What you will learn
- Build fully functional, robust and efficient applications with Spring Boot and the Kotlin programming language
Course Description
Kotlin is a programming language for the JVM (and also for Javascript and native code too) which was created by JetBrains - the company behind the IntelliJ IDE. It offers a number of enhancements over Java, including that it's less verbose, has immutable variables, and almost always gets rid of the NullPointerException. Compared to other JVM languages, such as Scala, Kotlin is an easy transition for Java developers, and the Kotlin team hope that it will eventually replace Java alltogether!
In this course we learn how to code in Kotlin, with a particular focus on how to build full stack Spring Boot applications with Kotlin.
This course is aimed at existing Spring Framework Java developers who want to upgrade their skills to use Kotlin instead of (or as well as) Java.

This is a very concise and tightly packed course that will help you understand the features of the Kotlin language and get a bit acquainted with Spring, at a sufficient level to further explore it using Java as an example. However, the course lacks updates; some aspects are now done differently and do not work as presented in the course. Additionally, there are not enough examples of integrating libraries with Gradle.

Overall a good course. I just thought you could have delved deeper into Kotlin - the "programming language" and explore a host of other capabilities and semantics the language has to offer. Perhaps could have cut down on the focus on JPA/ Hibernate to an extent- as that was never really the objective of this course. But overall a thumbs up! Thank you.

Very well thought out topics by the instructor. I liked how the earlier sections have quick introduction to Kotlin and leads into spring boot. Just what I needed. However, the video quality is lacking for some topics and can barely read through the screen. Great quick course overall though. Thank you!

Excellent! I learn a lot and enjoyed much. The instructor organized the lessons in a clever way and covering topics that give you the ability to undertake a Kotlin project. Incidentally, I hadn't to ask any question; not because the lessons be trivial or something like that, but because everything is neatly explained.

It is a good, decent course. Theoretically, I would like more exercises, projects, hands-on expericence (there are some practice parts), but as for udemy course standards - it is ok. It helped me with what I bought it for. An update would be nice, because I think that certain things are a bit outdated (plugins, the spring code). What should be noted is that not all of the course is dedicated to Spring Boot, there is a substantial part just on Kotlin, an intro. Spring Boot is 42 mins, plus later Hibernate and project, so check the contents to see if it suits you.

I really liked the introduction to Kotlin, the course was very well structured and the examples were well put and easy to follow. The only thing I would critique is the use of thymleaf in the Spring-section. I would have preferred the creation of a simple rest-controller that uses JSON as an exchange type rather than using backend templating. But in the end this is an create course to start with Kotlin!

The course gave me really goot insights in Kotlin basic as well as Springboot basic knowledge. What I was missing was things like: - Validation in Controller (or even better in the model) - Authentication - Role/Permission system Anyways, you have done a great job and that's why i will leave a 5-star rating. Well done, hope to see a course soon with the topic I mentioned. The course was totally worth it.

This is a very good Kotilin course. Recommended to everyone who is learning Kotlin. Though I expected a little bit more Spring Boot explanations. Also, the author is not very strict in spaces and formatting in general, but that is really minor.

I found Matt through his podcast (All Things Java). That of which I find both entertaining and informational. I recently graduated from a university with a bachelors in CS. The podcast has helped me understand the industry around Java and the hot Java topics. After gauging Matt and Richard's intelligence, I decided to look up the courses you offer and found Matt's teaching style to fit me perfectly. I've taken a few of Matt's other courses (Test driven development and web development under the hood) and the quality doesn't fall flat. Overall excellent instructors, and if you haven't listened to their podcast, give it go!

Since I keep being asked to rate before I'm done, fine. The course content seems respectable and I'm learning enough. However, the instructor didn't enable a font size that is better for screen capture, so it's nearly impossible to follow along in side-by-side windows because I have to make the video window full screen to read any of the code in the video. Next time use bigger font please.
