Course Description
Have you ever witnessed something unfair or unjust at work but didn't know what to do about it? You know you should do something but you don't know what to say, and worse, you might do the wrong thing and inadvertently hurt someone or yourself. It's understandable that you're uncertain of what to do. But today, turning away from injustice and discrimination in the workplace is not an option. Being an ally and speaking up against injustice can be scary, but it doesn't have to be.
In this course, with some courage and practice, you will learn how to build justice, equity, inclusion and diversity at work.
You will:
look inside yourself to understand your social identities and how they influence your interactions with others;
gain a toolkit to be a more effective leader and ally to underrepresented groups;
understand what the obstacles and challenges are to being an inclusive leader and ally;
learn to overcome those challenges productively while maintaining good relationships.
This course will even give you scripts and resources that you can use to be a better ally. I'll discuss the historical underpinnings of systemic oppression so you can see how it plays out in workplaces today. I'll share stories of clients I have worked with who have overcome their fears and become stronger advocates for colleagues who have been historically excluded from having a seat at the table.
The good news is you don't have to have people management responsibilities at work to be a leader: everyone can influence change, and everyone can learn to lead. You'll have to look at yourself, understand your privilege and identity, and then leverage those to help others and yourself. Being an inclusive leader is not only a good idea if you want to be a better friend, neighbor, colleague and human; it just makes good business sense. This course will teach you how to do just that.

In today's world it is I feel very insightful to be an Ally and to be a part and help build inclusive workplaces where you feel comfortable, and people come together as one where respect is mutual for all. I found this course to be very informative and appreciated the step-by-step guide and the resources that were provided. I have a much better understanding on what an Allyship is and of the challenges that we experience and face when building a Jedi culture & overcoming them and how to properly support underrepresented people. It makes a difference and it's empowering to have different approaches for different situation with different desired outcome. It makes me more mindful on what to say and on how it should be said as to not offend or hurt someone's feeling. Thank you for making this world a better place and for sharing your knowledge. I like to say, "Sharing is Caring" and you certainly have shown me that you do!

Really great instructor. I appreciated the practical application tools and examples provided. I really enjoyed the exercise around identifying the diversity in your circle. I would say that there was a lot of journaling which is not my preference but the content is good and delivered well.

The title of the course vs its content seems a backwards. I'm assuming that the course will at some point get to the courageous allyship component. While I do understand that in order to be a courageous ally, one needs to first understand themselves and the difference they bring to the table, including those experiences that were hurtful.

It's solid for a general overview, but it restricts things to an office setting. While no scenario is perfect, and some characters will be more aggressive than others, the course at least brings forward small, subtle adjustments that the average person can attempt to start the motion of possible change.

Dr. Nalkur was relatable, clear, gave excellent real life examples, gave understandable explanations for those who may be new to the area.... I cannot say enough good things about this course. I was asked to review it for possible inclusion in our organization's DEI Journey for all colleagues and, though I am not the decision maker, I am recommending they consider using it. Excellent. Can't wait to see what else Dr. Nalkur has on Udemy and beyond.

Overall, I have a foundational awareness of the content, but the presenter does an effective job of giving short, but informative explanations and details. They are also engaging and welcoming, something that can be difficult to come across in a virtual setting.

Good course. Unless one is Native American and are still alive they are the only full blood of a culture. Whether people want to realize it or not, each and everyone of us are all mixed with different cultures and some don't even know that they are cultures that they themselves do not like, because of families deepest and darkest secrets. I can remember Home Economics class back in the day and we were going around the room telling our classmates what nationality we were and our cultural foods. When it came to my turn, I told the class I was Hispanic. My father was Puerto Rican. My mother was Italian, Irish and French Canadian. We were told in class we had to claim what our father's were. So one of my classmates said that I could not be Puerto Rican because all the Puerto Ricans he knew were black and dark skin. When I got home and my mother asked how my day was I told what happened in class. She laughed. She said when you go back to school the next day, you tell that young man that your mother drank a bottle of bleach before given birth to me. The class was laughing. The old statement growing up in my time was never judge a book by its cover. That is so true. You can't go by last names anymore because they may not appear as what used to be a typical image of that culture. So many people today, have been adopted, or have dropped a parent's name or are married. Everyone is different and unique. Sad to say, but I think haters of any particular culture should really take a DNA test. They would truly be shocked to learn what they are made up of. We all have so much to learn about each other.
