, but it also taught me how to implement custom functionality using both React and PHP in a way that's practical and easy to follow. I would love to see the instructor create a similar course for WordPress theme development, especially focusing on custom comments and advanced WordPress development practices. It would be an incredible addition to this learning journey! Thanks again for such a thorough and well-structured course!

I'm a French freelance developer, and I find that the speaker expresses himself clearly. I don’t even need subtitles to understand him, despite my rather average level of English. Personally, I started the course with some knowledge of WordPress, WordPress PHP, and ReactJS, so I felt comfortable from the start. If I had to make one critique, it would be that, while the course seems to be designed even for those without prior ReactJS experience, some explanations feel quite obvious for those who are already familiar with it, like myself.

I have been a WordPress dev for a long time. I had always used what is now the "classic theme structure", but I needed to catch up on how to build blocks for Gutenberg. This course did a great job overall! I already had some React experience so this course made it easier to fill my knowledge gap between React and WordPress. The explanations are great and gave me a good baseline understanding of how blocks are set up - I imagine I will have to be ready to look up which @wordpress components to import for different scenarios. I only took issue with some file structure/naming but it's a minor issue.

Tom’s courses consistently align with my professional needs, which is remarkable. This course helped me get back to building custom blocks after a long break, and in my case it worked well, while I find it hard to get into the role of a complete beginner in the course. I believe the topic of static blocks shouldn’t be entirely skipped. Given that the block editor is continually evolving, there's great potential to introduce more modules, such as extending core blocks functionality, the Interactivity API, or the Block Bindings API. An advanced module covering complex data handling and the REST API would also be a valuable addition.

Love it. This is a perfect intermediate course. Tom's delivery is perfect. I'm running him at 1.25 speed and every word is crystal clear. Course structure, audio, editing, and code visibility are all perfect. There is no fluff or confusion, every moment is informative. The chosen project is pro level and useful in the real world. Exactly what I needed to get me belatedly caught up with custom Gutenberg blocks. Thank you!

That was a really good course, and I recommend it to everyone interested in WordPress. The instructor is highly proficient in the field and is readily available when you need assistance. I gained a lot of new knowledge, and, on top of everything, I created a plugin during the course that I can immediately use in my upcoming projects. I promptly purchased another course from WebDev Education because I trust the quality, and I know that Tom Philips's courses are practical, providing knowledge that can be applied right away.

So far I am really enjoying this course. I am someone with basic web dev knowledge but it is just a hobby. I was able to use this course to understanding the basics of block creation and follow along while creating my own block that has different functionality from the tutorial examples. Instructor explains things well and provides useful background knowledge that makes applying the techniques to other use cases easy.
