Course Description

The idea of UX, or User Experience, is not new but continues to be a sore point for designers and end users. For those who can figure it out, it pays well more than graphic design alone. We've got the UX design training experience that's going to open a whole new world, and better-paying work!
UX design is creating products, most commonly apps and websites, that are easy to use, please the end user and look great. It's understanding what the target user needs and how they get what they want. It's how they interact with the information and how they navigate your design. The reason there's so much demand for UX designers is that not a lot of graphic designers truly understand what's involved. It's more than slick graphics!
At BYOL, we've got years of design experience and an equally impressive number of years teaching design to real world standards. We know what UX and UI design for professional grade work require, and we know how to give you the best training and information to build you a lifelong foundation.Who this course is for:
  • This course is for anyone interested in becoming a UX Designer.
  • This course is especially beneficial to people who already have Graphic or Web Design skills.
  • This course is for designers who want to earn double as a senior UX designer.

Sharing is who I am, and teaching is where I am at my best, because I've been on both sides of that equation, and getting to deliver useful training is my meaningful way to be a part of the creative community.
I've spent a long time watching others learn, and teach, to refine how I work with you to be efficient, useful and, most importantly, memorable. I want you to carry what I've shown you into a bright future.
I have a wife (a lovely Irish girl) and kids. I have lived and worked in many places (as Kiwis tend to do) but most of my 14+ years of creating and teaching has had one overriding theme: bringing others along for the ride as we all try to change the world with our stories, our labours of love and our art.
I'm a certified Adobe instructor (ACI) in Ireland. I'm also an Adobe Certified Expert (ACE) and have completed the Adobe Certified Associate training (ACA). And I don't just do Adobe. Remember, media is a very broad term digital blew out the borders, so we are all constantly learning.
I've been teaching for 14+ years. I come from being a media designer and content creator so I understand exactly where you're at now. I've been there. I love this stuff. Print, digital publishing, web and video. I can see how it all connects. And I can see how we can share those connections.
I built Bring Your Own Laptop in Ireland, New Zealand, Australia & online. I have a great team working with me to keep BYOL at the top of Adobe and digital media training. I u

Great course! Dan is very knowledgeable. I've purchased some of his other courses (Illustrator intro and advanced, Photoshop advanced and XD) because of his ability to explain things and make the courses challenging and fun. Perhaps this course would benefit by showing more in depth examples, but overall it is a great course for anyone making the transition from graphic / web design to UX. Thanks Dan!

A brief course and to the point. As such I enjoyed learning from this course. A little more explanation on the reporting of User testing would've been preferable such as real examples of reports from user testing. Other than that, this has helped me greatly.

Dan was engaging, down to earth and professional at the same time. This course seemed like the best option before I went right into the hands on UX learning because Im vaguely familiar with the UX/UI profession, but didnt quite understand the depth of it. We shall see! Overall, it was worth the money to have a more inside look at UX/UI design before blindly diving into the hands on learning. Thanks Dan! :-)

Instead of boring theory, you did a good job brief through the key point topics by topics. Now proceeding to your UX design using Adobe XD course.

I really liked the course, but I think it lacks some more visual, some schemes or explain a complete work from 0 to end. The main details do not need the entire project. Daniel is GREAT, explaining! I recommend it.

It was very informative. My only concern is that I wish he slowed down and enunciated a bit but I take it he's only got a limited number of time. The transcripts help a bit, but they are incorrect as he's slurring some of this words and even as a Native English speaker, I've having trouble understanding what he said sometimes.

The course instructor tried to give an overall idea from start to finish of conducting UX process. It would be better if you could add some quiz so that more attention can be ensured. BTW thanks for your initiative.

it is great, english is my second language but i can understand your course well< and i gain a lot of basic ux knowledge, it is very helpful for since i studied ux by myself, great job Dan!

I am a graphic designer looking to learn more about UX/UI Design and I thought this was a great introduction to the field. Im looking forward to learning more!

I like the course overall - however, as a beginner in UX Design, I had to google most of the terms and vocabs that have been used during the class. I think this is a great course for those who have a design background.

Hi Daniel,The course was good, but I'm not a native English speaker, and that was the problem I faced during the whole course. The subtitles weren't matching with the audio, so I had to rewind quite a number of times to understand what is happening. 2 stars lost here. Also, I came from your XD course, and expected the integration of both these courses, to use that knowledge and this knowledg, maybe because this course is shot 3-4 years back, that's why. 1 star lost here.I have started my own designing studio of UI after learning it from your XD - UI course. This particular course was centrally based on the learners who are working in a group already, I expected that, but along with the knowledge of doing all the stuff alone.I hope that you update the course with the latest information.Best,Satvik(It is really fun learning from your courses! ?)

Thanks DWS!This was a great intro course with a lot of great suggestions for how to conduct the different stages of the UX process.I especially liked accumulating external/web resources for all of the topics here. I suspect it's going to be an excellent backbone for the Xd course which I expect will be more expansive. Thanks again! On to Xd!
