Course Description
Some of the most important outcomes at work are shaped by conversations.
A conversation can build trust or weaken it. It can clarify expectations or create confusion. It can help someone grow, resolve a problem, strengthen a relationship, or leave both people frustrated.
Yet workplace communication is often treated as something we should simply know how to do.
This course gives you practical communication skills for having more effective conversations at work. You’ll learn how to prepare for important interactions, listen more intentionally, ask better questions, communicate your message clearly, give and receive feedback, and create stronger working relationships.
You’ll explore how to move beyond simply waiting for your turn to speak and become more curious about what the other person is thinking, hearing, and needing. You’ll also learn how assumptions, emotions, and communication habits can get in the way of productive conversations.
Throughout the course, you’ll learn how to:
• Communicate more clearly in everyday workplace conversations
• Listen actively and demonstrate that you have heard the other person
• Ask questions that uncover useful information
• Clarify expectations and reduce misunderstandings
• Give feedback more effectively
• Receive feedback without becoming immediately defensive
• Build trust through communication
• Prepare for conversations that feel uncomfortable
• Navigate disagreement and workplace conflict
• Adapt your communication to different people and situations
• Strengthen professional relationships through better conversations
These skills are useful whether you are communicating with a manager, employee, colleague, client, or senior leader.
You do not need to become the perfect communicator. You need to become better prepared for the conversations that matter.
By the end of this course, you’ll have practical tools you can use to communicate with greater clarity and confidence, strengthen workplace relationships, and create better results through the conversations you have every day.

I found this course extremely valuable. It provides practical tools and techniques for conducting effective conversations, delivering feedback, and engaging team members in a constructive way. One of the aspects I appreciated most was the focus on creating an environment of mutual collaboration, active listening, and psychological safety. The course demonstrates how leaders can address challenging situations while maintaining respect, empathy, and accountability. The scenarios and examples were realistic and easy to apply in the workplace, helping me better understand how to build trust, strengthen relationships, and support employee development. I believe the skills covered in this course are essential for anyone looking to become a more effective leader and build high-performing teams. Overall, it was an excellent learning experience, and I would highly recommend it to professionals who want to improve their leadership, communication, and people development skills.

I think that this is a sort of skill no class could ever really capture, but this class has done its best, and the instructor is clearly both knowledgeable and experienced in this field. Possible room for improvement may be discussing the messy realities of workplace life (you may have internalized these skills, but have your teammates and managers?)

Thank you for an incredibly insightful course! The clear explanations and practical tips greatly enhanced my understanding of effective communication. I learned numerous strategies that I’m excited to apply. Highly recommend!

I thoroughly enjoyed the course, especially the engaging conversations at work that stemmed from it. One particular discussion was truly eye-opening and helped me better understand and apply the 3V technique—Visual, Vocal, and Verbal communication. This has already made a noticeable difference in how I communicate with colleagues and present myself professionally. Thank you for such a practical and insightful learning experience.

I thought I knew how to deal with this type of situation, but now I see that there are better ways to do it. I will take into account the advice to improve communication and solve situations with my team.

Firstly, I don't want to discourage the instructor or her knowledge. She is a very good speaker and know all the facts considering a communication skills. At the start of my career, I attended a lot of soft skills training like this but they were good. The reason was that they were not theoretical rather practical. The way of teaching this course is not at all good. It only talks about things in a very theoretical manner but it should be more engaging if the instructor would have designed some activities or scenarios based learning. I think that will be more beneficial. No offense to the instructor but this what I felt.

It's helped to reaffirm my existing skills plus I really liked the 3 V's as I'd not heard it put in that perspective. Navigate Conflict and Tricky Conversations is very useful and gives other ways to approach situations without fear.

I've already (in the first quarter of the course) realized that I have communication behaviors that create distance between my self and my coworkers. At the halfway point of the course, I'm seeing how I could actually implement the excellent suggestions on offer.

Great and really useful knowledge shared as conversation is the key to success. Deb, let me paraphrase you "Deb, I wish you have spoken a littlebit slower because I didn't catch up everything, although it was very interesting but kind of difficult for me as I'm not a native English speaker and there were no subtitles in other language than English available" ;-)

Yes. This course is a good match for me because I can already see ways I can try to relate better to young parents enrolling a child into school for the first time. The need to feel welcome at our school and confident that their child will be cared for, nurtured and encouraged.
