Angular 2 & TypeScript Beginner Web Development (Udemy.com)

Just finished the course and I had a good time and feel like I learned a lot (while also feeling that I need to learn a lot more). Instructor: Jess is great, he's charismatic and fun to listen to and you can tell he does his best to explain things and keep it interesting. Some of the explanations I had a hard time following but that's probably a problem on my end. Content: - A section on getting started on GitHub/BitBucket would be nice. While I'm sure there are many advanced level people taking the course I think there are probably as many or more beginners taking it. Since we go through how to pull down code using BitBucket it would be nice to also have a video on how to set it up as well. - Solutions to exercises. I think doing the exercises that Jess puts in are important in solidifying the concepts in your mind. I'm especially like this: I won't understand it as its explained until I put it in and practice it many, many, many times. It would be nice however if Jess included another video with the solution to the exercise to show at least one way to accomplish it. While doing the exercises is important they can also be tough and sometimes folks need a little help as they learn, and I think having a separate video with some solutions to those tasks would be useful to them. Even a person who solved the challenge might benefit from it as they may learn of another way to go about solving the problem other than what they did. - There were one or two areas in need of an update due to changes that were made after the video was created but if you hit the discussion board other students (or Jess himself) have offered up solutions. I did not run into anything technically ground breaking that prevented me from completing the course so I consider the course still very up-to-date. - The DevSlopes courses can be a bit odd as they are all listed under Mark Price but taught by different folks (in this case Jess) and that can create some confusion on how to contact the instructor outside of the discussion board in the event you want to ask a question or discuss a topic. - I like that Jess used VS Code as I feel it's one of the easiest and nicest IDEs out there. Everything else needed for the course was easy to set up (except for Git/BitBucket, but again, I'm a beginner). - The example programs that we built look great and I feel are great building blocks to continue on with. I'm already thinking of ways I could use the bug tracker app in another useful way at my job (with some changes of course). Overall I had a great time and it was definitely worth my time and money. I'm taking this course as a software professional looking to advance my career and while I'm a long way off I feel like this was a decent start. It would be great if they ever decide to add more to the course however I understand if they don't do that. As long as the course is kept up-to-date that's probably about as much as one can reasonably ask. Thumbs up and excellent work to the instructor.

I'm so conflicted about this review because I really did enjoy much of this course and I think Jess is a swell and funny human being. At the same time, some sections are really long and slow and as he says himself, he does tend to ramble on a little bit. I'm completely new to Angular (never touched AngularJS) and Typescript, so I obviously learned a lot in this course. At the same time, I'm left kind of confused and disoriented. I don't feel like this course made me understand the inner workings of Angular. Especially when it comes to the architecture. I thought the course did a decent job of teaching data binding between components and templates but don't ask me to explain why, when and where to import or export which modules, components or services and how they all relate to each other. I really don't understand how all these modules/components/views/templates services connect with each other to form a cohesive application. As a result, I will be taking another course in the hopes that I can get a better understanding of all that. Although I did learn a great deal, I don't feel like this course taught me enough to confidently start developing my own app using Angular.

While is not a bad course, it falls short on giving real life application examples. i.e. : I had to research how to use the router for an app that is not just a list and a modal window (like the example given in the course), which I think should be a very basic (and easy) thing to explain in order to prepare us for more complex situations. Also, I bought this course because I read there were firebase usage examples, and I would have love to see the usage of other firebase components apart from just the database, like authentication and storage. You did great in all the other courses I watched, I think this one needs more work!

I loved this course, coming from another Angular 2 course it was great to learn how someone else does things! I feel Jess covered the key concepts very well in an easy way for students to follow. One thing I do have to mention though, when you subscribe to an event I'm 99.9% sure you need to also include NgDestroy which when the component is destroyed you need to unsubscribe from the original subscription, reason being it'll cause memory leaks within your application. Not sure if this was covered or maybe I've just forgotten, but subscribe was used a fair few times inside the Bugged Out Application, however NgDestroy was no where to be seen. Other than that I really enjoyed the course :) Also 1+ for pronouncing router correctly. 1+ for pronouncing data correctly. :P

This is an awesome course, I have enjoyed it all, everything worked for me, it's true I have a bit of experience on angular 2, I used this to build a proper angular 2 backend management system for my app. Somewhere in the course, Jess mention something about security (How to secure an Angular app using singleton) would have been great to have that cover at the end of the Bug App [Please have a look or at least give direction on how to implement security mostly good practice]). Excellent lecturer. I was surprised that this course was not taught by Mark initially. However, this lecturer teaches stuff so well. I like how he teaches you about background knowledge, how not to do stuff, as well as practical examples. I would take any course from him in the future. I saw someone complaining that he rambles on. To me, he does not ramble on, he reinforces concepts. Great experience

Good course and I was able to follow along. Sometimes it was a little hard to understand the instructor, due to accent, but no fault of the instructor so I didn't take out starts for that. However, I did find that some concepts were not explained properly. It would have been ideal to explain some concepts via a quick paper and pen type of drawing... nothing fancy, but graphs, pics, would help. Concepts such as Modules and components would have been good for this and would have solidified understanding of Angular2 concepts and terminologies. By the Bugs App, I was still grappling the concepts of Modules, components, directory structure, etc. Other than that, great course and the apps developed during the course was solid!

Jess is a good teacher who explains things very easy to understand , even a very beginner like me who have none of Angular experience. Hope he can produce more Angular 2 course in the future and keep a good work.

Good content, but long winded. Instructor repeats and rambles too much. Sorry Jess, but for example listen to lecture 90 section 5. Way to much rambling that only serves to make it completely unbearable. This cours could be, if revised, a very good 7h course. But the added 12.5h of rambling kills it.

Great job of explaining what is happening. Clear and easy to understand. Real world problems and solutions shown. A lot of talking in the first part but much of it was needed due to the amount of setup needed before anything could be ran. Two things I would love to see added to this amazing course. - User authentication for the bugged project. - Taking one of the class projects and preparing it for deployment in a production environment.
