Course Description

Hi there, aspiring Figma enthusiast! Are you ready to embark on an exhilarating journey with me, Dan Scott, as we unlock the full potential of our Figma skills in the dazzling realm of UX/UI Design using Figma Advanced?

Course length: 9+ hours.

We’re not just moving boxes around here - you’re actually going to build something. In this course, you’ll get your own project brief and persona, and by the end, you’ll have a complete app ready to drop straight into your portfolio.

We’ll kick things off by using AI inside Figma to move fast — the kind of efficiency that saves you hours, not minutes. Then we’ll dive deep into Auto Layout and constraints, the tools that separate amateurs from pros. You’ll learn how to make responsive pages that flex, adapt, and update automatically, no matter the screen or content.

Next, you’ll master components and variables so solid they’re almost impossible to break. We’ll add visual punch with effects, typography, and micro-animations that give your designs instant polish and impact. You’ll also learn workflow hacks to manage your assets, grids, and styles like a seasoned professional, and I’ll even show you a few hardware setups that make you faster (and make you look good while you’re at it).

Once you’ve got the basics locked in, we’ll take things further. You’ll become a variant boss, building light and dark modes, compact and comfortable layouts, all with a single click. We’ll explore advanced animation, masking, and video techniques, the kind of creative power most designers don’t even realize Figma can deliver.

You’ll also learn to prototype faster, test smarter, and make things that feel real. We’ll cover accessibility, collaboration, and developer handoff using Dev Mode, refactoring, and shared team libraries so you can work seamlessly across projects and teams.

As you journey through this course, you'll acquire the skills wielded by UX professionals, gaining a profound understanding of the UX Design industry. From concept to a highly polished finish, you'll confidently manage your own UX projects ideal for your portfolio.

Throughout the course, I'll assign assignments and projects that nurture your skills and empower you to create your very own unique UX design masterpiece for your portfolio. Don’t worry if this all seems overwhelmingly advanced right now, because the BYOL crew stands ready to support and guide you, ensuring your questions get answered.

Bottom line, you’re not just learning Figma. You’re building a complete, professional-grade design system that looks elite and works flawlessly. Let’s go.

Sharing is who I am, and teaching is where I am at my best, because I've been on both sides of that equation, and getting to deliver useful training is my meaningful way to be a part of the creative community.

I've spent a long time watching others learn, and teach, to refine how I work with you to be efficient, useful and, most importantly, memorable. I want you to carry what I've shown you into a bright future.

I have a wife (a lovely Irish girl) and kids. I have lived and worked in many places (as Kiwis tend to do) – but most of my 14+ years of creating and teaching has had one overriding theme: bringing others along for the ride as we all try to change the world with our stories, our labours of love and our art.

I'm a certified Adobe instructor (ACI) in Ireland. I'm also an Adobe Certified Expert (ACE) and have completed the Adobe Certified Associate training (ACA). And I don't just do Adobe. Remember, media is a very broad term – digital blew out the borders, so we are all constantly learning.

I've been teaching for 14+ years. I come from being a media designer and content creator – so I understand exactly where you're at now. I've been there. I love this stuff. Print, digital publishing, web and video. I can see how it all connects. And I can see how we can share those connections.

This great and the instructor is ell versed and explains thoroughly as he goes. I have experienced some insructors in the past who click around and you have rewatch many times to figure out what they did, but this instructor is pre panned and obviously has a more detailed plan then just a high-level sylabus.

This course has been an amazing learning experience. The lessons are well structured, easy to follow, and very practical. I started with little experience, but by the end of the course I was able to design and prototype a complete mobile application in Figma, including animations, Auto Layout, components, variants, and interactive user flows. What I appreciated most was that the course encouraged me to think through design problems instead of simply copying along. It helped me become faster at finding solutions and gave me the confidence to tackle more complex UI/UX projects. I highly recommend this course to anyone who wants to build a strong foundation in Figma and UI/UX design. Thank you for creating such a valuable learning experience!

This author also shows his genuine personality, in which we are able to relate to his teaching. Thank you! July 26 - Im still loving this course because I am quite advance but I am still learning a lot of things. Especially the workflow and best practices. Also this enables me to explore untouched features that I didn't know exist. Thanks for a fun way of teaching us.

It was a good match for me. My team and I joined the course two months ago to dive in-depth into what Figma has to offer, and it was so exciting to work on each assignment at the end of each chapter and share them with each other. A nice competition to have alongside the learning. Also, the confidence boost we got after completion is a great feeling in itself. 4 stars for the course + 1 for kitten!

It's very good. Easy to understand. I really needed upscale my Figma skills. This is one to go for. There are many basic courses out there teaches you intro and basics but, learning this it has help me to organize my design files well and also helped me to increase my design speed overall. Also it would be great if you can make advance video for UX as well. Thank you.

The course was well-structured and the assignments were great for practice. Having taken the beginner course before, this was a perfect follow-up. I also appreciated getting an overview of Figma’s paid features—it was great to see what’s possible and what I’m currently missing. Thank you, Dan, for this awesome course!

Great course but felt a bit rushed. I was half way through the course originally when it got updated and all previous progress was lost. This updated version focused a lot on the new AI elements in Figma, which is fine and understandable, but it left people like my self not being able to actually do a substantial amount of the course in practice.

What a great course! Personally, I learned a lot of new Figma tips and tricks through this course. The teaching method is fun and engaging, which is perfect for me. It's really easy to follow along, and the course structure is not overwhelming. From the beginning to the end, I didn't lose any motivation to finish this course. The best part is that I can apply what I learned through mini projects. This is a great approach for this kind of course. I recommend everyone who is looking to learn advanced Figma tips and tricks. You won't regret it.

I have learned so much from this course! What I appreciate most is how Dan focuses on all the tools and tricks that are most used in a designer's daily work. I like the bite size videos, and the class assignments that mimic real life design challenges. This course has made me a lot more confident in my design chops. Thank you Dan for making it so fun and packed with knowledge!

By Simone Festugato on 3/11/2026

The teacher is great and has passion in teaching. I would only recommend to the teacher to do a table of all of the shortcuts on the keyboard, because there are many and it is hard to find them when needed. Most of the advanced features could be self explored without the course. To be honest, i was expecting more advanced features. Maybe I was expecting too much because Figma is notorious for its simple interface.
