Course Description
Welcome to my iOS 13 Course! If you're looking for a course that is fun and gets straight to the point, then this is the course for you. Apple released a TON of new stuff for developers at WWDC and this course will take you though everything you need to make awesome iOS 13 apps.
Other mega courses on Udemy offer 40+ hours of video content, but I wanted to create a course that was more manageable and didn't include any fluff. In each video I dive straight into the topic, and don't waste your time going over things that you don't really need. I only focus on the essentials, and I give you hands-on practice so that you can easily master the things we are learning!
This course is designed to be taken over a two week period, with 1-2 hours dedicated to learning each day. This course is easy to commit to because you won't get overwhelmed with a mountain of content, and you don't need to quit your day job to learn how to code!
Over the past four years I've taught over 140,000 people how to code, and I am a self-taught programmer so I know what it feels like to start from scratch. I care about your learning, but even more importantly... I care about you! I know your time is valuable, so I promise not to waste it.
iOS 13 Topics we cover include:
SwiftUI
Dark Mode
Sign in with Apple
Swift Package Manager
SF Symbols

Hi! I'm Nick, and I love to code. About five years ago I decided that I wanted to learn to code, but I had limited access to programming resources, and I was getting frustrated with all of the YouTube videos and online tutorials out there. I experimented, struggled, and definitely failed a lot, but I finally got the hang of it, so I decided that I wanted to change the way that people learned to code, and I started teaching. My experience as an online student has directly influenced my teaching style, because I know what it is like to be in your shoes.
When
Apple announced their new programming language, Swift, in 2014, I made my big online teaching debut and created the
internet's first Swift course. Since that time, I have
become a full-time online instructor and I now have courses not only in Swift,
but also in iOS, Android, Django, Kotlin, Python, HTML, Blockchain, etc. I have also created five iOS apps from scratch that are currently live in the App Store and are being used by thousands of users worldwide.
I love sharing my excitement for coding with my students, and I try to make learning as fun and as easy as possible. Thanks for being part of my coding community!

Great course and great instructor. I completed the iOS 13 course and I'm now moving on to Nick's iOS 14 and SwiftUI 2.0 courses. Swift syntax and be quite lengthy and some of the videos I had to watch several times but Nick explains it very well and over time the different concepts begin to fall into place which deepened my understanding.

This was my second course with Udemy on AppDev and it was a so much better for a person new to application development. Breaking it into small apps to show different skills and building those into new apps helps reinforce those skills. The only piece I found difficult was when assigned a task I would inevitably use different names for variables/classes/etc. than the instructor. As you continue to develop the app it can get complicated trying to remember your names and the instructors as there can be overlaps. I'm not sure how to prevent that and continue to use the assignments to push you to build your skills. That said, this is a great class I'd recommend for someone who wants to learn iPhone app development.

I am like three videos into the course and I can already tell you that the material is golden. The instructor is very engaging, humorous, and charismatic; most importantly, the instructor is great at stepping through foundational concepts on using XCode and Swift. I will update the review if, by some miracle, I am disappointed.

Yes, great content and very engaging teacher. I found that as the course moved from Swift principles in playgrounds to working with iOS development in projects there was a big step up that was worrying. However I found I was able to go over the videos multiple times without fear to help me pick it up due to the energetic and supportive nature of the videos.

This is a really good introductory course to iOS/Swift application development. The apps that you build showcase many of the basic features required for apps to work. This is not a heavy theory course, which is why I call this an introductory course. It gets you started going in the right direction. Additionally, Nick puts a great deal of effort in when people have questions. Often, the solution is to zip up the project and send it; you get back a nice video explaining the problem as he explores your code , etc. It's a great method and shows that he really cares.

I think Nick does an excellent job!!! His presentations sometimes move a bit quickly, but it's easy enough to review and replay when needed. He does an excellent job of organizing the material into a very well planned logical progression. His presentations are also very easy to listen to as he avoids a lot of "ah's, em's and other potentially distracting verbiages. I have a technical background and have programmed in Basic, Fortran, C, C++, Assembly, but it has been many years since I've dabbled in programming. Really enjoying this course and appreciate the effort and time Nick put into creating it. Really well done! Major Kudo's! -B. WIlson

I wanted to get some quick information to understand how I could turn some of demo tools into an iOS App, and this course definitely achieved those goals. I can now create apps. The best thing about this course is Nick's enthusiasm and the hands on examples. My only improvements would be to have the icons, and dark mode earlier in the course. I also wasn't really interested in Uploading App and ASO sections (yet) so it would have been better to have been able to complete the course without those sections.

When I finished the course I thought it was great! but now I realized that it lacks on more content like Scroll View, Stack view, Collection Views. I wish he had taught those concepts, because now I'm struggling with that, and you think that by paying for a course you would learn those concepts. Now I regret buying the course, because I could have bought a course for the same price but that would teach me more.

Hi Nick, Just want to say that this course is fabulous! Based on what I have learned, I was able to get an app approved in the App Store. As you pointed out, it took multiple tries. My first shot was rejected in just a couple of hours. The review said that it was just an ordinary informational app which could easily be replaced by a user just browsing the Internet for YouTube videos. I was extremely disappointed, but it made me more determined to come up with a workable solution. So I changed everything, and converted the app into an interactive quiz, and added a few engaging features (drag-and-drop, text-to-speech, sound effects, etc.) I also fetched all of the content from a local json swift file so that no Internet connection was required. Later I will add Core Data functionality. BTW, the app is entitled: Women in Black History Quiz. Again, great job with teaching and encouraging us to just submit the app, and not procrastinate. If you get a chance to download the app I would certainly appreciate any comments or suggestions you or my classmates might have. Thanks again for a great course. Charlie

This was a good match from the standpoint of demonstrating developing "basic" apps using Xcode 11 IDE Framework. Being a career IT person, I would like to see a different course that eliminated all the "basic coding" things. I'd like to see another version of the course that was for "programmers who want to learn IOS Development". The parts about creating variables, what they are, what's an if statement, etc.. were a waste on me. My other issue I've already commented on, is about the push to get an app in the App Store. It needs to be more than just one of the apps created in this course - Apple will reject any of these. Create a "tutorial" on what a "good app" is, so that if / when we create one, it will have a snowballs chance of being accepted. Lastly, I liked the "pace". Being a video course, you can always pause / rewind as necessary. I saw comments about being too fast, but, I don't agree with them. Good pace.
