Our take
Based on the ratings of 2,953 students, a sample of their written reviews and the syllabus, as the course stood in February 2026. No course pays to be reviewed.
This is a short, lecture-led course on why stories persuade better than raw data. It is aimed at managers, trainers and anyone who has to sell an idea to a team. It runs about 1.6 hours across 26 lectures in six sections, built around a four-step model, with sections on engaging, influencing and making an impact, then three common story formats and a practice exercise. Sivakami S, a former business leader who now teaches leadership psychology, draws on research from psychology and neuroscience. About 9,000 students have enrolled.
Reviewers like the clear, logical explanations and the science of what stories do to listeners. One trainer called it perfect for engaging learners emotionally, and another said it made them notice things they already know but do not use on purpose. The complaints are small but real. One reviewer found it very simple with nothing new, another wanted more help actually improving their own storytelling, and a third had to get used to the accent. Of roughly 2,950 ratings, most are four or five stars, with 28 one-star and 54 two-star scores.
At under two hours, it works as a quick primer, not a storytelling workshop. The syllabus shows one quiz and a practice exercise, so there is little feedback on individual stories. It was last updated in February 2026, so it is not stale. Take it for the why plus a framework to use in your next presentation. Look elsewhere if you want to build and polish stories with coaching.
Pros
- Clear, logical explanation of why stories stick, backed by research
- A four-step model plus three story formats gives a usable framework
- Short at about 1.6 hours, easy to finish in a sitting or two
- One trainer found it useful for engaging learners emotionally
Cons
- One reviewer found it too simple, with nothing new
- Light on practice: one quiz and one exercise, so skills barely get tested
- One reviewer needed time to get used to the presenter's accent
This was a nice course on storytelling explaining the overall scientific logic of impact that storytelling creates and also on various techniques that can be used while delivering an impactful story.
All Levels fits, with no prerequisites, though experienced presenters may find it basic.

Course Description
Stories are powerful.
For millions of years, humans have relied on stories, fables, parables, and other narratives, to engage others, and to share experiences and emotions ! From personal experience, we all know that it’s far easier to remember details from a story, than to remember standalone facts and details that are not part of a narrative. And that is what the research tells us too … that narratives, and stories, are far more influential, and persuasive than just stating the facts, or providing the data.
This Course will provide a Business Communication 4-Step Model, using Narratives and StoryTelling, based on Science and Research. It will explain effective communication using narratives, in order to be more impactful, and effective.
As a Leader, you can have a much bigger impact, and more influence, if your communication involves more narratives and storytelling. Weaving your vision, mission, objectives, arguments etc. into a story line, with a message, or lessons, can have a far more powerful impact, rather than presenting it as a business case, or just presenting the data, evidence, facts and arguments.
Using powerful narratives can alter brain chemistry, which can, in turn, affect human behaviour. Practically, as Leaders or Managers, or trainers and public speakers, you often need to use non-fictional narratives to engage and inspire. This Course will help you immensely there !

This is PERFECT for me :-) Being a trainer, knowing how to engage my listeners emotionally with learning, will not only make them feel good chemically and psychologically, but they can transfer that energy into member experiences. That is SO exciting!

As much as I love the science behind things, so far this has not been an effective tool for improving storytelling for impactful business communication. Hopefully we get on track soon in the next lessons.
