Brian Jackson
Hello,
My name is Brian Jackson. I'm the author of about a dozen books, the publisher of well over 100 books, and a Udemy instructor with over 40 courses.
This is my story...
1 Origins
I was born in the middle of the last century in Los Angeles, California. I graduated from Humboldt State University, surrounded by the redwoods of Northern California. After 14 years at Lockheed Missiles and Space as an IBM system programmer and 12 years at Cisco Systems as a test engineer, I retired at 48.
I instantly became bored.
2 Community College
To break the boredom, I enrolled at Columbia Community College to take writing, art, acting and statistics classes. I took 24 units over one year and received straight “A”s.
I was still bored.
3 Writing and Self-publishing
I began writing fiction and nonfiction books and self-publishing them on Amazon, Barnes & Noble and Smashwords in July 2011. Though I wrote and published several books, my self-publishing business didn’t take off until my wife joined me.
4 My Wife and Author, Melanie Jackson
Melanie Jackson, my wife, was an author publishing over two romance novels per year through her New York publisher, Dorchester Press. After publishing 24 novels with Dorchester, the company folded, and Melanie was without a publisher (she wanted to write cozy mysteries anyway).

Brian Jackson is a superb teacher who knows what he is talking about. I have been able to write my books in word and keep them all in there instead of having the chapters being saved all over my computer. In this course of editing he is showing me ways to edit my book so that I can clean it up before I format and publish on Amazon. I personally love his teachings and I believe everyone who wants to write should not hesitate in taking any of his courses. He fantastic!

The title of the course was misleading. The course was more on a few tips the presenter uses to do his own copy editing and proofreading. There was no actual teaching on editing and proofreading. This could easily have been a blog post.

Brian sounds very honest and did not disclose the errors he made when he first get into publishing. That’s a rewarding experience, though we see it negative but very revealing for students to learn from somebody’s mistake so it won’t happen to them. He also explains well and slow with a very moderate tone. I will copy his style and take his advices that I believe will benefit me and other students enrolled in his courses. Keep up the good work and God Bless!

Yes, this was a good match for me. My first goal is to do copy editing for professional writers. My next goal is to do my own professional writing. Spiral copy editing sounds like a better fit, for me, than waterfall copy editing. This course gives great methods for copy editing, and shows how to access great resources. Thank you!

Guy needs to self-edit the audio. It cuts out, he stutters, there are sentence fragments--pretty ironic for someone teaching people about editing... Totally discredits you as an editor and a teacher. Also, a lot of this course instructs on how to use Udemy...seriously? Keep to the content of the course..and even then, you need to flesh it out to give it more substance. Instructor is filling the course with fluff. I know it's a free course, but do the admins even quality control?

I thoroughly enjoyed the course. I am a professional editor but found that there was still a lot more that I had to learn, like the two editing processes. It helped me feel confident to go ahead with my editing style, rather than doing what people ask you to do. The instructor, Brian Jackson, explains what he promises with great clarity. Luckily, I got this course for free, and I cannot complain about the quality of this course. It offers what it promises! Beginners will find a lot out of this course.

The title for this course is Proofreading and Coy Editing Mastery. This couldn't be more misleading. Firstly, the author did not touch on proofreading in the slightest. Secondly, the very little bit of insight he shared (maybe 3 or points) was absolute beginner information. I mean, really beginner information, all of which is available for free online with simple searches (ie. grammarly intro, two types of of copy editing). The author is overly repetitive and seems more interested in promoting his and his wife's work than in teaching anything of value. This course was not worth my time (I even watched it at 1.5 speed due to the author's slow speech) and definitely not worth my dime. I hate leaving negative reviews, but this course earned it.

This course was really useful. Blasted through it in an hour, but it gave me some great, clear cut advice that I will apply to my Proof-Reading/ Copy-Editing skills going forwards. For the price of 'nothing' this was an absolute steal.

I'd like to volunteer to do voice over for the lecturer. The delivery was a little hesitant and unpracticed but then my career is is radio so maybe I'm too picky. Sections 1-3 are a bit tedious and lightweight. Skip straight to Section 4 for the meat. I picked up a few good tips and got interested enough to want to check out a few of his other courses. Glad I stuck around.

This was a quick course to learn to SELF-edit your own writing, saving the pricey expense of hiring a professional to do it for you. The techniques are simple and straightforward, and quite effective. It's vital to implement them for professional results. The instructor is easy to understand and easy to follow. I'm glad to have these tools collected in one place to remind me to use them all.
